Everyone who doesn't put The Last Jedi at the top/near top of their ranking lists is wrong.
You can't fight universal truth so don't bother trying.

Oh no, I give you leave to continue! PROCEED.
Oh god, I thought this thread was called 'Favorite Migraines' and I actually hissed at the screen and was like WHAT KIND OF MONST- .. oh.
Proceed.
-puts a pin in the JL discussion for a moment-
I saw Lady Bird last night and it was really lovely.

I'm a bit burned out on superhero movies so I'm probably going to pass on Justice League but I just wanted to pop in to say Zack Snyder is the worst and I don't know why Hollywood continues to give him movies. I am scarred and angry forever for the time I will never get back from watching the dumpster fire that was Sucker Punch.
I don't think the solve is anything mechanical. It is a balance of plot and staff-player relations; basically, as someone earlier said, the tone you set for your game.
It's easy to be a hero if the world that is created is black and white, if the villain everyone is up against is Big Bad. But if you make things grey and have conflict where neither side is wholly right or wrong, it will be much harder for players to always do the 'right thing'. It will force people to make choices, especially if you forward plots where those choices come at a cost. Saving the lives of many comes at the price of a few -- but those few are important. So what do you do? Make the villain well-rounded, someone/thing that people can empathize with, maybe even identify with their goals -- do they jump sides, try to change their methods?
Pair this with everything that @Apos said and I think you have an environment that fosters people to wear many different kinds of hats, not just white ones.
Ending up in an elevator with a co-worker that you don't get along with and who doesn't get along with you. You both know it but you have to pretend that you don't hate each other's guts.
Him: (Forced smile) So. How are you doing?
Me: (Forced smile back) Alright, thanks. You?
Him: (Gritting teeth) Great.
Me: (Grinding teeth) Good, good.
Awkward silence as we both stare intently at our phones even though we don't have a connection, wondering why the elevator has to stop at every fucking floor on the way down god I hate your guts how do you even still have a job you miserable fuc-
DING
Doors open. We are both put out of our misery.
Yeah, I remember the diss command on Firan being a complete shitshow -- basically, as soon as someone with enough OOC popularity decided they didn't like someone, no matter how slight the IC reason, it was dogpile city. It was also often used as an OOC means of attack: I don't like you, the player, so I will keep an eye out for even the smallest IC infraction and then grind you into social nothingness ICly.
It doesn't surprise me at all that the same type of behavior reared its head on condemn.
If you ever consider bringing it back, perhaps instead of having a direct effect -- all these condemns = immediate social loss -- there can just be a threshold that needs to be attained. If someone reaches X amount of condemns, it gets put on staff radar. And then they can make the call whether or not it's worth a prestige adjustment.
Granted, it puts more work on staff so .. probably nah.
Anyway, sidetrack done. As far as anonymous messages go, when I first started playing, there were a few times I wanted such a command -- mostly to send people secret presents and stuff. But I adjusted pretty quickly to not having that functionality and I can't say I miss it. The potential for abuse is high and if you really want to get up to some hijinx, you can just do an action.
These two fuckin' people...

I wouldn't say '...if I win, then you are persuaded'. I'm more of the flavor of '..if I win, then what I am saying/doing probably appeals to you, maybe more than it usually would' and then let you take it from there. You get to dictate your response because it is your character. However, if your response, every time, is just along the lines of 'my character is impervious to all things in all situations at all times because REASONS', then ..well .. that's really boring on the other side of the collaborative space (mine) and I probably just won't seek you out for RP again (you being the royal you, not you specially).
Some people really enjoy rolling up characters who are perfect at everything and cannot be manipulated/persuaded/intimidated/etc. And that's fine. If that's their version of fun, then .. you do you. My personal jam is characters with flaws and weaknesses -- those are the characters/players that I tend to seek out for scenes on the regular. The best scenes I have ever had have involved spectacular failures on my part or others'. A+, would recommend.
@Deviante Hihi! Arx is pretty overwhelming but I'm having a good time so far. I don't thiiiink I have done anything too ridiculous yet.
Calista looks like a lot of fun!
@kanye-qwest I have absolutely no problem with Ben Affleck going away. He can take his brother with him.
@Auspice I'm only kidding! I'm not going to troll this thread for PBs. It's just in visiting it, I found myself discovering people I had never known and seeing these interesting faces immediately began to spark ideas of stories behind them. What is the cause of the sadness that lies behind her eyes? Why does her lips curl in that devious little way? It ends up being a fun creative exercise, imagining the characters they could be.

@faceless I know you weren't asking for advice at all but...if the lower paying job with the award winning employer culture won't put you in dire straits? That one, all the way. A company that respects work/life balance and takes care of employees is so, so nice to have.
I do appreciate the advice, regardless. There's where I've personally leaned myself in terms of suggestions. Her previous employer was ranked third or fourth; there was a reason that she loved it. I want her to love what she does. So going from 3rd or 4th place to 1st? That seems like a great thing to me.
That pay increase from the other place though... it's just so tempting. More toys!
Never pick money over happiness if both choices will fulfill your needs. As someone who is making good money in a job that is making her miserable, I can say that the extra money isn't worth it. Sure, you can buy more toys but you don't end up playing with them because all you do when you come home from work is curl up in a ball of depressed numbness and spend your non-working hours dreading going back into work. It'll kill you to see your wife that way and is not sustainable.
Fuck. I really need to find a new job.
Should there be +census for attribute and skills so players get a sense of what the actually playerbase spread is?
I just need to keep saying this: THE GOOD PLACE!!
I love this show so forkin' much. It's breaking all my rules about watching a show that is currently airing (I hate having to wait week to week, season to season). I want to marry Janet. I love her.
***=A word about the latest episode***
A game set in Pixar's The Incredibles world.
