@Lithium My store has customer service up at the front and site to store (or Pickup) at the rear. Corporate did a good thing for once and helpfully painted a bright blazing biohazard orange wall about 10 feet high right above where the Pickup area is. Its even marked with a very large sign proclaiming 'PICKUP HERE'. And yet, despite the fact that I can walk in the front door and IMMEDIATELY see this bright paint and sign, every day we have multiple people who will line up for customer service, even people that will wait for upwards of ten minutes, only to say they have an item they want to pickup. And then, when informed that the pickup area is at the back under the BRIGHT ORANGE WALL, get huffy and blame us for them having to wait.

Even better. The bathrooms are stationed directly to the left of the service desk. And I mean directly. They're literally three feet away. There's even a sign on the wall right under the customer service sign that says '& Restrooms'. Yet we get dozens of people every day that will walk up to the service desk and ask where the bathrooms are. Often while standing no more than five feet away from the bathroom door.

In short, people get more and more lazy every day. They can't even be bothered to LOOK for themselves, they want someone else to spoonfeed the answer to them.

      1. Do not fish receipts from the trash cans and try to use them to 'bring things back for return'. WE KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. Stop it.

      2. If I tell you store policy prevents me from using your friend/girlfriend/wife's ID because you 'left yours at home'? My manager will tell you the same goddamn thing. Knock it off, you aren't special and we aren't risking our jobs for your laziness!

      3. If I tell you that you cannot return an item WITHOUT RECEIPT because it does not show up in our system? My manager cannot magically make it appear there! Idiots.

      4. IF YOUR PAPERWORK CLEARLY TELLS YOU TO NOT BRING THE ITEM TO A STORE FOR RETURN, DO NOT BRING THE ITEM TO THE STORE FOR RETURN. WE CANNOT HELP YOU.

I've been getting LootCrate since December. My boys LOVE getting it in the mail and my youngest is always super eager to see what goodies we're getting this month. He's already jacked the DD beanie, the Warcraft shirt, the Infinity Gauntlet oven mitt, the Dr. Who socks, and all the boxes. He keeps his Lego Dimensions stuff in the boxes. My oldest has been enjoying the figures and busts that we get. He's gotten a Terminator bust, a Lady Deadpool, the Hulk, and one other that I can't recall offhand. I largely enjoy the shirts and the little comics and extras that get sent. The d20 iceball is a favorite. 🙂 Fun for the whole family!

And stop using 800 handwipes on ONE cart handle! They're soaked in disinfectant, you only need one, dammit! Tired of having someone pull me aside every five goddamn minutes to bitch about the sanitizing wipes being empty.

Neither WIC nor foodstamps cover diapers. You have to qualify for cash assistance to have those covered.

Without a receipt, we can't even accept forumla. Anything that could have been a WIC item (formula included), can only be direct exchanged for the exact item or a larger version of that item. So formula for formula only.

@vanderlylle You'd be amazed the things that people think they can return to ANY store. As mentioned above, they'll try to return things that didn't even come from the store they're returning it to. Stuff that's obviously used. Stuff that's EMPTY. Stuff that they didn't even bring with them, if it exists at all.

@Cobaltasaurus I could share the one where I was working the service desk and the drunk guy ran into the men's room (helpfully situated RIGHT NEXT to the service desk) and threw up all over the place. Maintenance at our store is largely all hispanic with little to no English and one white dude that would lose a race with molasses in February. We have no air conditioning in our store, either. You know, the one in FLORIDA. And we had to wait. An hour. For someone to show up to clean up the mess.

Or I could share the one where the obese woman complained that all the carts were being left in the handicap lane so nobody could walk in it... then promptly left the motorized chaircart in the handicap lane when she left the store.

Or there's the one where I was CSM'ing and had to deal with the asshole who insisted that we had to take back the car radio he bought despite being WELL past the return policy's due date by claiming he got the replacement plan. When told he would have to go through the 800 number, he cut me off to yell that he'd already tried that and they would only give him store credit because there was nothing wrong with the radio, he just found a cheaper one online and he wanted cash.

Or the one where the lady tried to return a USED breast pump, without receipt, three years after she'd purchased it (her own admission).

