Yeah, it's ridiculous to think you need a game to be open more than a year to recognize there are awful players you don't want playing in your space.

Something must have changed since Alpha if no Thralls is a thing? I seem to recall some noblewoman who was a Thrall.
People referred to Margot at one point as a Thrall on channels which was just -- not correct. But it might be what you're thinking of?

@Shayd said in Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning:
@Arkandel : To be honest, I feel uncomfortable probably more because I think it's just me bringing up issues which are considered settled and overdiscussed and overargued. Also, I fucking hate slavery and thralldom A LOT. I don't want to look at it as an opportunity for roleplay when in reality if I discovered someone was holding thralls and had the weapons and political tools to stop it, I damned well WOULD, by force, and the idea that all the high and mighty noble houses that are "good" have been around for a thousand years and NOT rolled on Thrax like a Mack truck over a gopher makes all of those houses at the least complicit considering the fact that they're in an alliance. Which with the current threat makes sense to make uneasy allies, and that's how I'm roleplaying it; and willfully ignoring that for hundreds of years these houses have been sitting at the same table with a bunch of goddamn slavers.
There are a few ways to look at this. Let me go over ones which are not specific to Arx.
For starters, saying "I fucking hate slavery" in that manner seems to imply those who play character that support it are, in some way, okay with it OOC. I hope I don't need to explain the impropriety of that. We are all playing characters who are flawed in a lot of ways; I've played Werewolves who thought nothing of murdering a bunch of people to get their way, yet I assure you I don't condone murder.
Secondly it's very dangerous to use so many instances of the phrase "I would" when you are referring to roleplay. That's the idea of, well, playing a role. If you can't separate your own feelings from those of your characters' - or if a topic is sensitive for you for whatever reason - then yes, I would say it's best if you avoided playing about it. But please, for all that is holy, avoid putting your OOC voice into play. It's a really bad idea for all concerned parties. A quick rule of thumb is if you ever find yourself having to justify your character's actions to another player ("but he is RIGHT!") you are already straying off the path; whether your PC is 'right' or not is utterly irrelevant.
Again, please note none of this has anything to do with Arx. These are fundamental concepts.
@Arkandel : I agree with you on the first point. I do not think that people are okay with it OOC; and my passion here obviously overflowed. Let me rephrase it slightly by saying: I don't understand how a House so firmly associated with Honor and Good which my character is a part of hasn't gone on a crusade to wipe them from the face of the earth.
See: the long history of "good" world leaders refraining to interfere in other countries committing atrocities.

@Catsmeow Yeah I have definitely heard the exact opposite of that.

This is hardly news, but if you're getting Moderna 2, just make sure you're okay to be incapacitated for awhile. I kinda ignored that, and now I'm sitting here with a fever and chills and baring my fangs at god.
I had to take two days off work this week for just that. Fortunately my company is just straight up giving people free PTO for vaccinations and vaccination recovery and my boss is really supportive.
But yeah. No joke. I actually didn't have fever or chills, I'm sure others have had it worse, but everything ached and hurt to do, and I slept until 12-1 two days in a row.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@ganymede I didn't see it coming in canon but only because I didn't ever think they'd go there. I'd totally seen the vibes in the show for at least two seasons, though.

Mav is one of the first that comes to mind.
I swear, I never figured out what 'mav' stands for. Mis-...something?
It's short for Maverick, a player from what back when (I think on AmberMUSH?) who was notorious for mis-paging/talking on the wrong channel. So the term got coined as a shortening of his name.

