Tragedyjones can't do it again. It is such tragedy.

RE: Balancing wizards and warriors
There are also several sources of balance to consider:
- how much damage you can do or special abilities you have
- how the world will treat you socially
- how well you face what the world offers in opposition (it might be that wizards are easily screwed when facing say lots of archers, or metal armor, OR that all major threats require magic to even try to face)
The "obvious answer" is make everyone wizards, but warriors just describe their spells as attacks. That never miss magic missile spell becomes perfect aim charm with a thrown weapon that counts as magic and we never run out of.
Really I'd just look at the challenges you want to offer and see if Wizards or Warriors just wont work out. Or go the Ars Magica route, and everyone has a wizard and everyone has a warrior, but each mission features only 1-2 wizards.

RE: Are there any historically-themed WoD mu*?
As a reminder, games often have more than 10 players. Who will drift in and out. So referring to shows requires that you look carefully at the dynamic of the characters, and it is applicable to 50 players.
So Buffy could work, as long as you have multiple slayers, which the setting did at the end.
Penny dreadful's character dynamics had involved backstories that mattered, and little contact with others who knew any of what was going on. The viewers learned as the characters did, or slower. This dynamic does not work on a MU*.

@prism hopefully that conscious realization will put you on the path to a better set of reactions etc for you. It can really set off changes.

RE: Balancing wizards and warriors
@insomniac7809 said in Balancing wizards and warriors:
When the power levels are all narrative ... "roll Forceful to Overcome Obstacle" or whatever, everyone has the same... I dunno... "meta-narrative(?)" involvement in the outcome, even if in the narrative Thor is slugging it out with the whole CGI army while Natasha is running the goober to the skybeam to shut it down or whatever. These (FATE Accelerated?) ideas actually sounds pretty good.
I do think one reason magical powers and such get player attention is that they let you imagine more fantastical thoughts, feelings and drives for your PC, and describe more fantastical events, while having all the capacities of most other character types. It has a higher sense of significance.

RE: Are there any historically-themed WoD mu*?
I'd suggest reading some of those Penny Dreadfuls then. They are, in fact, usually terrible, or plain and simple.
Then again Dumas wrote in serials, and I like his stuff.
Also, I wasn't accusing anyone of anything. I said look at the character dynamics, and see if that is what is interesting or is there a more applicable part of a property. Same would apply to plotting, pacing, and writing styles of awesome authors.
It was a note.

RE: The Dog Thread
@cobalt At least Derp doesn't let their dog fight what I assume is a pixel graphics enemy in the living room.

RE: Balancing wizards and warriors
@carma You could also say "play an Aes Sedai like they are shown in the book, or play something else".
The idea of basing something on an IP usually is to emulate and expand on the stories and feel as presented. Or you specifically call out a "what if X was different" as part o the setup.
"What if the heroes were rules lawyering embodiments of choas"
Like if I wanted to do Force users based less on whats in the Star Wars cannon and more about emotional stability, self control, and self image I'd want to be clear it was going to be Star Wars like, but with different emphasis on what guides a Force Users behavior.

RE: Shadowrun Denver & New Plot
"Realistic" but yucky. The party is apart.
The decker isn't at physical risk like the party, and the party can't do anything if someone comes after their decker. AND they are now trapped in a hostile system potentially.

RE: nWoD Games?
Most games change routinely. They are not trying to achieve a perfection to then hold onto for decades. Each new product is a new chance for a purchase. Players moving onto the new theme, the new setting, the new focus of mechanics, is a trend that supports new sales.
Took me a while to realize that motivates a lot of development.

RE: The Work Thread
@macha this may already be on the table, but if not: consider having the trainers use screen and voice recording software (its out there for free) and either with a trainee present (you), or alone have them narrate what they are doing and why then share that video. They can do that al day and it's available for viewing and reviewing, transcripting, and it's not dependent on being able to connect at a specific moment time or technologywise.
I'm beginning to think this "training" and these managers are why that project is borked.

RE: Nepotism versus restricted concepts
What if the fair approach is you have to convince me you get the key element that makes this restricted concept restricted?

RE: Coming in 2016 - Bump in the Night
That is definitely the time to move to a private room. I am all for letting people have their private moments spontaneously, and I am fine with having my own scene while someone else is sharing the same public space. That is what all public grid spaces are for really, use by everyone, any time. Everything else can use a private room, which is why I love RP rooms.

@wizz yikes, maybe it's time to take that jewelry called nipple shields literally.
Why are cats this way???

RE: Previously Mutants & Masterminds MUX, now a Question! DUN DUN DUN!
Character sheets can be rated by a game system, and still just be used for narrative/RP guidelines. As long as you understand how the game rates things, and how any dice probabilities actually work, you're good.
EG, I have ability at X, a difficulty-resistance of Y, so I would normally have an N% chance to succeed. If that is a high chance, I describe it working with ease, if low, I can fail or describe several tries or that its pure luck.
