RE: MU Things I Love
@mietze Even on the grand scheme of things, I don't believe it is silly at all. Accomplishments, whether personal or shared with others, have a significant positive impact on yourself and those you share it with. Even if society doesn't put a monetary value on said accomplishment, not everything that is good for you health-wise can be measured by a monetary gain or a gain that is traditionally judged as useful or not. Mental health and mental stamina is incredibly important to one's well being, especially now, and accomplishments like this certainly helps reinforce this for you and those that see it and feel good about it as well. So finding the free time to do this on top of the important stuff that is swirling around in everyone's lives is awesome! Especially with some of the crafted stuff I've seen in Arx since joining, the artwork on items is like whoa.

@A-B said in Tips for not wearing out your welcome:
@Tinuviel - We've moved on from that, I'm not talking to the Spirit Lake mods, I'm trying to get advice from people about whether there's any way to make it less likely to happen over and over again in other things. Admittedly the original incident keeps coming up as an example.
From what you are experiencing, unfortunately the only way you could find a remedy is professional help. You said you didn't want it but with the issues you are facing, it is help you need. If you unable to recognize when you're running your mouth and becoming unwelcome, there is nothing anyone else besides a trained professional to help you.

I am hitting the limits to bursting. I'm stressed out, and depressed and keep bursting into tears. And I feel trapped.
Times are very tough right now with things pushing at you from many different directions but if possible, try to take a step back. Breathing exercises and meditation could help alleviate some that stress and pressure. Also remember that you have your friends and family, talk to them and cherish them, know that they are what is important in life. This will pass and there are others that can help you as it does.

RE: KDraygo's Playlist
One more update, taking my first foray into the gigantic game called Arx. Also my first attempt at playing a roster'd character. Good luck me.

RE: General Video Game Thread
@Three-Eyed-Crow The reason why the ending seemed much, much worse than it was for me was because the rest of the game, 1, 2 and 3, was done so well so our expectations was already high. The ending was like, wtf. Like they just rushed it and wanted to push it out the door, the minute decisions they let you make throughout the game felt meaningless.

@silverfox That's awesome! The kids are lucky to have you as their teacher.

RE: The Work Thread
@gryphter Definitely wear a mask and just try to social distance at work if possible, you don't need the N95s as regular masks are there to keep your vapor droplets from spraying far if you happen to cough or sneeze, and it also helps prevent you from touching your own mouth or nose. HR won't do anything unless there is a threat that there could be a potential lawsuit against the company, they're there to protect the company, not the people. As for your wife, her actual doctor is definitely correct, avoid the infection zone that is the hospital as much as possible. It sucks that people are being forced to choose between health safety and financial safety.

RE: The Work Thread
@silverfox That is very unfortunate and knowing most school systems, they definitely won't have enough budget to have everything each teacher needs when they finally reopen again. That or they won't agree on what 'needs' are for their teachers.

RE: The Work Thread
@silverfox Or you can also put that money aside for the classroom once school starts up again.

RE: Post-Covid 19 world
I see two major changes happening as a result of this pandemic and how people have been forced to react to it.
One is that businesses that can continue to run right now with their employees working from home will actually start adopting that model if they do not see too much of a drop in production from being forced to make that change. This would actually save the company money in the long run and helps the environment with less people driving.
The second is that workers that are part of the industries that have been forced to let people go like the service industry and others where they end up being easily replaced or removed will try to unionize more than they are now. At least that is something they should focus on for the benefit of their own future and financial security.
UBI is a hard pill to swallow because people in the USA are still spooked by the scary word, Socialism. Until the country stops being an oligarch, not much on that side will change. Hell, those with money were trying to find a way to get people to go back to work before the pandemic peaked because they were losing money, it took science and medical experts to smack them upside the head with facts before the smarter decision was made. Plus, one big reason I see why the government was so slow on making sure tests are available is because if you don't test, you don't need to report real numbers. That way, they can delay the stock market crash as much as possible.
Society will eventually get back to normal once the vaccine comes out but question is, how many people will be able to recover and how badly would they have suffered in the meantime.

RE: PB 'realism'
Back when I use to RP, I actually transitioned from real life PBs to artwork PBs. There were two main reasons why I had decided to make the change. One, I didn't want the actor I picked as my PB to influence my character style or RP style, I get the feeling that I may unintentionally have my character act or react how the actor would in a recent popular movie. The second reason is linked to my first, I don't want other people who RP'd with me to unintentionally form an unintended image of my character due to how they recall memories from movies they watched where my PBs.
To me, artistic works are more free form and open ended to interpretation, less of a chance to draw the focus away from your character to the actor or actress playing the character. Also, I personally feel that anime characters are just fine as long as they properly portray the character in an artistic manner, feel free the fight me on this. Weebs rise up!

RE: Things I've Learned Running Horror Mu
Horror MU definite has been one of the games I've had the most fun in. Sadly RL kidnapped me before the previous story started and has yet to ransom me away. The issues that @Botulism laid out is something I have seen in my lengthy years of RPing and a lot of it seems to have been addressed in a positive manner with how she created and manages her game. Very unique and refreshing style for sure.

@Pandora For Christmas, my sister bought me a mug that says, "Don't touch me, peasant." on it, it's the mug I use at work now.

I just want to voice my appreciation for Paradox. Crusader Kings II came out in 2012 and here they are, 7 years later still producing interesting and unique content for a game that is not an MMO.
I'm sure other studios have done it but today, this just stood out to me as I was going over my Steam libraries.
From what I've heard, that is actually Paradox's business model. Instead of making sequels like other games, they opt for making large updates and DLCs.