RE: Strange Game Dev Inquiries from surreality (condensed)
@bored said in Strange Game Dev Inquiries from surreality (condensed):
@Roz Really? The very first question is 'what kind of tentacled magical sea creature do you want to be'? I'm pretty sure 'sorry, I don't' is actually a proper response to that question.
Is it, though? Like. I dunno about you, but when when I see thread replies on, say, /r/AskWomen and they're like "haha this question doesn't apply to me," I'm like, "That's a useless reply and that poster shouldn't have made it," because what's the point? What's the point of coming onto a thread about a game whose theme is already decided to include magical sea creatures and say, "I don't like magical sea creatures." What actual constructive purpose does that serve other than, "I'm a player who will not be playing your game"?
But even beyond that, bullshit. You don't post a thread like this talking about the entirety of your vision for a game and expect no general criticism or commentary. Seriously, if she's not ready to have people comment on her authorial vision, she should keep it to herself. I don't feel I've remotely gone outside the realm of 'constructive' (particularly on things like 'yeah, making shit rare is hard' and 'don't split your game, because don't, it'll die'), but if 100% positivity is her threshold, well, that's also addressed in the meta thread: there have been / are other places for that.
The point isn't positivity versus negativity. The point was that the OP gave context for the specific purpose of addressing specific questions and stated upfront that she wasn't prepared to get into other topics about the game's theme or structure at this point, and you decided to poke at the other stuff anyways. This isn't a thread about the entirety of the game vision. It's a thread with a game overview to give people enough context to actually consider the specific questions she was looking to get feedback on. It's not like a BIG CRIME that you didn't ADHERE TO THE OP'S DESIRED THREAD RULES or something, but again, don't be surprised that @surreality doesn't exactly want to play ball here.

RE: Strange Game Dev Inquiries from surreality (condensed)
I've staffed on and played on games where people just posted their NSFW work as a matter of course. All the logs were posted, pretty much. We had a warning box in the log form where people could indicate stuff. I dunno man, we're all adults, and they were games with a log-posting culture. @surreality, you've spoken firmly and often on this forum about how awful the slut-shaming culture surrounding TS has been in the MU* community in the past and how much better it is. And I totally don't think that's what you're doing in this instance, but I also don't think an attitude of "well if people did want to post for some reason, not that I understand why they would want to" necessarily serves to help normalize the whole thing. If that makes sense. Not arguing that you shouldn't have tags/collapsible boxes for NSFW content, because some people would rather skip reading it, or they might be in a place where they don't want to have NSFW content on their screen or whatever, but I admit the attitude of "it's totally cool if people wanna get their RP freak on, but it's kind of weird that they'd ever post it" doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

RE: Dead Celebrities 2021 Edition
@reimesu said in Dead Celebrities 2021 Edition:
- Raul Esparza's Bobby in that version of Company is quite possibly my all time favorite Sondheim rendition of any song and that's REALLY saying something because Sondheim is my favorite theater composer. Favorite. (My favorite accolade about Lin-Manuel Miranda is that he can be as complex as Sondheim.)
I got to see that production live twice, and one of my favorite details was seeing how Raul (one of my absolute favorite stage performers, bar none) would come down center during "Marry Me A Little" -- but stop just shy of the spotlight he'd step into during "Being Alive" at the end of the next act. I was in college, so still in the habit of stagedooring, and I remember telling him how I noticed it, and he was really pleased that someone had. He was a revelation in that role, and I nearly threw a book at my television when he lost the Tony.
I think you're spot-on that you can really see the line of influence from Sondheim to Miranda, absolutely. There will never be another Sondheim, but we'll get to have the art of those he influenced and inspired forever.

RE: Strange Game Dev Inquiries from surreality (condensed)
@surreality I want to be super clear: I in no way was arguing that people should be required to post TS logs. Like, TOTALLY 100% NOT ARGUING THAT. Only responding to the sort of sentiment as I was hearing it of "it's kind of weird that people would post that."

@caryatid I have been thinking of you and missing you often in the past year or two since you slipped away from our mutual spaces and went quiet. I’m really glad you’re okay. I hope you continue to be okay. I’ll keep missing you.

@Cupcake said in Course Corrections:
So if you see another player doing something - well, not WRONG, but maybe not so right? Do you offer corrections? Do you go through staff?
For example:
- A player uses past tense in poses, when the general consensus is present tense. Do you say something?
I generally grit my teeth and bear it. I mean, they must notice that everyone else around them is using present tense, so they must just -- be committed.
- A player ICly says something or poses a an unthemely reaction. Do you say something?
I've said stuff for this one, yeah. I generally bring stuff up as a sort of "Oh hey, you might not realize that theme actually says X about this. Just a heads up!" kind of thing. Because, like @Ganymede said, a lot of the time it can come from ignorance.
