RE: The 100: The Mush
@GirlCalledBlu I don't think you quite get it. Its not necessarily a single person for each character, or specific interactions. Its more of an attitude that's being perpetuated enough that its turning people off in general. I think its less that X, Y, and Z are being assholes all the time as every time some characters go IC they end up having to deal with AN asshole. It may not be the same person every time, and those people may not be assholes ALL the time. But its something that's happening enough overall that its either driving people away from the game, keeping them from joining the game, or in some cases, maybe even just having them suffer in silence while hoping it gets better.
I don't think it would be too much to ask to just post a general announcement saying 'Hey, we're getting kind of a reputation for being a game of assholes, can we try to tone down the IC antagonism towards each other a bit?' Yes, some people might whine and complain about WrongFun. Congratulations, you've just found your asshole players! Anyone that can't handle NOT being a dick ALL THE TIME, or thinking that you're insisting on or enforcing a hugs'n'kisses setting by asking them to be a little more conscientious ICly? That's the asshole that's driving people away.

RE: The 100: The Mush
@Kanye-Qwest I think its being brought up because people believe said staff alts seem to be very central, integral characters to everything that happens in the game, rather than say, handing that sort of role off to another PC that might want to do something similar.
Mind, grain of salt. This is what I've cobbled together from reading the thread.

@Seraphim73 said in The 100: The Mush:
@Lithium Sorry to see you go. I was actually wondering what happened to Samson, because I enjoyed the one scene I ended up having with him as Grey.
@Miss-Demeanor If you played Mikaela (as is my assumption based on your posts), I would say that the antagonism that you were concerned about early on has lessened. It's not gone, but we never want the friction between characters to be gone, because if there's no friction, there's no story. Now, clearly some other former players agreed with your concerns, and we are continuing to course-correct as needed. For instance, we closed down apps for outright rebels against the Council/Chancellor for a while, because they're rather thick on the ground right now.
I actually do anticipate us polling players more formally at various points in the game to get their take on things, but we also chat OOCly with players (new and "long-time" -- I put quotes around that because the game is still only a month or so old) quite frequently to get their impressions of the game.
In line with Ixokai's comment, Andromeda and I (Orion) are happy to talk to any player who has questions, concerns, or just wants to check in.
If you poll people as often as you claim, then why did you not know about this? Why is this just now a thing? And frankly, having brought up my concerns to you and Andromeda and having seen zero improvement or really even any apparent attempt to curb this behavior, I lack any confidence in your 'continued' ability to actually take seriously any questions or concerns anyone actually does bring to your attention. You certainly showed mine none, and continue to do so. You acknowledge that there's an overabundance of 'rebel' characters, but do nothing at all to actually address the current rebels. That doesn't actually fix anything. Closing apps prevents even MORE, but it fixes nothing.

RE: The 100: The Mush
@Seraphim73 I will refer you to my above post.
@ixokai And I will apologize to you because I think I have you confused with someone else. I still stand by my opinion and what I saw on the game, but I was definitely a bit harsher to you as I thought you were one of the staffers. And I'm still a little... peeved at the constant confusion. I get it the first time, you haven't seen it yourself so you're understandably a bit puzzled. After that, however, continuing to express confusion simply leads me to believe you haven't really been reading since you still seem confused that people are upset. We're saying WHY we're upset, we've been saying that for pages now. There shouldn't really be any confusion left as to why.

RE: The 100: The Mush
@ixokai You have players, right here. People that are on your game right now, or were recently (not me, I jumped ship a while back). You could start there. You keep acting confused and saying 'I don't see it'. That just upsets someone already upset even further. Its like saying that because you don't have a problem, the problem doesn't exist. Instead of continuing to go 'I don't get it', why not ask any of them what they think a possible solution could be? Poll your players. Talk to them.
Post a bboard telling everyone that you want to get their opinion of the game thus far. Give them the option to do it anonymously if that exists. Otherwise assure them that nobody will be penalized for their opinion but that you're simply seeking to gauge the current standing of the game. Ask them for solutions to any problems they bring up. Ask for their opinion. This sort of thing is important in every game, but doubly so in games where PVP, conflict, and drama are built into the story.
These are the same things I tried to pass along to you guys before I left, but you insisted you had it all under control. I don't mean to sound accusatory, but aren't you supposed to be a veteran of MUSHing? How is it this basic tenet of staffing never once came up? From what I understand, you guys actually hired on a staffer at your last game who's sole job was to field player concerns and basically act as a liason between staff and players. If you aren't comfortable doing it yourselves, there's nothing wrong with that, but bring in someone that is and will.

RE: The 100: The Mush
@ixokai Yes, these are serious, real problems that people are or have had with this exact game. You may want to address them rather than continue the befuddled act.

