'a great sword and sorcery novel'.
Not really. The author relies on a fuckton of deus ex machinas to make things work.

They have to be very close to you in order to slowly drain your soul.
@Wretched
A landlord that owns housing in Silicon Valley? Do they, by any chance, look like this:
Or maybe this:

The Crosstrek is built on an Impreza frame and uses Subaru's infamous Boxer engine.
Wait. Subaru uses boxers? I didn't realize anyone still used boxers. I may have to buy a Subaru as my next car.
@Roz
I know. I know. The trauma is still difficult to work through even after all these years, but we'll get through this together.

Oh wait! You don't like those.
@Roz
It's hard to call a black screen occasionally interrupted by the color blue a movie, but the Avatar: the Last Airbender movie.
@Roz
Unless M. Night Shyamalan is directing.
That was his twist for the movie.
@Roz's point about Republic City is a good one and Republic City is actually the basis for my idea of a fantasy island world. It's a Babylon 5/Citadel - a central hub where people from around the world/cosmos gather for a good fluff reason that doesn't break verisimilitude.
@Coin's point about having it set after the death of an Avatar so it is set that no one will be playing the Avatar is also a good one.
My understanding of the setting is that the number of airbenders are pretty low around Korra's time, so maybe set it a few generations after Korra so that the number of airbenders can be reasonably increased, that way airbender PCs won't be seen as very special/strange.
@Goblin
It depends on how well-known the relationship was. If they were public and open about being lovers, other characters are going to know that and could possibly bring it up in RP. If it was on the secret dalliance, then you could get away with never mentioning it.
@nyctophiliac
Who needs RP when you have adorable basset hounds to play with?
Who needs socks when you have warm snuggly basset hounds to lay at your feet?
Boris was doing you a favor by reminding you of what's truly important - droopy doggos.

All persons having business before the Dishonorable, the Court of Public Opinion of the United States, are admonished to draw near and give their attention, for the Court is now watching TV. Neilsen Ratings save the United States and this Dishonorable Court.
I think there are some European countries where the names and faces of the accused cannot be aired. I would like to see that in the US, but someone would throw a First Amendment challenge at it and win.
As far as LGBTQIA diversity goes, I think there can be a mix of "This character IS gay" or "This character IS asexual" and "This character has vague hints of towards their sexuality but it's up to you, the player, to decide which way to go."
I was somewhat disappointed that Arx's fealties were drawn from mostly European cultures, rather than a broader spectrum (East Asia-inspired Crownlands? Africa-inspired Oathlands? Polynesian Mourning Isles?), but with the lands across the sea having some of those themes, I understand why.
Another possible solution is incentivizing with xp. "We have these particular types of characters underrepresented right now. Make one and get a 50 xp bonus." However, I feel this would just get abused by people creating a stereotypical caricature just to reap the xp bonus. Whereas, a roster character has been created by staff, so should be more of a character than a bad joke.
Alright, time for serious post.
I wonder if a roster game would be better at increasing representation in MU*s. If your server is an all-human cast and divided the characters equally between different races, would you see more non-white characters played, or would people choose not to play?
