I would love to see a historical MUSH set in a non-American/European setting. My fantasy is to create a game set in 1930s Shanghai (an incredible multi-national destination filled with intrigue! Spies! And great fashion!), but I lack the coding skills, and probably the patience...

I'm an Egyptologist, and if I had the time and skills, part of me would love to run an ancient Egypt themed game.

Depending on the era, I would totally be down for this. The problems that I've seen with them in the past tends to be "depending on the era," and also "how historical do you want it." Because if it's too historical, than the average player can't play it, and if it's too Hollywood, then the people who really like the era will get frustrated by everyone else. There has to be happy medium, I'm sure someone will find it, I just don't know that I've seen it yet.

You ran a great game with The 8th Sea. I'd love to see something like that again.

I'm reminded of the time my cousin, who was in high school at the time, asked earnestly, "When the states seceded, where did they go?"

Hitting the roster character jackpot. Logging in for the first time and discovering rich backstory hooks and deep connections with other characters right off the bat. Never had that happen before and I’m excited!

When a student tells me they were "too busy" to do the 20 minutes of homework I assigned five days ago.

I got into MUing about three years ago as a way to help get over my writing anxiety. Also I like playing make believe.

If anyone with MU-running skills wanted to do an Egypt game, I could help them build the theme. Might as well use my degrees for something.

Once a day, you could +scavenge or +hunt. It was almost entirely RP flavor. Sometimes you found nothing. Sometimes you'd find cool things. It was like a Skinner box. One time, I found a chicken.

No Return was a shitshow, but I adored their scavenge/hunting system to pieces.

My company's too busy sending its execs to cons (Extra Life, SxSW, etc) to say or do anything at all.

Despite its CEO, most of its executive staff, etc being women.

So hey, enjoy using all the money you don't pay your staff with to run around at conventions, guys!

Does he call it "South-by"? If so, set him on fire.

A couple people said their MO is to open a game for like 6 months, get bored, and open another one. I think Lantern Hill was one? I've definitely never played on one of their other games, so someone else will have to confirm.

This shit honestly baffles me. Just...run a private game if this is what you want to do. There's nothing wrong with that, you'll take zero flack for it, it's a far more appropriate way to do some types of campaigns. Why open a public game when you don't actually want to run one?

If there isn't an audience for your coolness, does it really happen?

What is the sound of one hand fapping?

It softly goes "shang, shang, shang"

I mean, when I joined the game here's what happened and it should have been a huge red flag:

A carnival came to town! It was part of a plot. They even built a place on grid for it. A board post said RP would get you into the plot! Me and two or three other people RPed there every. Single. Day. No plot hooks were thrown our way. Eventually, other people started grumbling about this. A new post was put up that people in Group A were getting first dibs on the plot, but to get involved just RP with them!

Someone on the public channel then pointed out the post didn't say WHO was in Group A so how was that possible? They were assured there would be a way in.

My character was a huge goody good, so I put a request in saying I'd like to try to talk to someone in charge to see if she could do like, a can drive donation one night to get people discounts on tickets and help!

No reply. Finally staff comes back and says that won't be possible. the people in the plot don't want any more people in it.

So. The original post was a lie, I guess? A bunch of people stopped logging in after that. I should've been one of them!

Almost the same thing happened on The Point. A thing with raffle tickets, where the dude who is the staffer's partner mysteriously won. I was told that in order to get in on the plot, I would have to talk to him, so I messaged him, like, "Hey, I was told to talk to you to get in on x!"

Staffer starts messaging me and tearing me a new asshole because I apparently was rude and demanding to him.
