    • RE: The Work Thread

@Rinel I will say that as in my particular area of the law, there's not that much intensive research that needs to happen. Fully half of my time is spent being an unqualified therapist for people in crisis. A quarter of my time is spent working cases towards compromise points based on terrible facts -- the law barely registers on these except in so far as it helps that both I and the attorneys I'm arguing with have ostensibly read the goddamn statute.

I'd also say 90% of motions I write are doctored versions of previous motions I already wrote, so it's not like... there's a lot of NEW research I have to do. If I were working appeals and personal restraint petitions and digging down in the trenches of whatever the fuck the 9th circuit did most recently, as a solo like I am now, I would probably die.

@ominous The point is that "everyone blame Dawn for this thing the High Lords collectively voted for" is a false narrative that continues to persist.

    • RE: RL Anger

I typically give to charities as opposed to panhandlers as a matter of course. I also occasionally buy soap and deodorant for the indigent prisoners in the jail in the county where I practice because they never have enough and most charities don't serve this populace (at least as far as I have noticed).

I'd rather not give cash to panhandlers either - for a number of reasons - but man this idea of moralizing about what property someone else is allowed to own or what priorities they should have is just gross.

      @saosmash
      Knishes I made:

      12 ounces butter (unsalted, softened)
      8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
      1 cup lite sour cream
      3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
      1 teaspoon salt
      1 egg
1 egg + water + salt + for egg wash

Mixed up the above into a dough. I used a hand mixer and made a huge mess because I do not have a stand mixer. Once the mess was cleaned up, I wrapped it in seranwrap and put it in the fridge to chill overnight. Took it out the next day, let it rest for 15 mins and then rolled out until it was 1/4 of an inch thick.

      For the filling:

      8 medium potatoes
Approx 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
      1 large onion, chopped
      1 teaspoon sugar
canola oil (enough to cook onions & garlic)
      1/4 cup milk
      salt & pepper

I peeled, chopped, and boiled the potatoes, then pan-cooked the onions with the sugar and the garlic. They were pretty brown although not allll the way to caramelized. Whipped the onions and garlic with the potatoes with my hand mixer until they were pretty smooth, added milk and salt and pepper.

Then I cut the dough into squares with a pizza cutter, painted egg wash over the squares, put a dollop of filling in each one, and folded them up into a package. Once they were all packaged up I put them on a floured and pam-sprayed cookie sheet and baked them on 350 for 45 minutes.

I got the seal of grandma approval!! (Uh, and this amount of filling was about twice as much as I needed, so you could probably cut it down if you wanted to make them.)

    • RE: Difference between an NPC and a Staff PC?

@Thenomain Consider your words in the context of the discussion and what it means to dismiss anyone's point on the basis that you believe they are "getting emotional", and understand why so many people are reacting to this with "wow," "yikes," and etc.

Your longstanding feud with KQ is really, really not the issue.