Or maybe the special woman who INSISTED that her case manager told her her WIC would cover food AND clothes... the clothes were for her, by the way, not her baby. She also had makeup that she was trying to buy with WIC because, and I quote, 'its a necessity'.

My favorite stories, however, revolve around the 75% off clearance sales the store manager's have been pimping off and on for the last six months.

@mietze There are certain markers you can look for for age, but the 'ID if customer appears under X' is SO arbitrary that it makes the job impossible. When the age was 40, that seemed like a reasonable marker. There are certain facial aspects that you can expect for most people that are 40+ (crow's feet at the eyes, brackets around the mouth, the start of crepey skin at the neck and hands).

But at Walmart, the age was arbitrarily set to 35, because apparently if the law says card anyone under 40, setting Walmart's policy to 35 makes Walmart 'better'. I'm 33 and I get carded for EVERYTHING. I'm told I have a youthful face. Which is great, I'm enjoying it, and I don't mind being carded.

But for all the people out there that are purposely seeking to look younger than their age? Don't get pissed at me when I ask to see your ID. You get face lifts and chin tucks and botox injections, and you dye your hair regularly so that you can appear 30 instead of 45, you lose your right to get huffy when I can't tell that you're 45.

@Jaded They... shouldn't even be able to ring that item back into the system, then. Different pricing systems, different barcodes... your roomate needs to find a different store. Those front desk people are going to get that store shut down.

@Jaded Those people are idiots. Walmart policy is that without a receipt, food items HAVE to be a direct exchange of item for item since you can't be sure any particular item didn't come from WIC or food stamps. And you are legally required to NOT cash out WIC or food stamps.

      Okay. Horror Story #1!

This was... 2-3 weeks ago? Wal-Mart, of course.

There's an assisted living community nearby that busses in their more 'independent' residents to do their weekly shopping. One such resident, female, comes in, does her shopping, gets into the speedy checkout lane (the one right in front of the tobacco). She proceeds to shit all over the floor during the transaction, saying nothing at all the entire time, thanks the associate (because I get to be the mid-shift CSM for this lovely debacle), then proceeds to leave a literal trail of shit on the floor on her way out. We had to shut down the speedy checkout lane AND the two lanes right next to them for 40 minutes while we hunted down maintenance and got the mess cleaned up. Meanwhile, I have to have the poor associates 'guarding' the 'spill' to ensure that nobody steps in it while I get to wait for the bus to arrive so I can gently point out to the nurses that while we appreciate their communities business, we would appreciate it more if they would more stringently vet who counts as 'independent enough' to get to go to Walmart on their own, then have to relay the incident and point out the poor woman that caused the incident and insist that they provide her with a 'helper' if she's to return to the store.

@Sunny Hence why I'm saying that maybe it should simply be relabeled as a more sandbox game than one open to everyone, since its clearly not meant for everyone.

@GirlCalledBlu A sandbox, in this case, would mean a game that is meant to cater largely to the people running it, and their friends/RP buddies' preferences.

An open, public game is just that. Its open to -everyone-, and should be run as such (to the best of staff's ability/as much as the theme of the game itself will allow).

If the theme of your game is so strictly enforced to be not just accepting of, but encouraging of IC behavior that is likely to drive people away from the game, or keep them from joining in the first place? Then you're running a sandbox advertising itself as an open game.

Mind, I don't knock either type of game, I've been part of both types... but the sandbox games were very clearly marked as such, with clear warnings that certain types of behavior would be prevalent, or at least common enough that not everyone may be interested in it.

Given that your advertisement says that its okay if you haven't seen the show, I suspect you mean to run an open game. HOWEVER, given how openly antagonistic the show is towards its own characters, you may want to caveat that the game has a higher than usual level of IC PVP/antagonism to be found. It can be shocking to someone new to a theme if they aren't prepared for what that theme entails. Lord knows it was a shock to me, especially since I'd had assurances that PVP was NOT being pushed on anyone, then immediately had every scene with at least one person deriding or maligning my character. Often for little more than offering a dissenting opinion from the popular one that seemed largely derived from OOC excitement to push the plot of the show forward quickly.

