you will also get crap like Jim Bob was mean ICly, Janet didn't rp her character right, Paulie and George argued about some rule on the channel and it annoyed me etc.

I have been on the receiving end of ooc rantings and threats because someone did not like how my character behaved, and for that reason alone I won't let such a system be implemented on my game. If people have a problem, log and file a complaint. If folks don't feel safe talking to staff, they shouldn't be playing there, imo.

it would be nice if society would stop telling men they're evil because they're biologically wired to get a stiffy and are incapable of controlling it.

Nobody knows about your stiffy unless you act like a dick about it. The insistence on acting out is the problem. Besides, society, more often than not, still rewards men who do, even if more folks have started bitching about it.

@Gilette My game has been getting a steady influx of first-time MUSHers, either mudders who are bringing friends over, or forum rpers converting over, or people getting real life friends to learn. I have been pleasantly surprised because I was starting to worry that we'd end up just cannibalising from the same general playerbase. Out of about 80 players, I'd hazard a about a dozen or two have us as their first game.

I'm allergic to legumes: beans, peanuts, etc. Specifically, I'm allergic to proteins in the seeds. The proteins are mostly eliminated through brewing, and don't exist in the oil; soy sauce is fine and so is peanut oil. However, isolated soy protein is in a lot of things, especially store-bought, pre-packaged frozen meats.

I know this is about something else, but oh my god I feel you. Two kinds of abdominal pain have been the worst in my life: when my football sized tumor burst, and when I have anything with soy protein/tvp/soy protein isolate.

@Arkandel I am personally ok with most things except where the other party avoids all consequence for what they want to do to mine.

But yes, I recentlyish went along with a thing IC, but then got browbeaten ooc when my character discussed the incident with others. Folks need to remember that IC things don't just end when one scene ends, and imo ask for a one-off with a redshirt type character; and also that you can't control the impression you give others IC about what happened.

I probably will never again consent to scenes like that if it's a staff-alt, either. Then again, since I also got punished for ooc refusing to go along with a non-con scenario, I dunno. It all put me off MUSHing on games I don't run, since there a staffer can't retaliate if I don't become their dubcon bitch.

It frustrates me that people need to complicate this. If folks were just considerate, they'd get more of what they want. I'm really accomodating.

Just leave an option to specify 'negotiable' and not just 'yes' or 'no' to a +prefs system, because me setting my prefs to allowing 'dark themes' on WoD games led to me getting rapey (physical and mental) stuff sprung on me by players AND staff, and then backlash when I expressed reservations ooc.

Apparently negotiating this so both parties are ok with it is a novel concept.

Back in the day, I was asked by a friend to run a graphic and squicky scene (not non-con or dubcon, however) for her that she'd scripted out pretty thoroughly.

She just really wanted my character to do specific things to hers, posed in my style. It wasn't my kink, but I was familiar with it, so it was all good: I'd been asked by staff to play a villain because I don't get too fussed ooc about that and am happy to accomodate and negotiate ooc.

So I did. I was there for her afterward and let her talk about it and wind down. She loved it. She dreamed about it. And then she reported me to staff because it subsequently triggered deep feelings of guilt and self-loathing and I 'should have known better to enable' her. She 'no longer felt safe' around me because I was willing to RP it.

I got bitched out by staff, until I produced the log of her requesting everything and lobbying me pretty hardcore. I still got shit for it as 'proof' that playing a bad guy meant I must be a predator.

To this day, I refuse to ever again be the dominant partner in several types of scenarios, without exception. The retaliation was so unpleasant that I refuse to even risk that kind of reaction ever again.

So, about potentially-triggering scenarios: if it's my character playing the heavy, I clear everything ooc and scrupulously avoid certain things. If I am on the receiving end, ask me first and accept that I might refuse; too often people have a script that reduces you to a mere accessory and doesn't account the damage to your character's psyche. And don't bitch if my character responds in ways that you can't dictate.

