RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@auspice HR is not there to help you or be on your side. HR is only there to make sure the company will not get hit with a lawsuit and if they do, win. They are 100% on the company's side and if they feel you are no threat, they won't give you the time of day.

RE: MU Things I Love
@kanye-qwest This hobby would be so much better and fun if this happened more often, and not just on a staff level! It's so much easier to clear issues up before they are allowed to fester and grow into some mutated monster where bridges end up having to be burned to exorcise it.

At this rate we will need an apology section in this forum.
Just name that category: Canada.

RE: Paragraphs, large scenes and visibility
I've had that issue as well, which is why I try not to join large scenes. When I do and there is a lot of interaction, I try to start typing out my pose as others pose if I have to respond to it. Downside is sometimes my poses end up being much longer than I prefer but it's hard for me to find stuff to cut.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@aria Yeah, I fall into that latter department when it comes to dress code at the company. I always wear button up shirts and slacks, sometimes a suit jacket if an important meeting is scheduled. The only difference between business casual in the summer and regular dress in the winter is whether we have to wear a tie or not. Though over the years, I've preferred this requirement.

RE: Star Wars Stand Alone - Staff Sought
Definitely sounds like a very intriguing concept, and I'm also in the camp that heavily favors non-FC and a small, backwater outer-rim type system. This makes it so that Imperials can't just blow in with a giant fleet of ISDs to wipe everything out because things got rough or they have a heavy tech/military hardware advantage that makes everything hard to do. I also feel that FCs draw too much away from the players, who should be the focus when creating stories.
I would add myself to the list to join if I wasn't so busy with work and stuff. Right now my game limit seems to be at a maximum of one and that one game can't be huge. :X

Still having a ton of fun despite RL limiting the amount of free time I have to RP.

Updated, was convinced to try out Horror MU, really liking it. The new dice system and game concept is really refreshing!

I demand an option in games to disallow other players to play the game any way other than mine.
I have the -right- as a white male to enforce my Christian worldview on others and demand that they conform to -my- desires.
Anything less is discrimination and proof that white males are the true victims of oppression in modern society.
Finally someone said it. We need more symbols of the Great White Christ on my battle mechs.
The Crusader mech should be your ancestral mech, with a large Red Cross painted on the chest over a white painted background.

Another pet peeve about TS is mages. I was dating a girl ICly when a mage, who literally met her at a party and thought she was cute, used Mind/Corr/Life to impregnate her from across town. Just out of the blue. She had met the guy once for all of three poses. Staff said he could do it so we rolled with it but it was fucked up and she stopped playing that character about a week later.
I mean the guy is a creep, obviously. This isn't even about TS (I mean... there was none either way), it's about forcing another player into something they didn't sign up for in any conceivable way.
But there's no excuse - zero - for staff who let that happen let alone actually encourage it. The only sane response to that was "no, get out", and that should have been the end.
Conversely the only sane response to staff who 'let that happen' is "wtf, lol, bye".
Seriously. What happened sound pretty much rape since the player of the female character didn't even consent. The only reasonable action in my eyes (maybe I would be a very bad WoD staff since I've had zero experience in that genre) is to ban the creeper. You don't need that kind of psycho in your games.

RE: Heroic Sacrifice
@kestrel Another option, which storytellers/gamemasters will have to make on the fly, is to keep an eye on the participants. Is there a player that has chosen to take a backseat from those who pushes out front to shine, and continues to play well, contribute meaningfully as a support player, and reacts/plays more in line with what his character is capable of instead of overreaching just to maintain the spotlight. Tweak the scene/plot/mission where there is a nice twist where that quieter player is the one that spots the crucial thing that leads to success, because he wasn't in the forefront. Just to show that the hero sometimes isn't the one that is front and center, trying to hold everyone's attention.

@calindra
The trick is to stop caring about other folks more than they care for me. If you know the answer as to how to do that, please do share.
The answer is much easier to share than it is the do. It may also come down as selfish or stuck up but I personally don't see it that way.
In the end, you just have to realize that you are the most important thing that exists in your life. You take precedence. When someone says something to you, just gauge if it is worth your time acknowledging it. If it's meaningless BS, then its trash and ignored. There is no reason to waste another minute of your time thinking about it or reacting to it. If there is substance to what was said and it can help you improve yourself, then work on it to better yourself.
It's fine to be selfish mentally, it is not your job in life to please everyone or accept everyone. If they don't contribute meaningfully or positively into your life, they aren't needed. There is no reason to spend any of your energy on them.
Takes time and repetition.

RE: Hello MSBites! Grade your administrators.
One thing I would like to point out, at least in my experience in life is that complaints, venting, etc will usually be more numerous than comments of contentment. When someone is content on a game and having fun, there is no real reason to post about it. All is well in their MU*ing world and there is no reason to rock that world. It's when shit has hit the fan, someone feels they got slighted somehow, some creeper has shown themselves and someone wants to get the word out, that is when posts are made and more visibly.
To me the Hog Pit should be there, because stuff like this has to go somewhere. And posts like those are harder to contain/moderate without people feeling more slighted. (Why did I get modded heavier than he or she, blah blah blah.) I do agree with Ark that if do not wish to engage with the Hog Pit, the don't.
Why take the comments seriously if you feel if they have no merit. Play in your circles, if you are having fun and those you usually interact with are having fun with you, fuck the haters. Can't please everyone in the world. If something is wrong though, then your friends should be kind enough to pull you aside and give you a word of advice. Also, you should be kind enough to accept the advice and change for the better, not become defensive and lash out. In the end, it's about people and how they want to work with each other. Luckily this isn't a work place where you are forced to interact with certain people, for better or for worse.

RE: Star Wars?
@bored I haven't played on a D6 Star War game in forever but back in the day I played on a few of them and that's what I remember about dice and force users. A difference of 1D felt significant, a difference of 2D was huge. Wild dies were amusing, especially when you roll multiple 6's but that was rare.

Longest marriage I had was on Firan I think. Never got divorced and I haven't had any character die yet. Never actually had a break up, come to think of it.
But I think the average time it takes for my character to get into romantic RP is about a year. Not so much because I'm picky so much as it's never my focus and it just kind of happens. I rarely -pursue- it.
I enjoyed having my character married to yours, though it's a shame it outlasted the game.
We were married? Which game was this? I'm trying to remember! Jacen? Elias?
Rowan!
Awww Rowan! That game closed so fast! Twas sad!
Our house was going places. Just sayin.

RE: General Video Game Thread
Is Civ 6 a good game now? From what I heard, on release it wasn't worth the money. Humblebundle is giving it away if you subscribe to them so it sounds like a pretty good deal for $12.

There's a really good book by Susan Cain called "Quiet: The Power of Introverts In A World That Can't Stop Talking". She actually talks about the scientific research done regarding introverts and extroverts on a biological level, and it's some pretty fascinating stuff.
She also has a very interesting TED talk.
If you think you're an introvert, or even just know an introvert, or are an extrovert that wants to understand the difference, I highly recommend both.
Just read the transcripts of that video, very informative, great link. Certainly helps me understand much better on what being an introvert means.
