And for the record in no way have I thought or talked about Lithium as a villian. I don't think that, nor have I. We just disagree, and probably just BY degree.

RE: RL Anger
I hate having to watch history repeat itself in pretty dark patterns. It really sucks that there are so many things in life that you have to just shut up and let people do what they're going to do, and hope that maybe you can be there to help pick up the pieces afterwards. The generational affects of neglect and abuse can be really fucking tough and most of the time with anyone but yourself, there's absolutely nothing, /nothing/ you can do until they're ready. I hate that shit.

RE: World (Chronicles?) of Darkness Concepts You Would Enjoy RPing with
In an era of everyone needing to be an 18 year old ninja princess with PT5, being a veteran, jaded veteran cop is still a snowflake. In fantasyland OR real life. I
I wish people kind of got out of their minds that in order to snowflake on a MUSH, it doesn't necessary mean that you have to be The Best or The Only. I think that tends to lead to a lot of issues.
So I guess my concepts that I enjoy RPing with the most are people who are able to take on concepts who a lot of people turn their noses up at and make them dynamic and fun for the other people in the scene/in relationship with them. Because they are the foil, or you know, they do have the potential to get lucky. They're not going to be the one who knows everything. I love seeing people ham up their failures. I could just be weird though.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
Crop tops are a thing. I love that I see lots of young folks of diverse sizes and shapes looking cute and rocking them.
But when they creep also into clothing targeted to my demographic, like not AARP eligible but heavy on the middle aged chubby lady--i mean nobody wants to see that. I need to reach over my head a lot (I'm also short), from getting shit off shelves or dancing around with my preschool class. And now EVEN IF you find shirts that are fine in front and back, they go up on the sides. I can't wear standard tees due to school dress code except on Fridays.
You know what is worse than inadvertent side boob? Unwanted side muffin top. (Though I understand from friends either sounds better than unexpected side balls when it comes to possessor comfort) And its a bad idea for a uterus posesser of my age to have to wear layers, if you don't want us to look like a sweaty mess.
The lead teacher laughed at me yesterday until I pointed out her shirt was doing the same thing so at least misery has company.

RE: Space Lords and Ladies
Also in the source books for FS there's no real social sanction for fucking whomever you want to (unless your an Avestite I suppose?), as long as you marry who Big Momma/Daddy tells you to, there's forced divorces, a whole house of aliens/humans who can't usually procreate so when they marry they have to choose a fuckbuddy that can knock them up/be knocked up.
I've seen more magical babies and emphasis on pregnancy in WoD (especially for some bizarre reason oWoD) than anywhere else. So I gotta say, I'm with the others that are kind of wondering where this is going.
I mean, look. On ANY mush that's got a tight theme you are going to have people who really don't care to get involved in it that much, they're just there to simper/maybe someone they know dragged them/maybe they want the novelty of the setting sort of even if they never plan on darkening the grid for public RP. Usually these people don't scream and whine and moan about play they're not getting. So as long as they're meeting minimum standards, if you have a player who just wants to parade around with her pregnancy belly and bubble butt or whatever, or the guy who wants to just get laid in his starship (assuming these are not in short supply/taking up resources that another player can't get) vs. a RP room, then really--they harm none. I think sometimes we hyperventilate too much about those people.
Now, if PreggoFantasyGrrl also demands to be captain of the guard war leader and lead the troops into battle in a sexist society and she's bearing a major House's future heir? THAT is a problem that you probably should swat down. Or if Capt. Colin Forsecs wants to be head of the starshippers guild but can't be assed to get out of his bunk to run any events/plots get his people what they need? Also a problem. But you can deal with that shit by having clear expectations + as other people have mentioned non genitalia-centric things for people to do. But it's not /really/ a fucking problem.

RE: Pandemic Era Issues
@arkandel vaccines have become the new satanic panic. A cultural phenomenon that has been part of settler culture and social behavior since colonial times.
If you rabbit hole for the various incidents of satanic panic over the last 50 years or so, there's a ton of similarity culturally, socially, ec.

