I was 18 then and it was long before I had any ideas toward setting up my own game, but still good to know! I've only ever set up TinyMUX and Rhost. No disrespect for PennMUSH; I staffed on a Penn game for quite a while and it seemed to be as good (and better in some respects) as anything else out there.

RE: What series are you reading?
After finishing the Bas-Lag stuff, I decided I would finish the Dark Tower series since I'd not read the last two.
Sadly, it makes me long a bit for the original trilogy and even Wizard and Glass, which was so setting rich despite being 600 pages of exposition.

There would also be dogs short enough that the wouldn't be able to peer above the knees.
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

grimdark Pugmire
You made me a little sad thinking about this.
You could help me with this project Theno.

RE: Wiki/MUX SQL function request
@Glitch Right on, I had no idea Penn had progressed to that point. Good to know if I ever get my grimdark Pugmire game up and running!

RE: Wiki/MUX SQL function request
@Roz If I'm not mistaken, Rhost allows you to have SQL integration. I'm pretty sure PennMUSH does not; I'm not sure about MOO, or MUD codebases like Circle. I think Circle would be one of the few that would work with it, given how complex it is. You could probably get it to work with MOO, since you can customize the fuck out of that platform.
Edit to add: SQL injection is what causes wiki-to-MUX framework possible. Somehow @Chime got it to work and I stared at her with starry eyes.

RE: TrekMUSH & Guardians of the Galaxy MUD
Premium MUDs have been around for a long while now. Between games like DragonRealms (which has been around since the AOL chat days, alongside Gemstone), and then the Iron Realms Entertainment company, this isn't anything new. Iron Realms actually has a CEO and then lead developers on all of their projects. I have no clue what happens when you give them money, since I don't play on any of their games, but they exist already. DragonRealms lets you buy into a Premium or Platinum level where you can subscribe to get access to a smaller player base and do RP for fifty bucks a month (seriously).
Personally I feel that this sort of model would destroy the hobby and I'm very happy this didn't become the norm, but they're popular enough. DragonRealms and Gemstone both are still in the top 5 on Mudstats. On the other hand, staffers aren't usually paid anything for what they do, it's always a volunteered position, so this model does let you pay your staff.
Anyway, can it be done and would there be interest? Yeah, probably. Should it be done? Not at all.

RE: Dystopia MUX
I wound up caving and grabbed a character. Hopefully things will get less hectic fairly soon so I can do something with him. Corporate reporter!

RE: Dystopia MUX
I typically love the games that you're associated with, and goddamn I love cyberpunk so much. I really wish I had more time to do things than just staff, because this sounds amazing.

See, when I was playing ME3, I got distracted by the multiplayer and basically just did that over and over again. I managed to get so much war score from it, though, and wound up sending through a bunch of Spectre agents due to leveling up to 20 with about 6 or 7 different characters. It was probably one of the only PUG multiplayers that I've enjoyed.
You're so fucking weird.
Look, if you haven't seen Grunt falling through the Citadel, you haven't lived. Go back and play ME3.
And if you want to see the only opening worse than Up, go play The Last of Us.
Yes, ma'am.

RE: +Lock?
@Cobaltasaurus -- I have the one from TR, which is basically just the one from Fallcoast, if that'll work for you.

RE: Somasatori's Playlist.
As an update:
Toska (Geist/Possessed TL)/Jackson/Billy @ Fallcoast
Zoris @ Star Wars: Generations of Darkness
Johnny @ Modern Nights MUX (if I ever get time to play him) -

I'm still in Dragon Age: Inquisition, for fuck's sake
Same. And eventually I figure I'll actually finish Mass Effect 3, or one of the Fallout games aside from New Vegas instead of getting distracted.

RE: Warhammer 40k?
I'm not a great or fantastic coder by any means. Thenomain usually makes fun of me for it. Cobalt too, come to think of it. I think even Glitch. Anyway, I'd be willing to admin at a place like that and occasionally do small orders. I think the TGG code is still lying about a bit, and a lot of that would just be adjusting stats for data entry, though it wouldn't be the actual Only War ruleset -- it'd be some amalgam of Only War, the setting, but with TGG code.
-
RE: Warhammer 40k?
I'd be interested. I've always loved 40k, and the Only War set-up is pretty awesome. It'd make a cool alternate version for the meatgrinder that was TGG.

RE: What Do You Collect?
@Coin
I had Don't Starve Together! I got it to play the game with my girlfriend. We broke up a week later, so I returned it.[SAD TROMBONE INTENSIFIES]

RE: What Do You Collect?
When I was younger, I used to collect symbols, like I had a whole drawer full of Stars of David, crucifixes, "authentic" gris-gris bags, etc. After I turned 17, I just stopped collecting things and became one those annoying "the things you own own YOOOOU" anarchopunk people.
Still am to some degree, I guess. Though thanks to Humble Bundle, now I collect games?
That "Last Played" is about accurate. I don't have time to actually play them in any meaningful way. I just get them. Maybe one day I'll have a roommate or SO who REALLY wants to play Worms Revolution. I don't know.
