      Lazy House Meat Option:

Chicken thighs (preferably boneless for lazy factor), rosemary, sea salt, pepper, chicken broth. (Other seasonings if you like -- I forget which others we sometimes add in, it varies.)

Throw in thighs in layers as flat as you can, apply layer of seasonings, continue until mostly full. Pour in broth. Slow cook whilst at work. Come home to a week's worth of awesome protein. (That's with our slow cooker, which is big-ish, but my husband eats like he's trying to power a fusion reactor, so it kinda balances out.)

You will be tempted to use some other cut of chicken for this, because chicken thighs in a big pack are often cheap enough to look seriously shady on principle (they're almost always on sale everywhere). Don't. Seriously. It's just not as good with chicken breasts or a mix, and you will have spent more to get there.

@insomnia I really like that idea, and it would be really cool if that could be implemented. I dunno how much work would be involved, but having 'is staff on' tags by posters names with the game name would be seriously fantastic for a variety of reasons in the same way we have things like 'pitcrew' or 'reader'/etc.

I'm not sure why all of them don't necessarily show (they don't for me, anyway)... I kinda wish they did.

A bookkeeping error on someone else's part costing me 1/4-1/5 of my projected annual income, which is more than enough to strangle my new business in its cradle.

That income having been already accounted for in expenses.

Some of those expenditures having been already made, on tools for production.

Having the tools to make the product, but no money left for the materials required, and debt from the tools on top that needs to be paid back.

Having a plan to get through it, but it requires more money and more physical effort than my body can actually take, and knowing this will cause lasting damage. Not really having a choice about it anyway.

The stress from the cavalcade of stupid above causing the old 'can't keep food down any more' stomach condition to return in full force, with an extra dose of pain.

Realizing that can't slow things down that need to get done, and that I'm the only one that will do them, even if I'm not the only one who can.

Knowing this is going to be the status quo for the next few months at least, because the business just became a totally different business and rebuilding is a thing.

All of that seriously fucking sucks, but it is not the peeve. That's just the shit that is.

The peeve: all of this shit going down between ordering 5000 business cards, and those business cards actually showing up.

    • RE: Questionably viable character types and tropes (tangent from staff ethics convo)

I have a few things I would add to this one. But then, I'm not sure I'd ban these outright. Limit? Yes. Carefully vet in some extra way? Possibly. Ban? Not sure.

Some other things I would limit, personally?

'Lone wolf/solitary crackpot/always goes it on their own' character tropes. If a concept is predicated on doing things solo, it has limited use on a game focused on collaboration, and a game can rapidly get overrun with this type in a way that can create needless roadblocks to getting anything done/going on/keeping activity flowing.

Characters with extreme communication difficulties are another issue under this one -- when half the grid is deaf, mute, or can't read or speak the language of the realm, suddenly half the RP in the game is about their communication difficulties rather than what the game is ostensibly actually meant to be about. Fun challenge in play? Yes, but not when the grid is overrun with this trope.

It sucks, but I'm still here, and still way too stubborn to give up. Wasn't even my bookkeeper -- long story is long, it'd ultimately cause major issues for people who deserve this ass-fucking less than I do for their amazing levels of utter generous amazingness over the past few years to do more than sigh and suck it up as a mutually-damaging screwfest made of honest error. šŸ˜• Pretty much nothing I could have done to avoid it, so all of the hell-chaos is under my (least) favorite heading of 'shit that was clearly meant to be for reasons I just can't fathom yet'.

So while I'm kinda a wreck, well, dammit, those were really amazing business cards, seriously, world, WTF. I call so much foul.

The injury I'm usually able to shoulder without ever letting on, it's the insult-level-irony on top that just feels like the universe is in super-mock-mode.

I'm wondering if it's considered tacky to keep the business cards when they're indicative of a completely different sort of business, and how much I actually care either way.

@Bobotron @Arkandel I would love to see that if there was some self-awareness involved. As in, 'oh, gods, we've become what we despise' and so on. That dawning moment of horror is kinda amazing.

But that pretty much never, ever happens. šŸ˜•

Ache everywhere from doing the lion's share of cleaning and organizing at record speed.

Still not even close to even unboxing the new computer yet.

Somehow, in spite of me being the small, frail, 'not supposed to lift things' part of the equation, I have hauled all the heavy crap around there has been to haul for several days now.

My aches are starting to collect pet names, and I think my tailbone is actively planning to murder me while I sleep. (I remember always sitting on the floor and working on stuff until about 10 years ago or so. My mother would always wince and I had no idea why. Now, I know. Getting older blooooooooooooows.)

