At the time I was obsessed with simulations and my "Lambert's laws" reflect that.

Dr. Cat's "Attention is the currency of the future" was probably the most prescient when you realize social media was virtually nonexistent at the time. Most of today's popular online games interface with social media.

@Paris Reno1 had a fair bit of new crew, too. It was really refreshing. People seemed to pick it up pretty quickly, too. It helped that we had one new person who did a fantastic job helping them adjust, making resources and similar. While she and I didn't see eye to eye about a great many things, I would never hesitate in saying she did a genuinely phenomenal job with that and was a huge help that way.

I have to agree with Pandora. If you want to encourage public RP you also have to have good place code to make it manageable.
Players will zerg rush any public scene that get above 3 people so you have to have the ability to handle that expansion of people that allows the scene to incorporate the new people without totally crushing the scene the initial folks were having. Plus places cuts down on the spam from large scenes which is a lot of the issue with large scenes to begin with.

I have thought about trying to use something similar to Mystic Empyrean as a system in a MU*. It uses 7 elements as skills - fire, light, lightning, water, earth, shadow, and air in a wheel. Characters are ranked in each element and has a deck of cards consisting of these skills, so if you have a fire of 4, your deck will have four fire cards. When you want to perform an action you draw a card from the deck. If the element drawn matches the element of the action (fighting physically requires fire, for instance), it succeeds better than expected. If the element drawn is one step away, it succeeds normally. If it's two steps away, it succeeds but only if it's not being opposed or difficult. If it's three steps away, it's a failure.

I want to use the system in a game where the PCs are spirits and gods. It encourages specialization in certain areas, so a spirits of fire and war is going to have a bunch of fire cards and some light and air cards, while trying to minimize other cards.

I coded one for Haunted Memories once, before they turned off player access to @pemit.

Then I coded one for The Reach for the Changeling's Winter Court members who were tired of staff harshing them on the Winter channel.

Then I created a 'say()' function because this kind of thing comes up more often than you might realize.

I don't have anything global, but it should not need zones. You might need to go to a '=<channel name>' convention, which makes me shudder with six billion demons poking needles in all my squishy bits. If nobody reveals one later, I'll see about it.

I think you might be better off creating a game database then offering that. This way there's no risk of the dbrefs being out of whack because of using other installers or the core SGP db.

Not that I would ever code something like that, that would make a person into a wizbit I still want to give a shout out in thanks for this. I checked all the code I ported in and am not vulnerable to it, but at least I will try and break my u() habit, which I usually type just because it's more universal. I'd use v() except I hate having functions and databases on the same objects as actual code. Guess I'm weird like that... so get() here I come. I suppose those two extra characters won't kill me 🙂

To be clear, get and u do completely different things. Sometimes u is necessary, sometimes get is necessary. If you're using U to get an attribute and nothing more then you should be using get/xget. If you actually need to run code stored in an attribute you still want U. As for v, it's a shortcut for get that grabs an attribute relative to the object that it's ran on.

I had forgotten about needing U to run functions on another object, as you need to evaluate them and not 'get' them when I wrote that bit. A good reminder though 🙂 Thank you.
