    • RE: Roleplayer's shower thoughts

      Shower thoughts:

I think about buying suggested book on Apache wars.
That could make for better Apache Scions in my Victorian Scion game.
Why do the Scions show up now, and not when they could have saved the First Nations?
Because Scions (in my setting) are created specifically to face Titan activity.
      Scions suck.
Scions and the Gods have sucked for every group who were scattered or wiped out throughout history.
      This game is depressing.

@cobaltasaurus I can loan you Traveller Book 5 High Guard for that sort of "RP".

If you want, you can roll the dice, and I'll "GM" it for you.

    • RE: A Game of Thrones MUX Discussion

I'd like to see one of the interesting set of "realm" rules in use for a Lords and Lady game, GoT or one made of diamond dust and romance. The Company rules of Reign, the realm improvement stuff from Birthright or any product.

I like having something to do.

    • RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.

@arkandel The answer here is don't put these people in charge of any form of non land navigation, fact checking, or positions where you need to trust their overall judgement.

It is unlikely this will affect their breeding success one way or another, nor is it likely inheritable.

(Or they could just circumnavigate Antatica on a boat, using that "trusted" method of ships mapping the shoreline. I believe they will find it much smaller than their map suggests, though that may be due to mind control, time warps, Ka-Zar, Marshal Will and Holly, or being replaced by dopplegangers.)

@arkandel Given the flat earth map, it seems a simple and doable test would be to find two land masses that are close according to the globe, but far according to the flat map, and fly the distance. You don't even have to violate their "ice walls".

You can start it as an online discussion if that seems helpful.

However, it would do best as a web page or wiki. Documentation is there when you need it.

@auspice Sadly, until you have the basic design pattern down, that is always the case. Bugs and basic functionality.

I don't even answer threads like this. That's how secretive I am.

I also use a headset that makes me sound like a Thenomain, by which I mean a robot. It should sound like T-Pain, but whatever.

@misadventure I'm more of a tea person. Coffee is a last resort fuel. 🙂

How about a lovely two layer vacuum insulated cheerfully colored 20 oz cup with lid and a box of your favorite tea?

    • RE: Podcasts? Podcasts!

      Thanks for all these suggestions!

I commute from one city to another at the beginning and end of my workweek (this is ending soon) and having podcasts finally made those trips not just bearable, but well used time. I started with Dan Carlin's Hardcore History and You Are Not So Smart, and have been expanding slowly ever since.

Oddly I pretty much dislike most RPG related podcasts because of the talk format. Actual play meant to illustrate a system or style of play are the most useful to me. Example: the actual play of Masks (teen super heroes) a PbtA based game, but it also helped as well made it artificial that it was the Whelmed : the Young Justice podcast team playing as the Young Justice characters with Masks.

Maybe it can be packaged up so another person could use the setup, or as a place to start adding in their own code?

    • RE: Star Wars or Starfinder?

There are a LOT of sci-fi games to choose from, though they do tend to clump together in what the game system is doing. Like many other RPGs, the setting is often the actual product, the rules just there to describe it. I mean how many Star Trek-like RPGs are there, outside the official actually Star Trek ones? Some use typical systems, some use ones that focus the action on teamwork, or the players describing and creating a lot more, and so on.

And really the question is what setting do you want to play? Then get the mechanics. You don't want Darkside/Lightside tokens in your Star Trek game, even if you choose to use the Genesys aka current Star Wars RPG system.

    • One Dollar Mystery Campaign and IC cultures

The One Dollar Mystery Campaign is as it says, a Kickstarter that for $1.00 gets you an undescribed at the start campaign setting.

The author is amusing to me. There are also some interesting ideas in the work so far, but the sample given today has a brief but interesting description of culture. Just thought I'd share.
