I don't want to date Theno but would fight him for @meg.

RE: DMs, GMs, STs: Do you fudge rolls?
IC conflict =/= OOC conflict.
You can -- and I do -- RP out conflict with another character while both players are gleefully clutching each other and cackling over how terrible it is. It's not PvP. PvP is when your goals oppose those of another player and you are working against each other's IC goals.
RP without IC conflict is boring. RP without OOC conflict is the only RP I want to have.

RE: DMs, GMs, STs: Do you fudge rolls?
@mietze Ooh! Are you in the child welfare system? I am too! I do parent rep in dependencies. And I find it amazing how little idea people have about how being an orphan actually works in this day and age considering how much they want to app orphans all the time.
I tend to discourage people apping sex workers generally, though, because it's a topic I insist be handled respectfully, and most people in RP don't really do that.

RE: RL Anger
@Pandora What is your point? Like ... I genuinely do not understand why you are continuing to tell us about how remorseless you are about telling someone to kill themselves.

RE: Finding roleplay
Why play on games if the community isn't at least mostly people you enjoy communicating with?

RE: Book Recommendations
@arkandel Let's see.
The first series of hers that I picked up was the Broken Earth trilogy, and this is a very hard series to read -- especially on audiobook which is how I do a lot of my reading -- because of just ... horrible things happening to very young children kicks in the pants. It's one of the most effective uses of second person narration that I've ever experienced and ordinarily I would run screaming from second person almost immediately because wtf. It's postapocalyptic fantasy and it's basically epic.
The second series of hers I picked up is so dramatically different from Broken Earth I can't even-- IDK, but this is the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms series, and it's a series about gods and people and they're at times dark, and like sexy and weird and interesting. I didn't actually finish reading the last book yet but not because it wasn't awesome, but because it didn't have an audiobook and I am a slave to three hours a day I spend driving a car.
I just started The Killing Moon, and I'm not that far into it yet, but so far it appears to be weird telepathy and dreaming stuff, with neat worldbuilding, and it is also wildly different flavors than either of the earlier two.
Jemisin is a really versatile writer with an amazing capacity for capturing character, dense worldbuilding, and voice. Also it's N.K. Jemisin but I'm not gonna go back and fix my typo because I have now written an entire separate post.

RE: How Many Alts Would An Alt User Alt If An Alt User Could Use Alts
I can usually maintain 2 alts' worth of activity without difficulty. I've got 4 on TLF right now -- this happens when I get really invested in a game and can't make the character concepts in my head go away. Our activity requirements for non-responsibility-having PCs are pretty light, so I manage it without much difficulty. In terms of creating meaningful relationships with that many characters ... well, I conveniently RP each alt more when the players who have meaningful relationships with those characters are available!
Now when I get the character creation urge, I write plot and put NPCs in it. (This backfires -- my fourth alt on TLF was a NPC from a plot I ran that I loved so much I couldn't get over my desire to keep her.)
I see no reason whatsoever to limit people who have the time and attention to spend on a character and aren't creating problems. And if they are creating problems, I don't see how more characters or less characters is going to make a difference. Assholes gonna asshole. If a player's a pain in the ass, how are they less of a pain in the ass if they only have one character? What I do find annoying is when people app a million characters and then idle on all of them, which is why reasonable alt restrictions I'm in favor of, because this slows up the bus and interferes with other people's play. But if that's not happening who cares if someone is playing 2 or 3 instead of 1?
If they're meeting activity requirements and enjoying the story, great. It means there's more variety of characters doing stuff. To be frank, I probably wouldn't even app on a game that required one character only per player, not because I always have the urge to alt immediately (I don't), but because it reflects an attitude that isn't compatible with my playstyle.
But I've never played WoD in my life and as much as I've read about it on these threads I still don't have that clear idea of what all y'all get up to.

RE: RL Anger
@sunny I know, I try, it's just like I can't make my mouth do it because there's no W? IDEK.

RE: Auspicious beginnings
Eh, I feel like there's a certain amount of "things happened and now you're in this situation" that it's unreasonable for players to object to. I get -- and have made complaints about -- railroading, but sometimes you're just trying to get everybody to the place where the story can happen and I'm kind of like ... OK c'mon.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
I don't always make them all -- Thanksgiving week, surprisingly enough, was a terrible time to try and RP with random people -- but it gives you a new set every week to try with for the cron and I've definitely had some scenes that I wouldn't have had if not for @randomscene. And, since everyone gets them, you can always turn out to be someone else's @randomscene, which is like a surprise bonus getting sought out for somebody ... and since both sides of the @randomscene get extra RP, it's like a giant wave of inclusion for new players as well as motivation for people who've been around longer to go out and hunt, but also motivation for people to be like "Sure, I'll RP with you, random person I don't know! Woot, extra XP."

RE: RL Anger
@surreality I feel like I should clarify what I am upvoting but like ... I feel this. I'm doing a docket full of truants later this morning. One of the kids I had in this a couple years ago was literally in trouble for going to the park after school to hit people with foam weapons (it was a boffers' group). I just ... IDEK with self expression and agency for youth right now.

I think it's my favorite system too. That and being bribed for writing journals, because I like journal writing for characters anyway.

@surreality The lawyer whose case it was did bring some sanity in. But still.

RE: MU Things I Love
@Cupcake That's a good feeling. There's nothing more fun than doing ship RP with someone who is just as engaged as you are when nobody is a creeper.

@Ganymede Sadly it's a responsive declaration in a family law case (WHY do I take these). Without my client's signature I don't really have anything to file.
