Is anyone else having problems with connecting to the game? I was on yesterday and it seemed to freeze. Ever since then I've been trying to log in from time to time and I just get DC'ed.

RE: POLL Gothic Fantasy System
I'd suggest looking at Lamentations of the Flame Princess. It's specifically built for this, while being a retro-style system game. Very fun. It's like playing D&D in the world presented on Cannibal Corpse and Iced Earth album covers.

RE: Vampire the Requiem 2.0 Bloodline Resources
The best place would be to look on the Onyx Path forums and website. So far, they've only "officially" released two bloodlines. Everything else has been fan made conversions, mostly found on their forums.

RE: Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?
I... have not read the 9 pages of stuff before this, so apologies if my two cents have already been talked about, but...
A book series called Broken Empire. Weird High Fantasy in a world that is a future version of our own where an apocalypse happened that brought supernatural stuff and reshaped the world completely. It's like Game of Thrones, but with nuclear devices and such.
Fallout. Just. Please. Not any specific Fallout game... just a game set in that world, with those factions. If anything, I'd think that the early games would be better to draw inspiration from, as the lore was actually more tight before Bethesda came along. Note: I also love the Bethesda games and their additions. I just think the earlier games would make for better inspiration for a MU*, specifically. Bonus points if I could get a game that actually combines the early Fallout games with the Wasteland games for maximum win.
While I'm going on about post-apocalypse... Mad Max. The iconic wasteland. Doesn't get much better. Also, Into the Badlands, because it's how I imagine Georgia looks in the world of Mad Max.
American Gods - This would be fun to create in the vein of a WoD/CofD style game, with the base characters being essentially tulpa, or thoughtforms given life through belief, and getting powers associated with the beliefs people have of them. Maybe a bit like Scion or something.
Assassin's Creed. It has a narrow focus, maybe, but the Ancient Aliens aspect of it is pretty killer and you have this ages long shadow war between two factions that is every bit as political as it is parkour and throat-slitting. Set it in the modern day, with competing factions using the various Animus style machines to access history, and you have a game that can be an number of things, while still fitting within the same theme. Alternatively, just pick a period of history and roll with it. Let's see the Fall of Carthage through the eyes of the Templars or something. Good stuff.
Diablo - Fantastic lore, high fantasy setting, larger than life heroic characters? I just think this could work surprisingly well as an MU*.

RE: Deep Shadows - Shadowrun 5th Edition MUSH - Help Wanted
It's been a bit since I played 5th, and I never did play a decker in this edition, but from what I remember, the appeal/point of 5th over 4th was that the rules for magic and matrix were all using the same standard formula as the base game set rules. Is this correct? And if so, why would the Matrix need to be house ruled?
For the sake of clarity, since text does not convey intonation, this is not a pointed question or criticism. Actual curiosity.

I just want to know if I can get away with shooting mailmen in the head and having spurs that go jingle jangle jingle.

RE: DC Rebirth
Okay, so with Potato, when you first open it, you'll see the standard kind of stuff at the top. Just click on File>Address Book. This will open up a new window within Potato. Click New World from the selection of items towards the bottom. It will pop up another dialogue window. Add in the Name section "DC Rebirth" or whatever you want to call the game. Then in the Host section type dcrebirthmux.com. In the Port section, type in 2001. Click Okay. On the Address book window, click close.
You're ready to connect to DC Rebirth, at that point. So, just click File>Connect To>DC Rebirth. You don't have a character yet, so you won't have anything to save for a character. Just click "No Character".
You'll see the log in screen of the game. It will prompt you for your name and password. You'll see three options here. Just type "connect guest" and press return. This will bring you onto the game as a guest. In the first room, I think you'll have to type "I agree" and that will bring you into the nexus room where you can talk to us on game and we can go over some commands with you and talk about what characters we have available and what you're interested in doing.

RE: DC Rebirth
Sounds good. I look forward to seeing you on game, then. If, after you pick out a client, you need any help with connecting to the game, just let us know. The commands are all pretty simple, too, so nothing to worry about there.

