Which one has the most activity Alzie?

RE: To dice or not to dice?
Dice prevent the "I hit you!","Nahuh I blocked it with my laser gauntlet!", "Nah uh I'm faster than you!" arguments.

RE: Nepotism versus restricted concepts
Is this thread still a thing?
A couple people think it's a good idea, most of us think it's a terrible idea and the reasonings behind it (It's a play! Theater! I'm a director and my word is law!!! Or the I trust my friends and know them better than random peoples!) are terrible and the other side think they're reasonable and in the right.
Reading this, nobody is being convinced of anything.

RE: Which MU* telnet clients are still popular?
Sometimes for the flashing text setting the server display to color256! (or whatever that command is) will fix it.
Not sure about the overlapping text. It appears to pick random words/sentences to overlap. Most will appear fine but in each paragraph theres a bit that overlaps, if you select it, like you're going to ctrl-c it, it desplays normally.

RE: Which MU* telnet clients are still popular?
Mudlet doesn't like...something...All kinds of flashing text and overlapping text and none of the fixes work.
I just use Zmud because at least I know that works.

Mudhost.net turnaround?
Maybe someone here who uses them/has used them knows the turnaround to hearing back in either the affirmative or the negative about having a server hosted?
I understand it's the holidays, I'm just trying to get a figure on it.

RE: A Post-Mortem for Kingsmouth

After a possible reboot announcement by an old staff member...
"
A question was asked of me, asking where the game would be rebooted: Either here with this place with the same connection info and setting, or somewhere else? Well, my initial thought was to restart the game in-place here. RfK has a TON of systems, code, and areas in place and it would be a shame to toss it all away. I read somewhere on the Internet that no other Vampire Themed MUSH offers as robust of in-game systems that RfK does. And this pleases me greatly. However if there is concern about old, salty staff or players coming back to muck up our fun, then I can capture a complete dump of the game's database and move it elsewhere. If we keep the game here or move the game database, I will take control over #1 (The Pennmush God), and de-wiz all current +staff. I'll also immediately set up rules and expectations of my immortal (Wizard) staff as that seems to be the sticking point as to why this game closed in the first place.
I'd like to call a meeting to whomever is reading this message. You're invited to my party. I'll provide the drinks (Bwahahaa).
I'll be available online on this mush on Monday, December 14th. The meeting will officially be held at 1PM Pacific Time (GMT -8).Hope to see you all then.

While your litany of staff corruption is certainly educational, it doesn't really change the point that nobody ever needs to conform to doing something a certain way just because some people before fucked it up. As mentioned, every game has problems, and there's no set definition as to what counts as 'staff corruption' or not.
For example, say I have an RL friend come onto a game I'm running. I'm well aware that they're informed as to the sphere they're playing in, they're responsible, invested, etc. And they ask to play a restricted concept. I give it to them, because I trust them to run it. I made a judgment call based on my knowledge and experience. Some people would call that a good idea, because I know that this person will behave in a certain manner. Some will flail their arms and scream 'nepotism favoritism cheating motherfucking bastard' because I dared to give someone I know and have ample experience with something shiny. Perspective is important, but at the end of the day, the game is what the game-runner decides it is, and other people can get on board with that or not.
As far as the soup kitchen analogy, perhaps they do. But do they have an absolute right to demand that something change in order to appease them when they're getting something for free, from someone else who cares enough to provide it, when they couldn't provide it for themselves? I say no. Bitchy people exist everywhere. That doesn't mean that the world has to bow to their demands. Games are no different.
I thin you're in a minority as far as 'People who would think this is a good idea.' Regardless of if you know this person or not, allowing them something restricted to your players just cause they're your friend and you know them, isn't fair to your players.
I've seen it time and time again on Mushes, tabletop games, LARPS it's always "I know them and trust them..." and next thing you know the rogue is stealing everyones gold, killing people in their sleep and hiding behind the DM when anyone IC reacts going "But I'M a rogue, you're not!"
Or running around playing a Trujah...

RE: Experiments
The log thing I agree, probably won't work. Mushers are a unique breed where if the quality of RP isn't somewhere around the same level among all players than criticism is generally unwelcome.
Logs wouldn't work on City of Hope, because the rp there can be super terrible in the hangout scenese, but in a more insoler rp with a smaller population is might work..If you have a unique, mature, rare group of people.
Kingsmouth did a weekly rp matching list put out by the staff and you got extra XP if you and your match managed to play. It worked out well for a bit too.

RE: A Post-Mortem for Kingsmouth
What are you talking about? The God Wars game I ran in like 1998..or so was perfect with the four people who played! PERFECT!

RE: A Post-Mortem for Kingsmouth
I've gotten word from some other players that my New York project isn't the only one. Apparently one old staff and a few players have another, nother project. I'll let y'all know bout it when /I/ know more.

RE: A Post-Mortem for Kingsmouth
I don't think the old wiki has a lot of the custom bloodlines and stuff. I'll go check it out tomorrow if he doesn't report back. I wonder if we can get Alzie to make a torrent or something of the backup so we can poke around it for those of us with projects similiar/using the system.

What's this Eclipse Phase thingy everyones talking about?

RE: A Post-Mortem for Kingsmouth
I had one player who had been there as one of the longest players tell me "It was implied it was closing, but no-one ever told me it was until it actually did" sooo...
It's not even important anymore. It's closed, I've moved on since...

New York, but don't get into street-level minutiae. Build the boroughs and neighborhoods and set them up in areas; don't do 'A and 1st,' do 'Alphabet City' and such. It makes doing things on grid, and mapping as a staffer, so much easier. So what your saying is do like, Brooklyn then have folks have their havens and businesses off that but don't to individual streets?
I think this makes absolute sense.

RE: Repository for nWoD code base?
I always appreciate when theres a free exchange of information. You're awesome. I'll look around.

RE: Repository for nWoD code base?
Awesome thanks. Now for a lot of reading. I'm sure getting this stuff up and stable on a windows box for testing isn't going to be fun.

Repository for nWoD code base?
Hi, I hear people occasionally talk about the different publicly available mush codes for nWoD games along with little snippets of different functionality. Is there a place to look at and grab these to mess around with?
I'm considering trying to get a New York themed Vampire sphere game up, but I'd like to mess around for a while first.
