I've only got about 25 years under my belt, but the last few mushes I've been on were so outside of what I'm interested in playing that I'm giving up for a while. Tabletop is doing me just fine and I'm ok with it: it leaves time for me to do everything else I want to do. And since I know everyone, there's a lot fewer personality clashes.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
I am REALLY tired of hipster douchebags droning on and thinking it's a critical review, when all it is, truly, is yet another douchebag thinking he's an edgelord.
Shhhh. Let people like things.

RE: The Case Against Real PBs
Actually, I have an inability to imagine faces from text. Which is why I like PBs. It's not a failure of imagination, it's that it's not how my imagination works.
Anyone who wants to think it's creepy can, but it's not going to change the fact that three screens of florid, purple prose will not form a face in my head. It's just the way it is.
Nor am I ashamed of liking to picture actors in a MU role, because it's not the actor doing the actions. It's the character. That's much the same as...oh, any acting role an actor takes. Does anyone honestly think the ACTOR is really James Bond, or Frodo, or the Black Widow, or whomever? No. Most people can separate fantasy from reality. Those who can't shouldn't be in the hobby anyway.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@greenflashlight I miss those fried noodles that used to be on the table with duck sauce. (DUCK SAUCE. I miss duck sauce!) And I mean the wide ones, not the ones that look like thinner ramen. The ones made from strips of won ton wrappers that are deep fried.

@Ghost said in The Case Against Real PBs:
Question.
Would it affect your life at all if someone you didn't know admitted to masturbating to pictures of you? What if they told you not only did they do kink-stuff using your likeness, but simulated a "relationship" with another person who was also gratified by your image? You are now describing every person who's ever been involuntarily put in someone's spank bank. Which has nothing to do with gaming and everything to do with people finding each other attractive. It's a human condition, not some weird gaming thing.

RE: RL Sads
On top of every shitty thing going on in the world are the sometimes-reminders that there's still normal, everyday shitty things happening.
My son had a close friend. Said friend rolled their car off the highway and died. It's the first time he's lost anyone close to him. He's dealing with it very well, but I'm finding that my normal anxiety about him getting hit by one of the idiot drivers around here has ramped up considerably.
(Editing to add:) He's got an auntie who's a hospice nurse and I've dealt with death on numerous occasions, so he understands he's got resources on how to deal with it and support. And the option of therapy if he decides he wants to give it a go.

I didn't call Gany out for several reasons.
I actually was of the opinion that Gany wasn't attacking Ghost personally, but his arguments. Ghost's response was, IMHO, because he's not fond of being called out. But, by the time I was there to read Ghost's response, Gany had already self-edited and my input wasn't actually needed, in spite of Ghost later trying to get me to call out Gany, which was an action I found blatantly manipulative, much like his response to you. -
There's two of us modding this board, one of whom has EXTREMELY limited time to deal with anything and not enough spoons, and then there's me, a menopausal bitch who is trying very hard to stay fair and not give actual opinions when what is called for is trying to stay unbiased. For the record, I'm EXTREMELY biased and Derp is reining me in because I'm feeling pretty extreme and if I get as honest as I'm actually feeling, things are going to go south real fast.

I'm watching an awful lot of people backseat mod when they don't want to step up. Anyone want to come be a third? Please do apply. I'd welcome it. But mods have lives, this is a slow forum and this is about as active as we're likely to get, since, as aforementioned, there's two of us and one of us had his personal time severely curtailed and the other one has limited spoons. Then again, criticising about how the mods do it when no one wants to be one is also a time-honored tradition.
-
We're not getting clearer community guidelines. Period. There are not enough spoons to try to make up rules when the overwhelming rule is "don't be a dick." However, if anyone thinks we should remove this thread, DM me, I'd be all for it. I'm one of the people who actually found this entire thread insulting.
-
I'm trying like hell to be fair, here. As it happens, I think I'm being fairer to Ghost than everyone else because again, personal bias: I'm insulted as hell, I've watched him ignore me, ignore everyone who's insulted and he's only paying attention to Gany, Derp and you, Faraday. My response to my own known bias is to try to be more open-minded, which is clearly biting me on the ass.
Anyway, thanks for your input, I'll take it all under advisement.

RE: Good TV
@Runescryer Admittedly, every time Martin Tenbones came on the screen, I had to yell "MARTIN TENBONES!" Like he could hear me.

RE: Bring back the Hog Pit
@Pandora said in Bring back the Hog Pit:
I'm too old and cranky to to find a new place to argue with people, just bring it back.
No.
The only reason it's still accessible is because Gany made a promise and we're honoring it. It's closed, it stays closed.

RE: Good TV
@Hella He was wonderful!
And I finally let myself finish it. And cried. I really want season 2. I want ALL the seasons.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@Macha I'm sorry for your loss, this is hard.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@Macha You're doing what's best for him, not you. That's kindness, not failure.

RE: RL things I love
Thread resurrection!
Today is gamebook day! I was sent a copy of Werewolf: The Forsaken by a close friend who's divesting himself of his hardcopy.
For further squee, my Avatar Legends Kickstarter stuff arrived today. (This is Last Airbender, not Blue People.) And it's the main book, the adventure guide, the cloth map, the Combat Action deck, the dice and the dice bag! (Ok, at this point, I'm boasting.)
But it's nice to be having a Good Day. (And in March, gods willin' and the crick don't rise, the Old Gods of Appalachia stuff will ship.)

RE: Shows and Movies We're Looking Forward To
@derp I'd say they were my favorite part of the movie, but it's hard to say that when that movie was my intro to Val Kilmer. Mmmm, Madmartigan.
However. The brownies are perfection and my most-quoted parts of the movie. (Other than "Tempting...but no.")

RE: LBHeuschkel's playlist (cause why not)
I never got to meet you as Esteban, but I have to tell you, your legend lives on. A LOT of people still playing miss you more than I can begin to tell you.

RE: RL things I love
@Cupcake He won't be mortified. He will be smug. Still. If you mention it to him now, he will be smug.
I suggest laughing and pointing when it happens to him.

RE: The Baking Thread
I tried making this after a coworker did: http://www.zestuous.com/2013/07/bibingka-filipino-coconut-cake/
Holy shit, this stuff is AMAZING, it's basically a rice-flour pina colada cake. It's only good for about two to three days, but it's hard to stop eating it.
(I also tried it once, skipping the cream cheese and using Greek mango yogurt instead, with bits of mango in the cake and some form of mango juice as the liquid. It was pretty good, but not quite as amazing as the first cake.)

RE: Dark Crystal game?
@fatefan There's a book called The World of the Dark Crystal. It's been out for decades. It has a whole lot of thematic...stuff to apply. And I'll bet that it gets reprinted now that Age of Resistance is out.