RE: DC Rebirth
Hi. I'm a new player to the game, myself, so I don't want to go speaking on anyone's behalf or anything, but I can answer a few questions you asked.
First, the game uses the DC Heroes RPG. The Mayfair games system. 3rd Edition. Sometimes the headstaff will look to the DC Adventures (GR) game to get an idea of how to stat out characters that weren't in the older game, but that's really it.
Available characters are able to be seen on-game with a few commands. You can see who is approved and who is available with the commands +roster and +approved, I do believe. +Approved shows you what characters are currently being played in the game, and +roster shows you what characters are approved and what characters are currently open. The list is not exhaustive, by any means, so if you don't see the character you're looking for on the list, just app them. If they don't have a sheet in the old game, you can make one in the character generation rooms. It's fairly simple to use. That's what I did with my character.
The game is an MU*, so it's not play-by-post or anything. It's more like livechat. If you aren't familiar with MU* style games, there are plenty of resources on this very site that can help you. At it's core, an MU* is a multi-user text based game. They operate through telenet, or with the aid of a special client. There are a lot of client apps available out there, and I couldn't tell you which is the best. I use Potato and love it. That being said, you're interacting directly with other players in real time, so it's more like a live chat kind of experience. Just with coding and programmed commands.
I hope I was able to answer some of your questions. If you need any other help, or have any questions regarding anything I said, feel free to ask right here. I'm always happy to help.

RE: DC Rebirth
I just started playing here. It seems to be a bit quiet, but the people are friendly, and they seem invested. I'm really excited to get into some stuff. Maybe get some more people on board, so we can see this game really thrive. I think that maybe the biggest barrier to people might be the cg system stuff. I assure you that it's actually not that hard to deal with, and if you're intimidated by it, the staff is more than willing to help you, or possibly even make your sheet for you in a collaborative effort. There's plenty of available characters left, too. Including iconic characters. So, you know, there's that.

RE: Deep Shadows - Shadowrun 5th Edition MUSH - Help Wanted
I have never wished so hard that I knew a coding language. I really hope that this game gets up and running. I want to MU* SR so bad, but I don't want to do SR 3rd edition, which is all I've seen out there. I prefer the anniversary and 5th editions. Maybe not setting wise, but ruleset wise, at least.

RE: City of Splendors: A Forgotten Realms Adventure
@Thenomain It's more or less gone, yes. There's still prepared spells, and all... but it's more freeform. You can prepare a number of spells, which you have to choose. BUT, your spell slots are separate. So, if you prepare Magic Missile, you can literally use all your spell slots casting Magic Missile all day long, and disregard the other spells you prepared for the day. In a way, they've combined Wizard and Sorcerer casting schemas into one. You prepare a number of spells, but then that just makes your spell list for the day, and you can cast any of those spells as long as you have spell slots, as opposed to having to prepare 2 magic missiles if you want to cast it twice a day, etc.
Another note is that spells don't get better as you level up. Instead, they get better if you cast them as higher level spells. So you can cast a 9th level Magic Missile. Of course, spells that are higher level at their base are going to be better than that, typically, but... it does add an interesting new layer to strategy when preparing.

RE: Post-Nuclear fun?
Well that's cool. Definitely some interest. I have zero coding skills or knowledge on how to set up a game, myself. But if someone were to do it, I am a stupidly complete source of lore information on the world settings (both Fallout and Wasteland) and could help with setting that stuff up.

RE: Darinelle's Playlist
Man, I miss Caohime. I was Dorian on TR. You were one of my favorite people to play with!

Post-Nuclear fun?
Hey kids. Long time no see. I've been quiet. RL has been eating my time up with stuff, but I'm working in more time to actually play again as things settle down. ANYWAY, I'm looking to scratch a few itches, so I was going to see if there was any existing, or any interest in starting up a game based on or inspired by Fallout or Wasteland. Anyone know of any? Or willing to work with me towards setting one up? I got setting knowledge out the ears.

