      status migrainosis

What do they call it when you've had the same migraine attack for 1-2 weeks?
Each migraine I get breaks roughly that often. I get a day off for every 1-2 weeks of pain.

That's the part that's worrying me. The 'mini-stroke' symptoms are becoming more frequent.

Honestly, as someone who suffers both migraines and cluster headaches (and is closing in on two weeks of cluster right now), that sounds terribly familiar. If it is a cluster, oxygen treatments might (but not definitely) help.

It still isn't normal migraine, so be very careful.

You have my sympathy, either way. From down in my own pit of pain, I offer a magic space tiara and the key to a hidden room of silent darkness.

This sounds like my own bout of cluster headaches, from the stroke symptoms to them lasting 5 days out of 7. This lasted for a few years, and while they decreased after my cancer surgery (my tumor was so big that it messed with my blood pressure), the worst one (stroke symptoms, massive visual disturbances) happened a few months afterward.

If anything is fucking with your blood pressure/the side and back of your neck (slipped discs, hypermobility), or your temple (trigeminal nerve, endocrine problems), or meds, thst could be triggering clusters. I still get flares if I am under stress. Edit: TMJ too.

... but when people continue to pose in past tense around a bunch of people using present tense, is it just sloppy? Is it a passive aggressive fuck you?

It is probably because they are terrible writers with a lack of self-awareness.

They are usually transplants from forum or LJ type games, and are getting used to MUSH, in my experience. Eventuslly some folks get the hang of it, though it's tough to switch if you are still rping in both formats.

Had to move hours again for work.
Mostly just been laying in bed. Ordered food in because just standing for short periods of time is difficult.

A part of me wonders if I can walk into the hospital and go 'I'm done taking care of myself for a while. It's your turn.'

If you can afford it, why not? That is a reasonable point at which to go.

Except I really can't. No PTO with my job.

      Damn. :< ❤

Yeah. Nothing is perfect, and no game will ever be perfect. People will always bitch; I try to tell folks to play a game based on what it is rather than what you would like.

Do your best, treat people empathetically, do staff jobs in a timely manner, and listen to genuine criticism. If the game fizzles, well, that happens. Most of them eventually do, good and bad alike.

Don't feed the trolls by letting the wrongfun police drive you off. Give yourself and the people who want this gane to work what y'all want, not the folks who want to tear you down.

Taking a younger friend to a Korean BBQ place for the first time and informing them that they have to pour my Soju with both hands and look away when I am drinking otherwise they'll be breaching ancient rites of Korean restaurant etiquette. I swear if you've never done this you've got to try it. Endlessly entertaining.

There's one just around the corner from my house, and a meat coma sounds so good right now.

@Arkandel while I was training my service dog, a rhodie/basenji/staffie mix, kids would lunge at her and grab her, and their parents would just laugh. To this day, she growls at kids until she is properly introduced. Never a bite (she warns but she doesn't want to use her teeth), but I always intercede.

Drunk guys also lunge and try to grab her, so taking her out in public requires a lot of blocking weirdos from manhandling my dog. She's apparently just that appealing. So was our golden, but people never tried to grab him.

@EmmahSue said in Roleplaying writing styles:

Inasmuch as I haven't posed in a minute, I try v. hard to keep all 5 senses in mind at all times. We live in a layered 4D world, yo!

Also, just because I-the-writer have complete control over what text goes on the screen doesn't mean I-the-PC has complete control over what's happening in the scene; that is to say, include things that your PC might be doing to betray hidden or unconscious thoughts and motives.

OOC insertions in poses are only okay if you're making fun of yourself.

And whoever said above that telepathy (if you don't actually have the power) is lazy is correct. Write better poses that allow for interpretation and don't shove your character's thoughts at me in a way I can't respond-to. I don't have telepathy, so I can't hear that shit, and if I can't hear it, I don't want to read it. It's superfluous and becomes more about some external third-party view of the scene, rather than the interplay between people involved in it.

There are exceptions to every rule.

      ES

Yeah. I will sometimes give more of an omniscient narrative if the character opposite mine has a reason for the insight (especially if it's a familiar friend, very empathetic person, my character is being really transparent, etc); other times I'll give only external cues, when it makes more sense to be more enigmatic-- first meetings, good composure rolls, etc.

I try, as the narrator, to poke fun at my characters whenever I can. I stay hands-off on other characters, though, for the usual meta reasons.

    • RE: Innovations to the form (Crowdsourcing?)

@Arkandel Fear And Loathing kind of does, yeah. Our villain bits are called Heavies, they are played by STs (who can be players) and are statted like the Guest Stars (higher-powered characters with restrictions) you mentioned-- but they are ONLY used for that PrP (and future iterations), and they can pkill only as part of that PrP.

And yes, so far it's been working fine. Players have been responsible about following the guidelines, and offering leadership and mentoring without stomping on folks. We've been monitoring things as well, and have only rarely needed to suggest and clarify things to Guest Stars to help keep folks on track.

I'm exiting the thread, but I want to let it be said that when someone who's made a post seeking constructive input that she's worked hard on, for a game idea, getting nitpicked until she says "fuck it" and walks away, leaving the rest of us to look forward to the upcoming games run by the people who henpecked her to death...is not constructive.

Just shows me where I won't play (or recommend); but also, there is still too much WORA mentality splashing shit all over folks who just want to have fun.

I suggest to surreality to open her game anyway, since the best response imo is to have a successful game. I did, and it's been great.

I don't really expect to see a lot of takers on those for PCs, mind... but 'stupendously creepy more or less vampire monster fishperson' is neat enough that even if there are only NPCs of them ever made to smite in sheer horror, they'll be fun for that purpose!

I love playing that type of character. I haven't recently, and I miss it. They're kind of hard to take out for casual rp, but that's what alts or, er, fish out of water scenes are for.

@ThatGuyThere I can't drink either, for medical reasons. I did back in the 90s some, but only socially. It might be confirmation bias, though, but I agree with you.

Partly some of it is broader gamer culture being kinda macho and bro-y, while MUSHing is really not. OTOH writer culture kind of glorifies the single-spirit swilling fedora type, and I've run into a few of mushers who styled themselves that way.

I really miss irish cream, though.