RE: Cultural differences between MUDs and MUSHes
I can't imagine that ooc targeting never happens on MUDs just because there's humans involved.
But yes, on a MUSH there can be big histories of IC conflict blown up into ooc in particularly unfun ways (poisoning the well, ect). So I do think you'll have more people checking in ooc, either if you start an IC conflict or they do, just to make sure everyone's cool.
Though you're right, there are also people that very clearly feel they can't make any mistakes or can only make mistakes on their terms. Sometimes that's due to unfortunate experiences on other games, sometimes it's something intrinsic to them.
I think most of the time asking is just a way to proactively communicate (I'm fine with however things go, or hey I am enjoying this and you're a lot of fun even if my PC is a jerk/thinks yours is).
Metaposing is sticky. Unless it's meant to poke fun at oneself or explain a very immediate context of a scene, ect--I think it tends to give the impression of wanting to dominate the scene/force people into spectate mode (especially when the pose is essentially non interactive). I think most people do that now and again, it's a legitimate device for moving a scene, but if someone does it habitually in a domineering, selfish, or snarky way I will tend to not enjoy RPing with them very much or want to be involved much with them (IME it tends to extend way into ooc interactions too). So I don't know that it's a no never thing so much as use with intention and awareness of others' enjoyment rather than habitual style.
MUSHing is partially collaborative storytelling. Other players are not your captive audience, ideally pcs grow/are affected by the other pcs and shared stories/events/fuckups/victories. I am not sure how much that is actually put into practice. I think things would be a lot more fun if people were less ooc unkind and unwilling to extend some grace to other players in exchange for allowing more failure/IC conflict to be resolved (which is easier to do when people are not nasty/suspicious/tone deaf to each other ooc).

RE: Autism and The MU* Community
@groth not according to the thread.
Managing games where you are going to have to deal with a variety of behaviors (some intentional and some not) and how and when you draw the line is pretty important given how we do have more than a few people in the hobby who are neurodiverse.
If you do not wish to comment on that particular angle or it doesn't interest you then that's cool, but you are also not really the arbiter of what is on topic for a broad thread or not. Unless your thoughts would have taken you off topic, which of of course is totally up to you to decide.
Game management that is sensitive to people who struggle with certain cues or behavior that can create issues when it comes to respecting boundaries is something that many if not most of us who run games have had to deal with, especially when we have empathy for the person exhibiting those behaviors. Or in trying to communicate that in a way that is concise and does not rely on unwritten assumptions.
Whether we too share those impulses or difficulty, whether we have people we know who do, or whether its just so foreign to our existence that we cannot even begin to relate.I prefer trying to find a consensual outlet for people who like and enjoy arguing fine details ect where they can have fun with others who like doing that without stressing out people who do not over telling people they can never engage in that sort of discussion. I find having a safe outlet leads to less explosive behavior or anxiety in people who are not claiming to struggle while actually using that to push past others' limits, but genuinely enjoy that sort of thing and cannot gauge when they may be making others uncomfortable.

RE: Cultural differences between MUDs and MUSHes
I don't see the latter as an offensive metapose. If it had been something like the following:
@ixokai is one cocky motherfucker. Kestrel just stares at him with a baffled expression when he steps on up to that wall with the clearly stated intention of climbing it. There is no way he can climb that wall — look how short his stubby legs are. She is just so fed up with this guy, what with all the trouble he's caused her for the last week, she's cried herself to sleep every night. Why does he have to be so mean to her when no one's around? She can't wait until he falls off so that he knows how stupid he is.. "Go for it!" she says.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
Maybe "we" should focus on changing that, rather than focusing on how "we" need to change the fat people. We need to change attitudes and behaviors of almost everyone including insurance company executives and the many people who make a shitload of money in the diet/weight loss industry too.
Just a thought.
But every time someone points out issues with focusing primarily on the weakness of the fat person, or looking at how more health can be attained even in the absence of one measure people freak out. OMFG you're giving up!!! When the reality us that weight loss does not guarantee health and in fact there are some major health risks associated with it as well. Especially if the person goes into the off/on/off/on method. It is probably actually better for someone to stay modestly chunky, get more active and less sedentary, and never lose a pound rather than getting on a cycle of severe calorie deficit eating and weight cycling.
I know it is hard for people to accept that things are more complicated, and a lot of what we "know" is wrong in regards to the realities of weight loss and also impacts to health. I wish more people looked at things other than the fat people with a critical eye.
That isn't giving up, it is looking towards being able to better support people.
People often point towards actions towards the tobacco industry as something to be modeled after, but the issue with that is that when they talk about doing that for obesity they only want to focus on the generic food industry rather than the multiple billion dollar "diet" industry, and that would absolutely need to be part of a crackdown. So its complicated.
Maybe we need to hold ourselves accountable for giving up when we admonish the people who are struggling first and foremost.