@faraday Poor example. This isn't people wanting to play on Hoth intead of Tattoine. This is people not wanting to play in that alien-controlled terribad settlement ON Tattoine and instead wanting to go play out in the sand. Since the game has yet to even introduce the Mountain Men, if they can't handle a splinter group going off into the woods, they're doomed regardless. Given that the show itself branches out FROM the settlement, if there was never any intention of allowing for movement outside the settlement, I'll bet a LOT of players are going to be disappointed. This is a setting that both encouraged and cautioned people wandering about on their own. 'Go ahead, but Explore At Your Own Risk'

@GirlCalledBlu I can appreciate that you want to keep things centralized, but it sounds like most of the plot is STILL being centered only around the most proactive people, which doesn't lend much credence to your worries. If plot already largely stays within a set group, wringing your hands and saying 'but if they leave, the plot will only go to this group that's already getting the majority of the RP' doesn't mean a whole lot to those people already feeling left out. At least if they splinter, they can be off on their own without being made to feel they HAVE to contribute to a society that gives nothing back in return.

@Monogram You know what else can keep a game going? Disseminating plot points to as many people as possible through means OTHER than simply being in the previous plot scene or having to interact with someone they may have already received poor treatment from. This was a thing that was brought up on TR. People complained about getting no plot. So staff started making general bbposts and announcements letting their spheres know about stuff that was happening. When people continued to whine about no plot, staff was able to point to the posts and announcements and say 'it was made public, you could have put in a request, you could have asked for a scene, this is what we explicitly offered in these posts'. It didn't stop the complaints, obviously, but it gave everyone equal OPPORTUNITY to join.

Keep in mind, I've made my choice. There is nothing on earth that could entice me back to this game. I've lost any faith in the staff that I had. But I also recognize that others may not have made quite such final decisions. If this game is ever going to be more than a sandbox for the people already there and involved, then the wants, opinions, and suggestions of others need to be given weight and credit. Otherwise, just call it a goddamn sandbox so nobody mistakes it for anything else.

@lordbelh I wasn't talking about characters in that instance, I was talking about players. If your fun, as a player, is SO dependent on being able to be a dick to anyone, anywhere, anytime... to the point that you can't accept toning down your character's IC attitude just a little so others can enjoy the game too? Then yes, you're an asshole. But that's something you have to answer for yourself.

    • RE: The 100: The Mush

@lordbelh I'm not saying nobody can be an asshole or a bitch, but its a pervasive enough attitude that its driving multiple players away. You can be gruff or blase without being an asshole. And really, is your enjoyment of the game going to lessen THAT much if people in general tone down the IC aggression and antagonism a notch? If so, you may be an asshole yourself. I'm not asking for hug town, I pretty specifically said as much in my last post. There's a HUGE middle ground between 'hug town' and 'surrounded by assholes'. That's what I'm looking for. Because right now, there's enough people that are coming across the 'surrounded by assholes' that its worth addressing.

@GirlCalledBlu I... don't get what there is to not understand. You are having fun and think everything is peachy. Other people are having a very different experience. Are you incapable of seeing outside your own perspective? Can you not grasp that someone else may not be having the same experience you are? I... kind of feel like you're being willfully ignorant here to an extreme degree so you can protect your own fun. This... isn't rocket science. More than a few people are stepping forward to say their experience on The 100 was that other characters were being overly or needlessly antagonistic and asshole behavior in the majority of their scenes. Not just one person, not just one situation or specific instance. Its an overall IC behavior that multiple people have run into more times than not.

When it was just me, I just quietly left the game. I figured it was just me. But its not just me. There's enough people having similar problems that its become a multi-page discussion on this thread. That makes it something that needs addressing. As staff, your job is to make that effort to address it, whether you have personally experienced it or not. In short, you may need to try harder to step outside your comfort zone and look carefully at the posts people put up saying they had a bad experience. Look at what they're saying. Look at what happened. These were people who left the game quietly. They didn't kick and scream, they didn't put up big angsty posts, they didn't passive-aggressively snark on anything... they just left the game after a consistent bad experience. Why wouldn't you want to look into this?