Sexual assault being deemed a pre-existing condition was the case before the ACA, and so will be again if states claim the waiver exempting them from having to insure those with pre-existing conditions.

So if you ever had to seek medical help because of an assault, you may be disqualified.

You cannot smoke weed in public in Nevada or California, either. You can possess it but not smoke/consume it on public property.

That never stops anyone in Nevada. Anywhere you go, it reeks. I'm a paraplegic who is also recovering from cancer, so I attract every well-meaning/profiteering potheads within visual range.

"So yeah, man, um, I'm taking signups for medical marijuana cards..."
      "Thanks, but I don't smoke."
"But like you can sign up..."
      "No, thank you!"
"But like pot is great for cancer and pain..."
"I know, but I'm really allergic to pot."
      "You're allergic to pot?"
      "Yes."
      "But pot is natural!"
"Yeah, well, basil is natural and I'm allergic to that, too."
      "Like, allergic to everything?"
      "Yes."
      "Edibles?"
      "Yes."
      "But there are low-thc strains-"
"Not the THC. The whole plant."
      "But CBD-"
      "That too."
"But CBD is good for cancer!"
"Yeah, it woulda been nice during chemo, but I like breathing, too."
      "But CBD."
"All pot products give me anaphylaxis. Even hemp gives me anaphylaxis. I can't drink hemp milk. I can't even touch hemp twine. Yes, even CBD."
      "But..."
"This is why I hate pot smokers, jfc. Also, you smell like cat piss. Even if I wasn't allergic, I wouldn't want to smell like cat piss."

I had this argument twice last night.

Edit: For some reason, even when I tell them I responded very well to chemo, I still get told to drop it in favor of natural alternatives. I have had to drop so many friends because of their insistence that I should risk anaphylaxis for CBD instead of chemo, alkaline water instead of chemo, turmeric instead of chemo, ginger and lemon instead of chemo, etc. This is all bad and deadly advice. Bit pot smokers are the WORST about it.

Plus, some of the 'juices' for vapes smell downright horrendous.

Like, same category there as people who drown themselves in perfume or cologne.

I'm allergic to pot, tobacco and cologne and most vaping fragrances, and I live in a state where people smoke and/or douse themselves in that stuff. I had to give up playing gigs because I got anaphylaxis anytime I played a set in a club. 😕 Now that I work outside, I still have to breathe it and my lungs and throat are trash at the end of the night.

People have no idea how far their malodorous shit carries, and it's not like I can choose not to get sick from it.

Pot in particular has gotten nastier in the last decade.

    • RE: What does advancement in a MU* mean to you?

In a statless game, it might be about a promotion, or at least a job/status that my character wants. In RP, scenes that challenge the character, or at least lead to more insights (about themselves, others, etc). Becoming useful to their group/court/weyr/liege/etc, and making personal connections.

On a statted game, all this plus getting to increase/acquire abilities and their effectiveness.

Edit: even if everyone is an xp monster, you can differentiate yourself via rp, cooperativeness, writing style, etc.

@Thenomain Sorry for adding to it! It might have struck a nerve for folks because it's a clear example of a player trying to jerk a game's theme around, and for some reason people don't want to just outright say 'no' (for fear of criticism).

    • RE: Course Corrections

I don't see why it's necessary to feel like you have to (be the one to) 'advance' a game's technology. They wanted a pre-gun setting, go join a game with guns, or start one, instead of trying to force that kind of theme change (slow or not). You can affect things as a player without needing to do that, why the fixation?

My characters tend to use guns on games where they're available, but I don't feel the need to push that on games where they don't yet exist. Society doesn't need to advance that rapidly on a MUSH (especially real-time ones), and the concept of society needing to advance or to advance via gunpowder is unnecessary and arbitrary. Societies stay pretty similar for hundreds or thousands of years, why is NOW (at present MUSH time) suddenly necessary?

IMO, staff just need to say, 'No, that's not our theme and we're not interested,' if that's the case, and it's a reasonable answer.
