    • RE: Character Information: Wiki or Mu*?

      RE: Descs
I commonly write a desc about details, not clothing. Height, weight, general build, characteristics of hair, face, any distinguishing marks... that sort of thing. I will touch on basic clothing, to give a general idea of what type of clothing that the character wears, but otherwise I pose my clothing in the scene set if I think that it is important.

Most people that I see nowadays just skim descs, searching for the details. You can tell this because if suddenly your clothing is important to bring up in the scene, ICly, they will 'look' at you quickly to see what you're wearing.

It seems, from this thread and another (or two?), that people are thinking about D&D RPG settings. Too bad that we cannot do polls on the forum to get a feel of various setting interests.

I always preferred Eve Online because you don't buy the base game, it's free. You can (now) pay a monthly subscription for a 'junior' character, with limited skill abilities, slower training, etc. I preferred Eve because there is no grinding, and the focus of the game wasn't individually-aimed, it was group-aimed. People play Eve to participate in the faction wars (for the PVPers) and economic production and money-making (for PVEers), commonly both.

I don't play any more, but it is the only MMO that I could get into... and mainly because of the non-grinding. You go do things not to learn a skill, but to have fun at the thing.

Seems that they are still a thing: http://www.fandlmux.com/Character_Types

However, in reading this.. I am failing to find OMGBURNTHEWITCH things.

      • They gain no XP whatsoever.
      • They cannot PK at all.
      • They MUST contribute to their sphere and are expected to be publicly available for RP.
      • They cannot take over a sphere, instead are to support normal PCs.

This just sounds like standard NPC rules on any game out there, only the Staff is allowing players to play them, not just relegated to staff?

Something hinky going on. EDIT: 1e100.net is apparently owned by Google, so not sure what is going on for me.

    • Is Google DNS down?

I am unable to reach Google.com (WHAT?!) because DNS resolution is failing. I can reach Bing.com and Yahoo.com fine, so it is not a local DNS issue, that I can tell?

      Anyone else seeing this issue?

    • RE: Meanest (But Funniest) Thing You've Done in a Game

I was playing a short campaign in tabletop D&D, and we were allowed to make any race that had playable stats. So, I naturally picked a Troll. I made him a Rogue. DM gave us each one choice of starting magic item, so I asked if I could have an Oil of Slipperiness. Troll drank the Oil. It becomes permanent. Troll becomes Rico Suave.

DM had the final laugh, though. Troll dies in hair fire.

This is just someone in the P2P industry who is pushing back against all of the pushback that they are finding is starting to arise in mobile gaming. People that I know are sick of getting pinged constantly for in-game purchases. I know parents who have grounded kids, taken phones, because of $100 bills attached because of P2P in-app purchases.

Read the reviews of many in-app-purchase games on Google Store and you'll see that the numbers of people swearing it off are rising (at least that is what I see).

So this sounds like a prominent game developer with a Twitter following trying to crowd-convince other developers to bandwagon with him, so that his company is propped up.

    • RE: Backpacks!

I have stuck with Swiss Gear for most every purchase on backpacks that I've ever made. They wear well, carry a lot of weight, and are functional. The straps on mine are very nicely padded, have a chest clip (that helps keep the straps from pulling your shoulders open, which causes back pain). Plus, they don't break the bank.

    • RE: Your Opinions of These Games

I don't get the 'NPC/Guest' hatred of F&L. I've seen it mentioned a few times, and I'd like someone to explain it to me.

You get to app a Feature Character with higher stats, that has restrictions on what you can do with those stats. This sounds exactly what many other games have done in the past with Princes, Chantry Leaders, etc. You got more XP/Points to build with, but you weren't allowed to PK, for instance.

      What am I missing?

Then gaming is dying and I am willing to let it go.

Too many indie games nowadays prove that it doesn't take millions to produce good titles. I rarely if ever by AAA titles any more, and definitely will not do so until they get discounted. I'm happy to let Big Games die. Most of the Big Game houses run shady business practices anyway.

    • RE: Has anyone ever tried to resurrect a dead game with a group of dedicated players?

If you really wanted to "get back to the roots", then don't provide anything. Encourage players to do it. Give them whatever tools that they need/want to run plots.

      It's a good idea.