RE: The 100: The Mush
@faraday Except nobody is claiming that any ONE person or character is 'domineering' a scene. Its an ATTITUDE, one that is a CHOICE made by those players for their characters to continue displaying. And frankly, I think it IS a little WrongFun when said attitudes are coming from a large number of the characters that are holding positions of power and/or authority and/or are major plot disseminators. That's FORCING people to deal with this attitude if they want to get anywhere or do anything.
Your own example: This isn't 'there's nothing but bar scenes, OMG'. This is 'Fuck, I can't do anything BUT bar scenes with out having to deal with Dick, Asshole, or Shitheel!'. When someone places themselves in a position of authority or power or even just PLOT... it no longer becomes JUST about their fun. They have a responsibility to ensure that others can still get their piece of the pie, too. That slice of pie shouldn't have to come with a cold topping of snark-filled shit, EVERY TIME.
Not every 'bad guy' or 'antagonist' has to be an asshole 100% of the time. Hell, most of the best ones, you don't even realize ARE the antagonist until pivotal moments. Yes, I realize this game deals with teens and everyone likes to equate that to holyfuck hormonal out of control kids. Not all teens are like that. And these aren't even true TEENS. They're adults, by their own cultures standards. These are people that would be assigned jobs, work them, would have responsbilities and duties beyond what most young adults today would have to deal with. Because they've been taught from BIRTH, that its not just about their life, its about the COLONY'S life. And yeah, they're criminals. But when spraypainting a sign or stealing a ration or slandering an elder publicly are all considered capital crimes? That's a pretty low bar for 'criminal'. So this 'oh but Jackoff Joe have to be an utter and complete dick ALL THE TIME because its my character's attitude' schtick? Smells pretty funky after you run into it the sixth time in a row.

RE: CoD - Victorian - Penny Dreadful-ish.
@surreality It was pretty funny. They actually considered it quite clever at the time.
@tragedyjones No, there were two different MU*s that were called The Greatest Game. To my knowledge, the modern day TGG had nothing to do with Spider & Co. It was just... very sadly accidental naming that lead to many people staying away from it for just that assumption. XD

RE: The 100: The Mush
@faraday There's some truth to your statement. But you're also, I feel, ignoring a very important part of what's being said. Its not that there's AN antagonistic character, or even A FEW antagonistic characters. Its that some people are finding (or have found, for those of us no longer/not playing) that EVERY interaction is antagonistic, often unreasonably so. So no, it won't fit EVERY character. But if you have a show that has a good dozen Bellamy's and 3 or 4 Murphy's, and those are who you consistently run into because they happen to be the active people... you're not likely going to watch that show for long since it tends to be a neverending stream of backstabbing, arguing, yelling, terribleness. If you'll notice, the show itself doesn't do that for a reason. They keep a certain, SMALL number of 'main' antagonists around. And when a new one shows up, an old one either goes away or gets killed.
See: Murphy being kidnapped and effectively disappearing during the entire Grounders intro. He shows back up to start causing trouble again right before the last big confrontation with the Grounders (at least in the early portion of the show, I frankly got bored with the neverending idiocy of the characters and stopped watching).

RE: CoD - Victorian - Penny Dreadful-ish.
@Thenomain said in CoD - Victorian - Penny Dreadful-ish.:
@Arkandel said in CoD - Victorian - Penny Dreadful-ish.:
@vanderlylle said in CoD - Victorian - Penny Dreadful-ish.:
Didn't Spider try to set up this game already? Victorian London Mage?
The people involved and the way it's implemented count a great deal more toward the success or failure of a game than its setting, IMHO.
Staff a MU* well, put thought and creativity into it, time it right and it'll probably be great whether you set it in the most generic modern US metropolis, medieval Chinese village or on the Orient Express traveling through the world.
The major difference is being inspired by the theme and providing more ready-to-use hooks for plot-runners to use. Not that these aren't more important factors, mind you.
Translation: Yes, and I hear it was pretty bad thanks to the selfish twat-oven who ran it.
Yes, it was called The Greatest Game, it was made as a 'fuck you' to TR, and was Victorian Age Mage/Proximi/Sleepwalker/Mortal. And yes, it was created and run by Spider and Shaft.

RE: The 100: The Mush
@ixokai I can say that the uncanny knack to run into all the antagonism ICly is a LARGE part of why I left the game. I have a stressful enough RL, I don't need my every interaction in a game to be some shit-slinging hatefest. There's 'conflict between PCs' and there's 'I knew it, I'm surrounded by assholes!'. When you can't step into a scene without SOMEONE going batshit insane over whatever, its no longer any fun to play a character. I was told staff would be 'monitoring' this behavior, but I left long before they started doing anything about it. And maybe my tolerance level is just running low, but given the bent of the current conversation, it looks more like my prediction was right and staff are far less likely to say anything while they're getting to have fun with what they want. Its that whole 'well I'm not having any problems, so I don't understand why you're upset' thing. What you're comfortable with and what someone else is comfortable with could be wildly different things. And hey, if you're running a game largely for your own preferences, that's your prerogative. But you should make that absolutely crystal clear from the get-go, not just shrug and wonder why people aren't having as much fun as you are.

RE: RL Anger
@Cobaltasaurus I cannot upvote this enough. Bonus points if they're both dressed in 'hip' spandex jogging shorts and oversized tanktops and running shoes. You know, clothes that you would generally associate with someone in their 20s to 30s. Anything Danskin. And as I have told MANY a customer, gray hair no longer equals age. I've had gray hairs since I was 20. I know people in their 40s and 50s that still aren't gray at all. I look at the corners of the eyes, the corners of the mouth, the neck, and the hands.

