RE: Lords and Ladies Game
@Thenomain
Don't clutter up threads with gigantic images that aren't somehow an insult to you. It's boring. -
RE: Good TV
I'm watching Deadly Class. It's about teenagers in a school for assassins, set in 1987. It is not anime/animated, but there is a Japanese girl that's the leader of the kids with Yakuza parents, so take that with a grain of salt.
Character A: That ho Brandy was my white whale until I broke through the Mason-Dixon line.
Character B: Wait, Brandy is your girlfriend?
Character A: What the f- Hell no. She's a Nazi, Marcus. That's not girlfriend material. -
RE: Consent in Gaming
Almost none of the stupid MUSH games you people are playing have actual code to bind a character and lock them in the room with someone particularly odious - so if something is making you uncomfortable IC - leave. If it's making you uncomfortable OOC - leave even faster. If what they're doing is abusive or game-breaking - screenshot it - then leave!
Consent in gaming is a very separate creature from consent in real life, and while I understand that a lot of times people get in their feelings and need others to slam the brakes on their enjoyment because of their niche issues, the idea of having to OOCly play therapist to people who could just leave or else I'm a bad, insensitive, impatient person is fucking insane.
Remember when roleplaying used to be roleplaying, and organic RP happened without being pre-screened and pre-scripted, and none of us died from keeping it IC?
I miss those days.

RE: Lords and Ladies Game
@Thenomain Please post about your pet peeves somewhere more appropriate; you're creating a new derail in response to the original one you were just bitching about. Talk about double standards.
Back on topic, I was just speaking to someone about how it can be hard to get into the swing of things on political games, if you're coming in late, or playing a character that wasn't much of a mover or shaker before you took them off the roster, but your interests lie in the social arena. I'm not a shy player, but what sort of advice would you all give someone trying to get involved without having to poke/prod people OOCly?

RE: Good TV
@surreality Same! It sounded like trash, I was literally looking for something to put me to sleep. Did not expect this to be so good. Also, after a shower and a tie, Marcus is adorable.

That one guy that got beaten to death on Firan
Terrible name for a thread, I know.
There was this one time some noble kid got his ass kicked by some chick in the military and due to an unfortunate roll of the dice, he dropped dead. Anyone remember who that guy was or who played him? Lemme know.

RE: Consent in Gaming
@Apos Agreed - more code is my answer to just about anything/everything. But if a game (most games) don't have a coded way to force you to remain in a scene, it's seems a bit far-fetched to make consent into some big thing when there are more obvious issues at play than consent, for example a lack of Block-A-Motherfucker
code. Blocking people is wonderful and I advise everyone to try it.

RE: RL Anger
When someone is both incorrect AND pandering, publicly accusing you of being 'confused' by a topic. And then you point out how and why they're wrong, and you get silence instead of any sort of admission of their mistake or for talking to you like you're stupid. It's these thoughtless little microaggressions that become one more straw on the camel's back.

RE: Groth's Playlist
You might grind my gears on MSB, but I enjoyed every interaction I had with Andry and will miss seeing flashback updates from him now.

RE: Cyberrun
I realize that in this thread at least your stance is more anti-pedophile than pro-child-protection, which is a perfectly valid stance but no one here seems to be advocating for pedophilia in the slightest. But for you and anyone else curious, if you view the page source on Cyberrun's homepage, you'll see:

For anyone curious about how sites like Google use these tags

It's 10am, the moving truck will be here at 2pm, and my crippling laziness won't let me finish the last of this packing.

@RightMeow Ikr? It's almost like the name Pandora existed before the streaming service or something.

RE: RL things I love
@surreality Man, I hated NJ taxes until I had my kid and that EIC kicked in. Take my money all year, it's fine. I'm terrible at saving, I just consider my refund money in the bank. Though if we actually earned interest on the amount NJ 'borrows' from us annually, we could all probably retire early. It's criminal, really.

Please never ask me to listen to anything though, I can't get those 2-5 minutes back so the answer will always be no, and I will resent you for making me crush your fleeting hope.No. Luckily I don't like you and can deny you anything without guilt.

RE: RL things I love
My new humidifier/aroma diffuser is life. I have two guinea pigs and they are adorable, but the smell of hay is strong and not entirely in keeping with the zen of my study where they live. Enter the diffuser. No more incense making my eyes water and having to light them throughout the day, ashes everywhere. No more candles with their open flame I can't leave burning when I'm not in the room. Add water and a few drops of essential oil, and it runs silently for 6 hours sending out a VISIBLE mist of calming loveliness. (As for the emphasis on visible, I'm one of those people that likes to be able to 'see' something is working.)
I don't know how or why I've been stuck on candles and incense all this time, technology is amazing.

RE: TS - Danger zone
If your character hits on a character related to them, you'll discover pretty quickly whether or not they're into that sort of thing. If you come on too hard, you may find out much more vehemently than you'd like, so my advice is to keep it IC and treat it with the level of cautious exploration that such a taboo subject warrants.
Same with hardcore BDSM elements, it's fun to slowly build up to these relationships or conversations IC & again - if you come on too hard and fast from 0 to 100 on this, you'll likely find yourself on the wrong end of creep accusations because that's the nature of the beast, so treat the subject with all due caution.
Rape is harder for me to comment on. I don't like talking to people much OOC, and since most characters are not looking to be raped, it's generally an OOC desire & thus I don't have any actual experience here.

RE: Game of Thrones
@Cupcake I saw that, she's so talented, it's amazing. I hope she goes really far in her career and keeps that wide-eyed humbleness for as long as she can, it's totally endearing.
@bored said in Game of Thrones:
If as the viewer you think 'oh wow they're dead for sure' as the camera pans away, then the next appearance of those characters should confirm what happened, either reaffirming what you saw (someone discovers bodies, mourns their loss later) or explaining how they in fact managed to not be dead. Failing to do that is an error.
I believe the implication of 'Oh wow they're dead for sure' followed by their not being dead is that they managed to overcome the odds, deflecting a stab here, dodging a bite there, running away, etc. You know, kind of what they were doing when you thought they might die, and what they were doing the next time you saw them as well?
Like, I agree that we're all entitled to our opinions, don't get me wrong. But I definitely wanted to see all the many and varied situations and and moments of imperilment shown - which they would not have been able to do if they'd hand-held us through explanations of how famed swordsmen and women used their swords to not die.

RE: TS - Danger zone
This won't please some people to hear, but I'm not in the business of holding my tongue.
There's a lot of grief heaped on people who don't seek OOC pre-consent for RP of questionable topics, and this fails to address the fact (not supposition, but fact) that there are and always will be players that want these types of RP to be spontaneous, that want to be able to say 'No, no' while thinking 'Yes', that want to be able to safely experience the thrill/horror/joy/disgust from their well-lit bedroom desk hidden behind an anonymous screen from which they can walk away at any point if they so choose.
I'm not arguing against the idea that it'd be healthier for them to be able to OOCly say 'I want X', I'm just saying that for some, that takes the excitement out of it in ways I'd imagine are similar to if a scary movie flashed a warning on the screen to let you know a jump-scare is coming. The same way the ominous music is a low-key warning something is about to happen so you might want to cover your eyes and peek through your fingers, most RP of a 'problematic' nature tends to have a build-up to it during which you can measure and weigh your options and decide if this is right for you.
There is no one-size-fits-all for consent in fiction, what's important is to know your own limits/boundaries and enforce them to your own level of comfort. No one can force anyone to RP anything. I repeat, no one can force anyone to RP anything. They may try, but your keyboard + mouse + mental well-being are in your hands, literally.
