I mean, if the other person asks and there's consent from both parties, send a picture of whatever body part y'all want.

If there's consent from both parties I don't think we're going to see complaints either. People can do anything they want to each other as far as I am concerned, as long as there is consent.

Let me amend that. "There is no situation I can conceive of where unsolicited dick pics are a good idea."

@Kestrel You've seen mine. Somebody asks, Richard Nixon picture it is. I have no idea why anyone would possibly think this is a good idea. I cannot imagine any time I'd want to send or receive one. There is no situation I can conceive of where this is a good idea.

I'm guessing it largely has to do with showing dominance, though. "Look, I just forced you into a sexual situation whether you liked it or not."

@Tinuviel He does. And if he wants to feed my spam filter hate mail, let's hope for his sake that he gets a kick out of it because I won't give a whole lot of fucks.

I love playing my character's job.

Yeees. I'm having amazing amounts of fun lately, just playing bartender in training and doing weirdass tricks with bottles and maraschino cherries.

@Kestrel I am in no doubt that this guy is a very fine specimen of toxic masculinity. He is a textbook example of the stereotypical basement dweller with a grudge-on, all the ability to be bloody annoying, and none of the ability to figure out what it is he actually wants. Besides showing women admins and coders who's boss, apparently.

Someone else mentioned a ban list to be shared among games. I'm not so keen on that idea for multiple reasons.

One, leopards can change their spots. I did talk with someone who's on GH and SS both and at the time we were still in the belief he'd done nothing on SS, we agreed that no, we weren't going to do anything either. Because it is possible for someone to be a dick on one game but not on another, and witch hunts aren't pretty. Our attitude changed rather fast when the connection to what happened to Kestrel was made, obviously.

Second, leopards certainly can change their names. It'd be practically impossible to keep up. I mean, this guy has been recognised over and over on his behaviour, not on his name or IP.

And third, we're it. This board has proved highly effective in dealing with this dude, as has the Discord groups that many of us are in. We talk. When it's bad enough, we act. And if there's anything to be learned from this mess, it's that we're actually pretty good at connecting dots and dealing with things. We can pat ourselves on the back for that. No one started up the old chestnuts about manning up or dealing with it or keep this private. We've proved that yes, we can in fact band together when necessary. And that makes me a happy musher.

From my recollection, he was reasonable with @L-B-Heuschkel who had logged in with a male name, and focused entirely on me, with a female name...

Correct. From what I have seen, bumping into him now three times (I don't think he made the connection from Discworld to my Gray Harbor char), he's exceedingly and unfailingly polite to men. And rather not so to women. This is definitely a misogyny thing.

    • RE: Lack of email from MSB

@Arkandel Will do -- they're offline at the moment but they'll be back. Meantime, they did say they found themselves able to log in and post without the confirmation, so it's not a high panic issue. I'll get you a name asap.

@mietze She confirms that she can log in. Didn't think she could because it still bugs her for a confirmation email. Told her to ignore that and get on with life until the email turns up some day or it doesn't. Thank you!

Anything going on with MSB's registration process this week? Friend of mine gets no confirmation, has checked spam filters, etc.

Totally mildly constructive because she's very very nice.

@Auspice said in A bit of trouble on Firefly😆 It's really easy to get along and he just literally cannot.

He's actually very nice and reasonable and likeable -- until he isn't. He's perfectly capable of settling into a game, being someone you'll want to play with, joining the club. If he wanted, he could absolutely be a good addition to any roleplaying group -- well spoken, fast typer, imaginative.

It's just not what he wants. It's a little sad-funny, watching someone who has all the toys throw them out of the pram like that.

@mietze said in A bit of trouble on Firefly:

@Scissors I think it's both. A lot of people probably don't think they are "as bad as" their behavior. But yeah, I do think in this particular case, he enjoys provoking reactions more than playing/participating.

Spot on. The characters I've seen, the people I've seen him go after, it's all about using whatever works to get under their skin and establish who's boss.

I'm inclined to agree with whoever said that he's probably enjoying all the mentions here immensely. It's still worth it to let him have that satisfaction, though, if it means that the various games don't have to deal with the fall-out of each having to go through 2-3 harassment cases before the jig is up. Any harassment case avoided is a good one.

@TiredEwok For what it's worth, this guy is really good at what he does. Don't blame yourself. He got me twice, on two different games. I used to think I had good troll radar, too.

@Kestrel Can verify he pulled a similar stunt when banned elsewhere, trying to garner sympathy in Discord groups.

    • RE: A bit of trouble on Firefly

@jphuygh We had him visit at the short-lived Ankh-Morpork MUSH too, I think. At least the bloke there sounded and acted much the same. Really sweet in pages, latching on to existing roleplayers, discussing his character, seeming sane and nice and someone you'd want to play with.

Then proving himself to be a complete nut job once his app got rejected.

Bit ironic if it is the same guy, that he'd latch on to me for a long chat twice on two different games. I guess my troll radar ain't all that.

    • RE: A Lack of Imagination

@Roz I retain information by turning it into a narrative. This is why I can't seem to retain even pretty simple information in real life but I can absolutely tell you what happened in an RP scene six weeks ago. Because that was a story and hence, retainable.

@Auspice Story of my life as well, that. I tag people with some tagline on Ares pages so I can keep them apart. In real life? Same, but on the cell phone. It's not that I don't care. I just literally can't tell people's names and faces apart, and I get them mixed up most embarrassingly.

Logging in to discover a log of a scene I was not in, did not know was taking place, and had no influence on -- but it's a direct consequence of a plot I am running, and the player characters are totally into that plot, they picked up all my cues from previous scenes and are energetically comparing notes and coming up with solutions.

    • RE: Getting into Writing

@Selira I can definitely relate. I never let my hatred of hand writing stop me as a kid and teenager, but after computers -- forget it. I can barely write a shopping list by hand. Handwriting worthy of an MD, cramps from fingertips to ears, smearing. I have no idea how I coped before computers were a thing -- I vaguely recall my parents' mechanical typewriter.