RE: Fallout/Wasteland existing code/snippets.
@DnvnQuinn So, I get what you're saying, but... I'd contend that the same is true for literally every other gaming system that we see being used on MU*s. Most of the RP is social, and social stats in said systems are largely ignored. And even vehemently opposed, in some cases (because you should RP it! eyeroll) and this is true if you're playing D&D, WoD, BSG, or any other thing. Also, the combat of any system, including WoD is the largest chunk of the system. And that's not just a coincidence. It's just because the combat is the part where the system needs to have the most attention. It's the part of a game where the stakes are potentially the highest. Death. And it's the easiest, also, to define within a codified set of rules.
So, developing a direct Fallout PNP game, using WoD, or FATE, or SWD... doesn't matter. You're still looking at a far more solid and complete combat system for a game where combat isn't going to be the focus, because most people will want to avoid having their characters ganked.
That being said, using WoD and simply remaking the Perks into Merits would be simple AF. The harder problem you'd find would be to create the rules for all the different kinds of weaponry, potential upgrades to said weaponry, and especially energy weapons and Power Armor.
Using even a base Savage Worlds system, on the other hand, has that stuff already accounted for and included in the base game, whether or not you use the existing fan made Fallout supplements.
-
RE: Fallout/Wasteland existing code/snippets.
The fan made conversion is pretty legit, though, to be fair. It does capture the essence of the game very well and maintains the fun details that make the system of the game fun, like the perks and stuff.
There's also been a load of Savage Worlds fallout supplements made and released on the internet, of which I have a handful of PDFs. They're pretty solid, too.
The other thing is that J.E. Sawyer, one of the devs of Fallout back at Interplay, before Bethesda, was working on a tabletop Fallout game using a variation called the SIMPLE system, instead of SPECIAL. Might be worth looking into to.

RE: RL Anger
@SomeDude Dude, basically every woman I interact with at all, in any capacity online is on these forums. Like... seriously. This is stupid.

RE: The Descent MUX
Not at all. After reviewing Mage, I think it's even more of a nightmare now in a crossover sense than it ever has been before. Demon, likewise, won't be a thing for similar reasons.
For right now, it will only be Vampire and Werewolf, because it's the easiest to work with in a multisphere setting. Though, I wouldn't mind seeing Beast added later. And possibly Promethean, once we get a chance to look at the new version.
-
RE: The Descent MUX
Man, I tell you what... self-running modules would be amazing, but I r teh stupidz when it comes to the technical side of this hobby. Literally, I am just a tabletop gaming nerd. I know absolutely zilch when it comes to setting up such stuff, and barely more about actually even playing on a MU* beyond the very basic commands. If you know someone who could help out with some stuff to make more of our resource system stuff be automated in some way, please send 'em our way.
In the meantime, I figure I'm already going to have to deal with status merits. I don't imagine dealing with Herd or Feeding Ground merits will be all that much more paperwork to handle. I could well be wrong, though. Time will tell.
And, since I took a break from this conversation to beat Wasteland 2, finally, I'll respond to some of the other stuff mentioned.
To what @HorrorHound said about Vampires controlling everything:In a normal setting, this is true. Vampires can do all the social stuff that Wolves don't usually get up to. @Coin is sort of right, but overstated it. Weres can do social now. They're not really good at it. And they can never hope to be as good as vampires at it. But they're more adept at it than they ever have been in 2nd Ed. And that's something. But mostly, it comes down to... There is no Wal-Mart to sell that land to. Hell, you can't even buy it, because the world doesn't operate in that kind of way anymore. There might be some corrupt lawmen to bribe, but even their influence will be mostly minimal, just by the sort of village/mob mentality of groups in a setting such as this one. The vampire influence mainstays have to be re-evaluated, their tactics need to evolve. Another note is that @Taika is setting this very shortly after the rods dropped from the heavens. Like a few months afterwards. So social and economic infrastructure would not really have had a chance to rebuild, yet. Which is cool because that allows for the playerbase to develop their own methods of it, if they were so inclined. Create their own economy, and social/political structures. Neat stuff, if you ask me.
