RE: MU Things I Love
@Meg said in MU Things I Love:
super well-thought out
Haha, I was scrambling for prizes like twenty minutes before it started and thought I came up with shitty last minute things. But everyone loved them! I was most shocked that the book I threw together, which I was certain would be one of those things where someone just ended up with it rather than picking it, was chosen by the second place person. Whew!

When you don't get a huge turnout for an event but the people that do show up are super enthusiastic and it all goes exactly according to plan!

RE: How to Approach (nor not) a Suspected Creep
If it is a legitimately known creeper I will page the person. This has only come up once with a new female PC and I did it after the scene had ended to be like hey, you do what you want, but just so you know this guy is pretty notorious for going after someone hard IC then asking them for nudes OOC and I don't want it to scare you off the game if it happens.
She thanked me and said that yeah, he'd already paged her some really weird things and it was good to know that she should just avoid him. I think I then said something like he'd already been reported to staff at least once so PLEASE to report it if things got too inappropriate for her.
He eventually got banned for being a creeper.

RE: Why We Don't Make New Friends Anymore (Or Creepers Do Creepy Things)
I've met a lot of fellow mushers over the years in the US, UK, and Canada, and in all but two situations they've all been fine. This was back when meetups were pretty common and in my group of friends I was the one everyone invited over to meet their parents to show them that see, the people they talked to on the computer were perfectly normal! Honestly I have a lot of great memories from the good old days. Except for these two:
The first I went to visit someone I'd been playing with for years and he was cool and I met his girlfriend and we all hung out and had a fun time and then on the way to the airport he was like this wasn't how I thought things would go I was thinking maybe we'd end up having sex in a phone booth or something and I was like oh look I'll just get out here. Pretty sure I barely talked to him after that it so freaked me out.
The other I went with my then boyfriend to meet up with another couple we mushed with. My PC was in a romantic relationship with the guy's PC, but it's all IC so whatever. The meeting was kind of coincidental as it turned out we were all just going to be at the same event that weekend. So we get there and we meet up with them and we shake hands like normal people and the wife in the other couple goes "Handshakes?! I thought for sure with these two it would be hugging and making out!"
It was so awkward and we got out of there quick.

RE: Hickson @ Arx
I never recognize him and I always tend to have like two scenes with him and then be like "this guy seems nice" to the point now where if I have a scene with a new person and they seem fine I'm like "probably Cullen."
But in this case two or three people warned me about Hickson.

I never had acne at all until after my last pregnancy. It absolutely killed my thyroid and knocked my hormones all over the place and they never went back to normal. Thanks, baby!

RE: The ethics of IC romance, TS, etc
@Arkandel said in The ethics of IC romance, TS, etc:
Which parts of being in IC relationships, be they romantic and/or sexual or even otherwise, bind the players as well as the characters?
I think it really just boils down to: are you having fun? Is the other person having fun? And that just comes down to communication. And the only thing I think is really unethical is if someone plays the PLAYER rather than the PC. Like I think it's scenarios like this that have prompted this conversation:
Player A tells Player B their PCs are perfect for each other after much romantic RP and wants to put a ring on it and make it totally exclusive because they're not interested in cheating drama RP. Player B agrees because the RP has been so great and they also would like to avoid drama! But it actually turns out that what Player A meant was that Player B just had to devote their PC to them, while Player A's PC was still out fucking around. When confronted with this, Player A is all 'hey it's just IC lol' and then cheating drama RP happens with an unwilling participant who feels played OOC.
That kind of situation is not fun.

@Aria Make sure that you know what kind of breast tissue you have. I had no idea this was a thing, but they basically grade it and if you have dense or extremely dense tissue, just getting a mammogram doesn't cut it (cancer shows up as white, but if you have dense tissue it ALL shows up as white). You need to do that AND have an ultrasound OR there's some 3D scanning they can do. In my state they are required to let you know so that you can get the right kinds of tests. I just had my first one following a lump scare (which turned out to be nothing) but was informed that since I have extremely dense breast tissue that in the future I need to also make sure my doctor is either scheduling an ultrasound to go with it or an alternative.

RE: New Face 4 New Games
@Joyeuse said in New Face 4 New Games:
@Roz Arx is one I've been looking at a lot, it's just kind of incredibly intimidating to try and hop into, haha. Especially as someone who doesn't really want to play a roster character, but also is scared to try to add something that might be unwelcome to the lore.
I was very, very against roster characters, but I have to say I think taking one on Arx as your first PC is a big plus because it comes with built in hooks and family. And there's no requirement to like, stick with it if you don't like it. So, it's a great, pre-made starting point to get used to the game and see what theme is like and what interests you. Then making an OC will be that much better because you'll know where you want to fit and what you want out of it. But from my experience, making an OC without knowing the theme very well can be very isolating.
But seriously, there's no pressure or stigma to stick with a PC, roster or OC, if you just aren't clicking.

RE: MSB Peeves
We still have tonic aisles around here, although they are fewer and further between than they were when I was young. When I was a kid I thought that tonic was storebrand soda cause that's what my dad bought and called it. And then soda was like, your Cokes and Pepsis.
And if I had known my husband called it 'pop' I never would've married him.

RE: Gray Harbor Discussion
I find it baffling that people will say a demographic doesn't make sense when I can assure you there are all types of people everywhere during all parts of history. There were certainly black people out west during cowboy days that probably had some thoughts about slavery. There were definitely non-straight people in 1941 Berlin. Pretty sure Brokeback Mountain probably could've been set during old western times and still been valid.

RE: Travel Connections
Skiplagged and Hopper are two great iOS apps that will watch fares for you and tell you when the best time to buy is based on when you think you're going to go. Skiplagged also has a website and has been the source of some pretty cheap flights for me in the past.
