My internet has been unreliable to the point of non-use all weekend. In typical First World Fashion, I am seriously upset about this and it feels like the end of the world; I'm going to have to go back to work tomorrow and feel like my weekend was a waste, because I didn't get to do much of what I wanted to do at all.

RE: TS - Danger zone
@Rinel Logging into a game with strangers is a conscious choice and the decision to do so should be made with the consideration of the fact that you cannot control what other people choose to type, and whether or not you are in the correct head-space to deal with the fact that people are going to type things you disagree with, from mild annoyances to Mayday alarm bells.
You can be vulnerable and still maintain responsibility for yourself and your choices, to say otherwise is to rob people of their own sense of agency. It is not the job of the internet to babysit you. There is a difference between 'I did not like that, please don't do it again.' and 'I did not like that, you are a horrible person & I will now proceed to tell everyone to cancel you because despite not breaking any game rules, you've upset me and must pay.'
The difference between what I said and what Mrs Reagan said is that I am not denying anyone their hurt, I am denying anyone the right to decide that the way to avoid being hurt is to disallow everyone from writing anything that could possibly hurt them.
The difference between being held at gunpoint in real life and being held at gunpoint in roleplay is that in one, you are flesh and bone and in danger. In the other, you can log off and go make a cup of tea. You do not have to roleplay anything, ever.
I have no interest in pretending people aren't coerced, I don't know where you got that idea. Even pre-obtained consent can be coerced from someone trying to be a good sport, or desperate to be liked, or anxious about ruining someone else's fun.

@Pandora here's the thing though. If a person knows that they are not going to be comfortable without negotiated cliff notes before they engage, it really isnt IMO asking for babysitting for them to ask that of someone. The someone can then decide if that price of admission is worth it or not.
Again, agreed 100%. I am not knocking anyone's pre-consents; as I said previously, you have to know what works for you, where your boundaries lie, and make sure you are comfortable. I'm just saying it's not fair or reasonable to expect everyone to do this, because everyone has their own level of comfort with OOC conversation/negotiation.
I may not initiate OOC contact with anyone (my preference) but I'm always happy to listen if someone has something to say/ask/request OOCly & if it seems they're being unreasonable I run it by staff to see if I'm just being irritable (Usually it's a little of both.)

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
That moment when there's a spider on your wall and you're like 'I'm such a good person for letting that little guy live, I'm going to ignore him and we'll both live our best lives.'
And then the next time you look up, it's decided to park on the ceiling right over your head so you have to kill it because it's clearly aggro.

TS with NPCs or during PrPs. Where do you stand on this? What I'm thinking is PrPs involving one ST and one player but y'all might surprise me.
Admittedly only on Shangrila, but I've definitely ran gangbangs for 1-2 players.
That's not a gangbang.
I assume if it's being run, that means there are NPCs + the 1-2 players, so it is a gangbang.

RE: Good TV
I've been brushing up on my conversational Mandarin and there's no better way to do that than binging dramas on Line TV, naturally. This hilarious line from History 3: Trapped nearly caused a spit-take, just considering the recent wave of apologies lately, from government officials and just in general.

RE: TS - Danger zone
If you think anyone prone to playing favorites isn't playing favorites with or without TS, I'd like to borrow those rose-tinted glasses. Any staffer or ST prone to fucking PCs with their NPCs isn't likely to defend the choice in this thread, so this isn't even a balanced debate so much as an echo chamber.

Do you disagree that if no one is currently seeking RP with this NPC, that the player behind it should be free to do what they want with it, provided it is not some shared NPC?
No. If nobody is seeking RP with it, it shouldn't be used. It's a tool, not another PC.
ETA: Allow me to explain my view further. When you are using an NPC, as I have defined them previously, to roleplay, you are at work. You are performing a job. An NPC can, ICly, bang whomever or whatever. A person in charge of that NPC does not need to typefuck at people for that to have happened. TS is a luxury, not a necessity of the job.
You want to typefuck? Do it on your own time, not when you're using a game resource. In this case, 'your own time' is literally logging into your own PC to do it.
Ah, so this is a game-specific thing for you. Because there are plenty of games where NPCs are just powerful staff alts or powerful characters handed to an ST for a plot or arc, during which time they are not playing any PCs and are charged with spicing up the grid and handing out plot nuggets and interacting with the masses in general.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
Cancel Culture is trendy but so damn uncool, man. It's the pastime of people who desperately need to belong to something, anything. If people spent more time 'cancelling' the people in their real, actual lives that ain't worth shit instead of internet-proselytizing about people that don't give a damn about their raggedy ass, the world would be a happier place.

RE: TS - Danger zone
This is why NPCs don't play grab ass with you people, you're annoying as hell.

You are, and that's okay. People who understand the words I typed get it.
Oh, no, in that example you're just being stupid. I agree with the general idea that people shouldn't seek to ban or otherwise prohibit works, but the quote you offered doesn't attempt to do that.
Your opinion is noted.

RE: The ethics of IC romance, TS, etc
I would love to know what people are doing on MUSHes that require such privacy. The worst I can think of is like, scandalously hot TS or something, but even then it's just erotic fiction, we've all been there, seen that. I'm not opining that it's bad to want privacy, not to worry. I'm just saying I find it curious and amusing & I know that when I'm SRing and people ask me to watch their RP, they tend to go above and beyond with their writing, storytelling, and player cooperation.

There's a difference between "It's not a name I intend to pass on to future generations" and "Nobody should ever at all ever mention this person again ever." The former is fine, if stupid. The latter is bad.
Censorship begins with someone's personal views on a work or body of works. Like I said though, your opinion is noted. We're not in the Hog Pit, I'm not going to derail the conversation getting into why arguing with someone calling everyone's opinions stupid is not a great use of my time.

RE: The ethics of IC romance, TS, etc
Well, when I say spy, I mean 'watch what you're doing without being in the same grid space as you', not 'watch you without your knowledge'. I think in this day and age, it's not a huge leap to say that the owners of online spaces where people interact are taking on much more liability. Spying (with everyone's knowledge and consent) just seems to make good sense, cutting down on settling the entire burden of proof on victims' heads, or stopping cyberbullying in its tracks. If you want to rage against the machine (staff) do it on Discord. Or yenno, MSB. Not the server someone is gracious enough to allow you to log into for free.

Censorship also takes power and enforcement. I have my personal views on art, and I wouldn't make recommendations that go against those views. That is not, in any way, the same as saying that nobody can view art I disapprove of.

Obviously OP is not the gatekeeper of the world's literary access, but this is the sentiment expressed and espoused by those who celebrate Cancel Culture and pretend they haven't seen in oppressive regimes what the end result of such behaviors is.
Emphasis mine.
ETA: Like, I added that preface to the sentence because I thought to myself, "Self, someone is going to make the nonsensical accusation that I am saying OP can single-handedly rain down book-burnings and op-ed bannings, better make sure to close up that loophole." I am a failure.

RE: The ethics of IC romance, TS, etc
Firan staff spied on people IC/OOC and used/abused the info they gleaned on their characters, as well as sharing 'funny' snippets of IC/OOC conversations with others. That's gross imo, crossing the line from watching-to-make-things-better to watching-to-make-things-worse.
