Not that anyone gives a shit about me, but seriously, I am not the only person/American here and elsewhere that is beyond the puking stage with politics and the zealotry and idle attacks.
I'd love to ignore the shit out of politics, but I have neither the privilege nor the luxury to ignore it.
Sorry, Gany, I truly am.
But political commentary should be in the Hog Pit on this board, IMNSHO. I get that in ALL avenues of someone's life, you can't truly avoid it. But here? Yeah, we fucking can. It has nothing to do with MUs.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
I swear, every time that someone mentions "Republican", "Conservative", "Democrat", "Liberal"... my finger lingers over the nuke button. I am so fucking sick of politics (and broken, fucked up politics at that!) that it will, at some point, drive me off of games, this board and so many other things that I enjoy.
I already avoid the news, have given up social media, and so many other things because of it, in the avoidance of it.
Not that anyone gives a shit about me, but seriously, I am not the only person/American here and elsewhere that is beyond the puking stage with politics and the zealotry and idle attacks.

RE: RL things I love
Family business needs an in-house server as it grows. Quotes ranged from $2400 to $15000 for hardware, server software and services. Bear in mind that this is a basic network server. Centralized accounts, net shares, proxy server, the sheer basics.
Bought Quad-Core Xeon w/ 16GB RAM on NewEgg for $225. Linux OS free.
Sometimesit simply, and literally, pays to be able to DIY. -

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
This happened today. A good female friend, a self-proclaimed Feminist who loves to go on and on about sexism and inequality, today ends up all depressed because her crush isn't going right. All was fine, we talked about it, until she blurted out that she was tired of waiting.
Me: "Waiting on what?"
Her: "For him to ask me out! I'm starting to think that he doesn't like me!"
Me: "Why haven't you approached him?"
Her: "He's the guy!"
Me: "What does that have to do with anything?"
Her: "What?! What do you mean? It's the man's job to make the first move!"
Me: facepalms "You're serious? That's sexist, don't you think? What happened to equality?"We talked a little longer, and now I think she has a little better grasp as to why I was so shocked to hear her talk like that.

RE: Reasons why you quit a game...
So.... waita%&$*ingminutehere...
You set up a perfect scene for Something Thematic and Bad To Happen, and Staff tells you to knock it off? Awesome game. Way to go guyz!

RE: Good TV
@auspice
Well with a name like WARNER BROTHERS, no one would have seen THAT coming. AMIRITE? -
RE: Reasons why you quit a game...
@layla
That's.... creepy as fuck. Also? What was the theme of this place? This is just ass backwards from most places, where non-slice-of-life scenes are the 'dangerous', non-thematic fodder that have to be 'watched'. What the fuck? Pizza? What, was this a historical MU of sailing ships and turkey legs at every meal? No? Then the staffer that paged you just had personal issues.

RE: Celebrities that are Dead To Us
It just floors me that this group of people on this board are so outraged and shocked by this bad behavior by these famous people. I'm shocked because of all people, you all should know by now the sheer stupidity of mankind just based on the cross-section of bullshit that MUSHers do, discussed on these very boards.
It's laughable, because it seems that, because you have some sort of celebrity crush on this person or that person, that they are above and beyond the same dark and ignorant urges and imperfections that infect the rest of the race.
We roll our eyes and say "Oh, really. Again?" each time someone mentions sexism, racism, whateverism on a game. It's barely discussed before said perpetrator is dismissed and life goes on. But, if a Celebrity gets the very same accusations, everyone loses their damned minds for weeks or months on end. There is endless wailing and flagellation.
Are these people so high and mighty that they become that different, that worshiped, that they get this Special Consideration?

RE: Staff and ethics
If the evidence and situation calls for it, unload with both barrels, absolutely.
-
RE: Staff and ethics
You can accomplish both goals by simply stating "Today, the staff banned a player after an investigation into activities that went against policies." Answers questions about the investigation, the policies broken, but don't "out" the player. Anyone close to them will figure it out and you've taken the high road by honoring their privacy.

RE: Celebrities that are Dead To Us
How about all entertainment stars, actors and actresses from the get-go? I have no use for the rich and famous, at all. I give zero fucks about tabloid entertainews, and find that entire industry disgusting. Also, politicians - giving less than one fuck here, too.
I mean, since your OP basically makes it purely opinion-based, as you haven't described what "fail[ing] at being [a] decent human [being]" means.

RE: How should IC discrimination be handled?
Sorry. I just can't see any constructive usage of IC discrimination, for any reason, surviving in this day and age of SJWs railing on about the Chinese plight during the Victorian era (example in OP) or sexism in the 50s.
All it takes is one loud-mouthed self-righteous opinion to kill people's drive to RP in such a setting, and to do it with a hefty dose of shame.
Everyone* out there knows that discrimination is bad, but in the OP's instance, this sort of thing is key to whatever the setting is proposing as a backdrop to whatever other struggles are going on. Some people just won't be able to see their way past that. I firmly believe that most people are increasingly wearing self-justified attitude blinders, assured that they are okay and correct in their thinking.
*Everyone but the zealots and the neanderthals.

RE: Reasons why you quit a game...
For the several, several games that I have tried out, the lack of anything going on led to me wandering away.
- No one was ever IC. Several games had everyone hanging out in the OOC Nexus. I haven't seen but one exception to this rule (not that it solves the issue).
- I have tried multiple character concepts, thinking that I just wasn't being interesting enough to draw RP. This contributed to the heartache cycle, which for me is the high of character conceptualization... only to step out days later onto the grid and see tumbleweeds blowing by.
- I have been as engaging as possible, as polite and friendly as possible, and while people were friendly back... just seemed that no one was able or willing to RP.
- Any break-in RP getting into anything thematic or group-oriented was seemingly riddled with non-starters. It's hard to RP a character who is in a predictably scary situation and realistically not trusting people in their surroundings.
- Finally, for me a large part of the fun of any character is the realism of them. If they are in a world of murder, monsters and mayhem, then they aren't going to be the trusting, wide-eyed innocent soul that just strikes up conversations with anyone, and certainly not going to trust someone just met for dinner or whatever. Most players don't seem to want to waste time with this 'slice of life' crap, and just immediately jump to telling you all about their Clan, their Pack, their Whatever.
Being a daytime player, I understand that it is hard to find people who are free enough to RP during the day (and believe me, I am comfortable enough with slow posing play, because hey, we all have to make that fat lewt). It just seemed like everyone was chatting during the day, which didn't leave much opportunity. This isn't a complaint, just an acknowledgement of the situation.

RE: Book Recommendations
Really enjoying Ready Player One. Talk about a firehose-drinking dose of nostalgia.

RE: Dragonlance?
Owner shut it down, I believe, when life became too much or the game became too much, cannot remember.
