RE: The limits of IC/OOC responsibility
Yeah ... if my character hates someone mostly I'm gonna avoid RPing with them. And if I hate them OOC, I'm DEFINITELY gonna avoid RPing with them. Nobody needs to deal with me venting my spleen. It won't be fun for anyone involved. Even if I get something out of it temporarily I'm probably not going to feel very good about myself afterwards.

RE: The limits of IC/OOC responsibility
@ganymede When we ran our Mass Effect game, we had staff npcs in charge of our mercenary company for a long time (although one of them eventually turned out to be the Shadow Broker, spoilers). It worked pretty well although I always wanted players to feel more free to go out and just do things than they were.

RE: The limits of IC/OOC responsibility
I think "some" is the operative word. It is a balance. I recently was elevated ICly to one of those positions and I agreed to it expressly because I wanted to help shoulder the load. Still doesn't mean I want all my RP to be the load.

RE: The limits of IC/OOC responsibility
The only downside to the voice thing really is that sometimes it means that when people want to poop on authority for fun they have more players whose fun they can poop on.

RE: Hobby-related Resolutions/Goals for the coming year... ?
My new year's resolution is to have more fun and be less stressed by game stuff.
It will last ... idk. Probably until the next time something annoys me.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
Why do people have to relearn winter driving every single year?

RE: Mass Effect MU*?
@ganymede honestly in multiple years of running a game in the universe most people played humans. My main alt was a quarian and the other one was a turian but I mean normal people.

RE: Critters!
And, of all of the videos I have taken of Noodle, our newest Klee Kai baby, this one is clearly the most adorable:

This is what she looks like now. Or, well, as of ... yesterday:
and here is a bonus Puddin, her older sister:

@derp Isn't that the felony murder rule that we learned about 1L year?

It's a little hazier when we're in dependency law. It's a civil case that they are appointed counsel to protect their constitutional rights to parent. I think TECHNICALLY I can override him re telephonic testimony but it's a little hard to manage a case for a client who won't stop screaming about his confrontation rights and how everything is illegal and unjustified literally every time you call him.
Peeve: People who think the Confrontation Clause applies to non-criminal adjudications.
Bless you for handling this shit, though. I'd be bad at it.
Yeah, there's a reason turnover on the contract is high even though it's a fair amount of money. You lose a lot because the facts are always awful and there's a lot of playing social worker / unqualified therapist. On the other hand, somebody's gotta do it and they pay me.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@derp If I start withdrawing on all of my cases that are for intransigent people who won't listen to what I say, I will have no more dependency cases and that will be bad, I'm on a contract here.

RE: Mass Effect MU*?
I loved running a game in the Mass Effect universe and while I'm done with the characters and story from Alpha & Omega -- it was a beautiful ride but the best stories have endings -- I am definitely interested in what you are doing here and in the possibility of maybe actually playing on a game with you for more than five minutes.

@ganymede That's a really helpful idea I had not even thought of. Thanks!!

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@ganymede It is amazing how little they value anything when you're appointed counsel and it's all for free.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@ganymede I don't think anyone has the money for that. We are litigating a dependency and I've never even had a deposition in one before and I'll have to get the office of public defense to pay my hotel if we go.