RE: RL Anger
@Cobaltasaurus Not here. People are AGGRESSIVE about it. Like they WANT you to say something so they can light into you about it. And given that Florida is one of the few states that didn't really change or take away any of their government assistance programs, there's a TON of people that are on WIC, foodstamps, cash assistance, etc. There's no shame here. Just lots and lots of entitled bitches that think they shouldn't have to bother looking up what their own benefits are, that WE should just automatically know for them.

RE: RL Anger
@Cobaltasaurus I was CSM'ing the other day when I got called over to a register. One of our cashiers had gotten a couple that apparently hadn't paid attention to all the 'WIC Approved' stickers plastered all over the small grocery section we have. They tried to pick up about $165 worth of 'WIC items'... except only about $20 of it was covered under WIC. The woman starts screaming at me about how her case worker told her she could get milk and cheese and bread and fruit and how our system must be wrong. I patiently explain to her that WIC doesn't cover just anything that falls under those categories (she'd tried to to claim that the blueberry/raspberry/blackberry and melon mixes in a plastic carton should be covered by WIC) and that she has to look at the shelves the items are on for the WIC Approved stickers to determine which items she can actually get with her WIC.
End result? She wanted us to void out anything NOT covered under WIC (about 85% of the order), so I had to abort the transaction and explain to the woman that SHE would have to take the items back to the grocery section to figure out which items were covered under WIC and which ones weren't. She yelled and threatened to 'report us' because apparently its not HER job to do that (even though its very specifically her responsibility to do exactly that).
Moral of the story: WIC and Food Stamp people are TERRIBLE to cashiers (generalization, yes, but one that I can provide TONS of evidence for). They act entitled and put upon and don't ever bother to look at what they can and can't buy with their government assistance. Best bet when coming across one of these people is just to affix a smile on your face, keep an eye on what they're trying to buy, and get them through your line as quickly as possible.

RE: RL Anger
@Cobaltasaurus Company policy. We have to do the same thing. I've had customers call me all kinds of names because they couldn't buy cigarettes or alcohol for having someone in their group that didn't bring their ID. Instead of them getting mad at the idiot that didn't bring their ID with them. I still don't get why full grown adults don't carry their ID around with them everywhere...

RE: RL Anger
@Cobaltasaurus Twice now at the service desk I have had a woman come into the store with a cart FULL of items that she 'bought for her daughter' that her daughter didn't like. She keeps saying this girl is going on a trip, but I would like to know what trip she's going on that requires multiple shopping trips made MONTHS apart. In either case, she knows that service desk closes at 10pm. Yet she routinely shows up at 9:58pm with a cart full of items to return. If you attempt to tell her no, she'll start off pleading ('Oh I didn't know, please help me out, I need this for my daughter's trip'), then move on to indignant ('The customer is supposed to come first, why aren't you helping me!'), to downright pissy ('I want to speak to your manager, this is ridiculous, you have to take my items back!'). The last time she pulled this on me, it was five minutes AFTER 10pm. There were two other girls, both of whom had a single key they were trying to return cause they accidentally brought in the wrong key to be duplicated. Because I felt bad for them, I did her damn return (almost $200 worth of clothes and shoes). By the time I finished with all of them, it was 10:30, I still had to shut down the registers AND take my claims to the back before my shift ended at 11. So I start shutting down registers and pulling garbage and stuff, getting everything ready. This woman comes BACK to the desk and insists that she needs an itemized copy of the receipt for her return because she doesn't think she 'got enough back'. I explain to her that I -cannot- reprint her receipt as a) I have taken other customers after her and b) I don't have the access to do so and c) the register that I took her on has been shut down for the night. I go through this with her for TEN MINUTES before finally losing my patience and telling her that I'm not going to print her receipt, that she got the full amount for every item she returned, and that if she wants to pull something like this then she needs to show up BEFORE the service desk is scheduled to close. So of course, she runs off to tell the closing CSM what a terrible bitch I am. Meanwhile, I continue collecting up my claims. When the CSM shows up and starts trying to harass me about it, I tell them the exact story, and then mention that if I'm held up any longer, I'm going to go over my hours for the week since her return cost me thirty minutes of time, and oh, I STILL haven't had the fifteen minute break I'm entitled to. The CSM just mutters something about not talking to customers that way and wanders off to let me finish my shit.

RE: RL Anger
@silentsophia If you take the last bag of ice from the machine up front? SAY SOMETHING.
Don't pile your cart full of items then expect me to check the prices on everything AT the register, there are price check machines in the store for that EXACT purpose!
Stop trying to price match from shady, fly-by-night site ads you got in your spam folder! We only price match from specific, reputable, companies! Even with stuff like Amazon and Best Buy and our own website we have to check to make sure its coming from the retailer and not a third party through the retailer.

RE: ROGUE: It is coming...
I believe what they're saying is that you will have the option to play Force users of both a light and dark bent. They won't necessarily be Jedi or Sith, but the concept remains the same. Also, I would put money down that Snokes has more than just Kylo Ren up his sleeve.