RE: How does a Mu* become successful?
I feel you, Wretched. One of the irritating and just morale grating experiences I had on TR as a Ling admin was denying MGMT his fucking 9 foot long tail and a whole bunch of other shit mien...at Wyrd 2. So much public boohooing, lying, so much other people saying "OMG YOU BITCH Y U DENY PLAYERS SOMETHING". Verbal abuse on the job, in pages. Relentless. But you know, guy was "having a bad day, he's not usually that bad."

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
In less stressful news, I got my L&I income replacement check from the state. It's less than half, but better than nothing, and allowed me to at least make the health insurance payment, so there is that. I was shocked that it only took a couple of weeks.

RE: Survival/Apocalypse Genre Survivability
I think in most survival games (admittedly my experience of the genre is Battlestar, which is a twist on it...though arguably I would say that survival/EOTW games are the most individualistic because there's so many scenarios) there's an easy way to introduce "pockets" of new pcs/survivors, the only issue is that this can also mean you perpetually have to deal with pissing angst contests about who had it worse. Which again,is cool now and then but can be tiresome/deflating of ooc morale (new pcs want to tell their story and get yawned at or alternatively the pissing contest starts). It can be managed by having staff ready to have things for people to do and ways to help incorporate the new folks in, which may not be feasible depending on the staff.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@greenflashlight nope, I don't want HRT. Being on hormonal bc as a younger woman gave me massive migraines and some clotting issues, and I also have some breast cancer history in my family.
I just am ready to be done with the kind of periods and cycles one gets in perimenopause. Ready for liberation!!

RE: Pretendy Fun Time Games
I've done that in the past Theno. I am at the stage of life currently though where I'm tired and I would like to just be a player (or not, as the case may be) and to just either enjoy things or fade. I will give any place 3 chances or 3 months, depending on the size and how much I am into the theme. If after 3 months of good faith effort on my part it still feels like there's not much in the way of meeting me halfway, or there's 3 strikes of asshole behavior, I fade. It keeps things drama free since generally no one gives a shit, if they're having fun and the people who are not generally will leave before me--and at this point my friends in the community have ways to contact me otherwise!

RE: The Shame Game
It's not okay that someone would like a source for why they were thinking about the subject? I realize hardly anyone does that and it's mostly "I feel" but I don't understand why it isn't okay to explain the source of where the thought came from.
I thought name-dropping was more about inserting a famous figure into a conversation and relating one's personal relationship with them to show off? Possibly I am not up to date with the current definition.

RE: Goofy things one does in down time.
I feel lowbrow because my destress brain candy videos of choice involve videos of ingrown hair or earwax removal and compilations of tiktok fart pranks (on youtube). Also horrible things like dance moms and toddlers and tiaras clips. And redneck barbie car races.
Though I do also disappear into food travel videos and documentaries too.

RE: Where have all the crunchy games gone?
Bear in mind that 'social interaction dice' are a very screamed about thing and usually the least used feature of WoD on games, because you're a rapist pariah if you want to ever use your dice to determine what another PC might be influenced towards. People start hyperventilating at the mere thought of using it. So honestly, most PrPs I've seen or even staff run things on WoD mushes are heavily combat oriented or spectating. Even heavily "political oriented" splats in mushdom tend to never get to use their social dice or merits at all (except for to get a few extra dug rooms on their mansions, ect) or very seldom, so combat skills dominate. That is starting to change now, thank god.
But as I said before--social capital is king, and not from your +sheet, and can be on rules focused games as well.
I'm not sure a SR game would die without staff. I noticed the various SR spinoffs seems to have a lot more focus on social RP and less staff running of things, and many of them lasted for quite some time. In addition, I wouldn't have termed most of the huge bloated staff register on some of those games (including SR seattle even in its heyday) as "good".

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
Its not just hospital icu/er care that is affected. I have had an important procedure delayed now 3 times which has definitely impacted my mental health and has the possibility thar it may impact my physical health too, depending.
I dont complain about it bc med staff and providers have enough shit in their lives and they're doing the best they can.
I do think though that if someone ever cares to track other things, people overburdening and already shitty system with covid will have led to a lot more deaths indirectly due to making care for other things less accessible. From routine things catching issues to delay in cancer screening/tests and the like.