      Times I have almost died in a craft-supply-avalanche: +1.

The last few days have been a comedy of (t)errors.

      Actual conversation that occurred:

Bri: "So how did things go at the Apple store? Were you able to get the stuff to hook up the old monitor?"
Me: <just starts laughing desperately and maniacally>
Bri: "...this is gonna be good."

    • RE: Looking for...

@arkandel I'm willing/able to do it. Can't start for about 2 weeks, though; there's another project I'm working with that gets priority and is already a bit behind.

      My logic/suggestion:

      • Create playlists with some basic templates on user pages.
      • Only the user should edit their own page/list what they want to list on it. No color commentary, no peanut gallery; self-maintained lists only, with no praise/blame/gushing/griping.
      • User name should be the same as MSB name.
      • Game listings for games long lost to history can be created by anyone but should remain neutral in stance; existing games should be added by their owner/someone on staff there/whatever. Just what it was, where it was, when it was for defunct games, just what it is and where it is and how long it's been there for current ones, with any app notes or restrictions or what-have-you. KISS principle applies. It's super easy to add a 'add review' section to this for commentary/call-and-response if/as needed; the same goes for a 'looking for person from here!' section. Info from playlists can dynamically be added to list characters from that game and link to the player/user page for people to connect.

Strongly suggest keeping it that simple, and that's pretty dirt simple. Temporary or permanent write/create/edit blocks can be used if people can't behave like mature adults.

ETA: Strongly suggest no image uploads. They're not really necessary here for basic data foo, and they eat server space like crazy when they pile up.

    • RE: Questionably viable character types and tropes (tangent from staff ethics convo)

@tinuviel I don't know if the thread has just come full circle here (re: some concepts don't work well in this medium and should potentially be restricted), or if we just agree or disagree really strongly.

Let's say I have a scene posted for 'it's a normal day at the diner when two thugs show up and try to rob the joint', and Giles, the sniper, the seamstress, and let's say someone specializing in playing guitar, and another who is a crime scene tech are the ones who sign on to show up.

Are you suggesting that each of these characters should reasonably have a chance to demonstrate their primary concept skill in this scene or someone is a failure as an ST? (Sniping, occult research, tailoring, playing guitar, and investigating a crime that hasn't yet occurred?)

See, I agree that everybody in a scene should have a chance to do something useful and have a turn in the spotlight.

I'm most emphatically not on board with the idea that every scene has to be adjusted beyond a reasonable point to showcase everyone's conceptual focus snowflake factor.

Or are you suggesting that these concepts being approved with a laser focus that renders the characters useless outside that one task is idiotic and that people shouldn't be creating one-trick pony characters? (On this, I would agree.)

@arkandel ...and the guitar dude should be weighing the idea of braining one of the thugs with the guitar, but... but... he loves that guitar.

Yes, this. There's awesome story stuff any of these people could do in the scene but rarely does it have anything to do with their specific snowflake skill.

Dear cold-call and robocall crowd that just can't wait to tell me what a great deal they offer on credit card processing services: fuck all the way off.

I get at least four calls from various idiots of this stripe per day since I have a business.

Apparently, they think 'I have a business == I am the dumbest motherfucker who ever lived', because holy wow, part of running a business is researching that shit oneself and finding out about companies and what they offer, and I can pretty much guarantee the ones that are reputable and credible are not robocalling people off a list.

'Research your needs and assess pros and cons' of any service may not be rule #1 of owning a business, but it's sure as shit in the top 5. This strikes me as a uniquely stupid demographic to target this way as a result, let alone have so many different collections of idiots trying to do it.

"We still have a few medical bills in collections because my husband is an idiot sometimes, I DO NOT PERSONALLY QUALIFY TO ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS PER REGULATIONS ON ACCOUNT OF THIS," does not even stop these fucking morons from calling several times per day. (We just use the family one, because we still have it and ultimately: duh.)

    • RE: Regarding administration on MSB

@thatguythere The concern raised was basically this: the claim that anybody was or is doing this is really, really suspect at best.

That said, I really don't object to people being reminded to not do this and don't take it as an affront. The vocal posters here (barring the old 4chan crew, so far as I know) are not people I would ever suspect of doing anything of the kind, even if some folks post about being tempted to do so once in a while.

There are, however, lurkers. Lots of them. And they're all unknowns. Some could be just too shy, some could be too scared to voice an opinion lest the hounds be loosed, but it's entirely possible there are complete shitlords in the bunch, too, who will never pipe up precisely because they know if they admitted to doing this kind of crap, they'd get roasted harder than any game they did it to and then some.
