You're definitely the first Perrach. I was super excited to see him come off. The timing is especially great with the Thrax succession stuff, I feel like. Lots of meat to play with!

@Aria I'm a lawyer and I've long been of the opinion that @meg has some folks at her employer in need of killin'.

RE: RL Anger
@derp I have never been to a jail that didn't smell at least a little bad. The dress out room always reeks the worst if they have to put you in there.
Hang in there! There is nothing I am expected to do more as a public defender than somehow be in multiple places at once so it's like your professors/intern employers are just giving you a little foreshadowing.

RE: Logging your activity
I have an autologger now that @roz showed me how to set up so I can no longer forget to log shit. It's the best.

Literally funded before I got a chance to put money in it.

I think the primary issue vis a vis the polyamory thing when you're talking about nobles is that typically speaking noble marriages are constrained as a matter of contract principles vis a vis trade arrangements, treaties, etc., so your average noble may have an open relationship as much as she likes, but probably not multiple husbands at the same time. Thematically.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@derp It's a little hazier when we're in dependency law. It's a civil case that they are appointed counsel to protect their constitutional rights to parent. I think TECHNICALLY I can override him re telephonic testimony but it's a little hard to manage a case for a client who won't stop screaming about his confrontation rights and how everything is illegal and unjustified literally every time you call him.

I'm kind of confused about the idea that we don't RP about sex on the game or deal with sexuality on the game, though. I mean, maybe you don't?? But I have RPed about sex a fair amount, both doing it and talking about it, in a variety of sexuality flavors.
Also I hit on Luca like, all the time.

@Shayd Except that if you look at the history files, consider who was doing the rolling.

RE: MSB: The meta-discussion
@Arkandel I don't think @meg is really somebody to whom you need to explain that there are legitimate concerns about Arx outside of the MSB hivemind!

RE: Identifying Major Issues
Historically I have found that giving players scope to run amok actually means they're less likely to do shit. Like, I have run games where the policy for PRPs was literally like 'go do the thing, don't break theme' and they still won't run PRPs because they've got this constant certainty that SOMEHOW it's not allowed or they don't know what they can do or how to do it or -- who knows? Players don't wanna do the thing. I don't know why.
Here, make a NPC object. Or a set of NPC objects! Here, have code to temporarily alter room descs to show the results of your PRP. Here, borrow my staff NPC, here's the password to the object. Here, have some NPCs with direct hooks back to metaplot villain group #2. Please, write a public news post that tells the game what your PRP has done to impact the world so that other people can interact with your plot and react to it.
They don't wanna do it. They don't want freedom to do things. Freedom to do things is intimidating. Players don't want to act, they want to react.
I'm not really running games anymore right now because I'm pretty much just playing on Arx and that's it, but I've spent years doing it, and I have never figured out how to motivate players to do their own things.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@kitteh You have to spend a training slot to train your retainer, it's not automatic. I have a retainer whose number is 32 (i.e., early on in the system) but he's still level 1 and basically pointless except as a messenger gatherer, because I was using my training slots as my, you know, livelihood, or to help other players with stuff.
Also, the more you spend your XP on skills, the more it costs -- I've got lifetime earned XP of approx 900 on one character, which is, indeed, a lot, 'cause I've been around since last August or so. But it also costs twice as much for him to buy a skill as it does for someone who is newer, and teaching does not reduce the inflation.
It's not that I'm arguing with the idea that there's an advantage to being around awhile -- I think that's kind of inherent in any XP-for-advancement system -- but there are ways that the game design has developed to counteract that.
I feel like the fact that the game can be overwhelming because there's so much story going on at any given time and it can feel hard to keep up / break in because of that is a lot more of an issue than anything with respect to stat/skills, though. If you aren't joining a faction with a really actively helpful presence of current players who are willing to explain a lot of shit, you can end up really, really at sea and thrashing around.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
Once I asked a crafter to make a coat for a gift that looked like a rainbow vomited on it. The crafter agreed, but on condition I not reveal his identity.
Good times.

@Apos I have a feeling the work on your to-do list during your "break" is like ... more than I do for my actual job ...

@rucket omg I also made a poor Wendy's decision just today.

RE: The Worst Thing You Have Done in this Hobby Thread
@rucket I got there ten minutes after breakfast ended and I got their frostaccino thing and no food. Absolutely sugar bombed myself, had NO potato wedges, and made myself queasy.
