    • RE: Wiki-related questions!

Wtf did my double post turn into a single post. That is annoying.

Anyways what I was TRYING to say is that I usually look at wikis on my Macbook, which has a resolution of 1440x900, but I also sometimes look on my phone. When I was building my last wiki, I put mobile-friendliness towards the top of my list when considering skins and eventually settled on one built to be responsive from the ground up. I'm not a particularly fancy designer, but I do feel like I did a good job doing clean template layouts that was easy to read across devices. Also, when I was feeling particularly stressed about some other part of the wiki not fixing, I would sit and resize my browser for a while to enjoy the responsive design moving around. It's very soothing.

I just finished Chew, which was great. I guess its coming out as a movie soon, Steve Yuen from The Walking Dead plays the lead. Felicia Day is the love interest. I'm not sure how I feel about that pairing (I mean I don't really care that much but) but the series was great.

I read the first volume of Chew that came in one of those great Humble Bundles that shower you in comics. It was great, fun and interesting, but when I closed it I found I wasn't particularly compelled to keep reading. But I'm happy for all its fans that it's getting attention and adaptations and stuff.

Marvel Studios did it again. Ant-Man is a better GOTG than GOTG. Minus the soundtrack. Between GOTG and CA:TWS.

      whisper gotg is overrated anyways

I'm looking forward to Ant-Man tomorrow tho

@Arkandel Fraction and Aja's run finally ended yesterday. Marvel delayed the last issue forever for some inexplicable reason that no one could explain (the creators were like, idek they have the issue) but it finally came out yesterday. A great wrap to a really fantastic run.

      Has anyone read the following:

      Trees
      Low
      Sex Criminals
      American Vampire
      Southern Bastards

Most of these are by Image, which puts out several others titles that I really love but I find myself on the fence about these titles and would appreciate feedback.

      Sex Criminals is A+ fantastic.

To be fair, any person flirting with someone where it isn't a share fatuation pretty much comes off as a creep.

Same as how most romantic gestures are creepy if it's not someone you are into.

That's not true. I've had guys flirt with me that I wasn't into but they weren't being creeps about it so it wasn't creepy.

Being creepy is when you flirt and the other person isn't into it and you're like ha ha ima keep flirting

MOOcode is weird, but it does have some kinda awesome features too that MUSHcode doesn't have.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I also run a MOO, and I find @addalias to be a huge help in at least adding the MUSH/MUX-like commands to the MOO commands. We also added a MUSH and MUX command crutch to our game so that both hardcore MOO players and MUSH/MUXzens can seamlessly interact with little to no drag. +commands are aliased, etc. The only huge hurdle is translating the *list system to the +bb system, and I haven't figured out a way to do that without recoding the whole thing from scratch.

Ding ding ding on this. I'm also on staff for a MOO, and have been off and on for years now. We have pretty much any MUSH command we can think of aliased. MOO makes it super easy.

Mailers are great, but you're right that they're harder to translate. We were at least able to do +bbnext, though, which is the important one.

My brain broke, just reading that.

We pay people THIS much if they sell THIS many tickets, but then if they sell THIS many they get paid that PLUS a PERCENTAGE on SOME of the tickets and I made a FORMULA TO SAY IT. A FORMULA, BIRD.

Oh man, I was an English and Theatre major in college and always hated math, but now I spend a lot of my marketing job doing pricing and sales analysis and getting really excited about nested logical formulas in Excel.

As far as I'm concerned the actual benefit of ST-ran scenes is in the fallout afterwards, in the cascading effect of letting the ripples of these big things reach different aspects of your IC existence - letting your friends now, manoeuvring politically to rally support from allies, etc. And it's absolutely in the enrichment of your character's existent through these new events since no matter what great chemistry I sometimes have with others renewal is essential or sooner or later we'll sit down and have that talk again. In a vacuum plot-lines eventually become incestuous, they get recycled. They need refreshing.

This is pretty much my favorite part of RP.

@Roz Huh, odd. When I logged in it said something about there not being a Guest channel. Maybe I misread.

Oh yeah, I think I know the message you're talking about and I got that too. Then I checked the channel list and was like, you liar I'm totally on the Guest channel.

In regards to wikis, I'm super biased to Mediawiki because it can be super powerful if you get comfortable with the guts and extensions. I've also just staffed with someone really awesome who really digs in and makes these super gorgeous, functional wikis. Semantic Mediawiki is a godsend for tracking and storing information across your wiki.

Wikia is just a free host on a Mediawiki base that you can't customize as heavily as building your own Mediawiki.

Logged on for a bit, but I was first surprised by the lack of a Guest channel. If you can't even talk to anyone or have questions, it felt like being hampered pretty quickly.

??? I connected there last night and there is indeed a Guest channel. Although when I logged in folks mostly talked to me in the room, where several staffers were hanging and were nice and helpful. Or maybe the Guest channel was on my channel list but I didn't actually try talking on it because folks were saying hi to me in the room. I guess that's possible.

I am tempted, but I will honestly say that the wiki is a bit painful. Like, why all those hard line breaks in that theme info? It just looks like it needs some cleaning up -- not to make it fancy, but to just make things easier to read and navigate. It's not super helpful for a potential player.

The fact that I can make Redditors SO INEXPLICABLY ANGRY when I correct someone referring to me as a "him" instead of a "her." Because OMG NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR VAGINA YOUR WOMANESS DOESN'T ADD TO THE CONVERSATION.

It's just like, wow dude you have a lot of feelings about minor conversational corrections.
