@Auspice They're not the jumping sorts. Both of them are lazy fucks. One is old and doesn't give a shit. And the other is fat.

RE: The Basketball Thread
@Arkandel This is the exact reason why I like these playoffs so much. It's the Revenge of the Small Market. All these teams in the playoffs who have categorically sucked more or less for years. As a Bucks fan, I can't tell you the kind of languishing we've had. The last time we were even remotely 'good' was during the Glenn Robinson run back in the late 90s/early 00s. Philly, Portland, and Toronto? More or less all small market teams, who were, until the last, what? The last five season have all been considered write-offs. At the very best, they were 8th seed chowder destined for an early exit, and that's if they were lucky. Even Golden State, who until it's current dynastic status had been a literal nobody team, only marginally better than Sacramento for what felt like forever.
These are all amazing teams, and all of them are from smaller markets. And to me, that's great. This is partly why I get salty when people talk that it's not nearly as interesting because LA, or NY, or Miami, or Chicago isn't involved. Because they have the markets and pull in viewership.
Fuck that. It's the little guy's turn for once. All these odd teams most people who don't pay attention would wonder 'well, how'd they get that deep in the playoffs'. Because it's not the expected outcome.
And personally, I love shit like that.

@Lisse24 said in Game of Thrones:
@GangOfDolls
And this is my problem with this season. If you have to tell me in after-episode interviews what happened, then you did a crappy job writing. Also, character development means absolutely nothing.

RE: Game of Thrones
Right there with you.
I still can't decide if I hate all the main characters or like them. For all my hand-wringing on it, it's as if one day Joe Abercrombie decided 'hey, what if I wrote a book series about really horrible people with only the slightest hint of likability'
Except Three-Trees. He's the best.

"Only 3.5 roentgens? That's the equivalent of getting a chest x-ray."
"He's clearly delirious."
I can't say there are many series or movies that have honestly unsettled me, but that scene, the only time they actually show the reactor on fire, unnerved me.

RE: Good Music
My girlfriend bought Tool tickets for October. It was $200 and I'm still trying to figure out if this was a good idea or not. Partly because we're in the midst of moving at the end of the month and partially because I'm not sure we'll be able to to. I know we could probably sell them and make that money back, and maybe even thensome, but I'm not sure why I'm apprehensive. Because I've always wanted to see Tool.
But goddamn, Fear Inoculum is not good. It's...okay, but I think it's by far the weakest Tool album I've listened to. There's nothing that really grabs me like the last albums have. For all that people look down their nose on 10,000 Days, coming out of the gate with Vicarious and then Jambi is a great way to start an album. The new album just sounds like one long, ponderous song. Nothing exciting, nothing attention grabbing. Technically it sounds great, with a lot of concepts that are both new and very much in Tool's niche area. But it was just wasn't...interesting?
At this, and this plays into one of the reasons why it took so long to release this, is that the band members just hate each other at this point and couldn't agree on anything for the album and nobody was willing to bend for their 'creative vision'. What we got was the only thing they could agree on.
I should be excited about seeing Tool, but after the release of the album I'm...apprehensive?

RE: Good or New Movies Review
@AeriaNyx As someone who has seen Taxi Driver I will agree more with that particular review. It does try a little too hard to emulate Taxi Driver. That said, I don't think the movie is terrible, but I don't think it's the next Citizen Kane like so many were expecting.
It's okay. Maybe trying to be a little too edgy, but had nothing to say.

@Auspice Hit up r/niceguys if your skin hasn't crawled lately. Some of those stories that are posted are just....Y I K E S.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
@Arkandel Yep. That's more or less been my entire take-away from these new movies. (mostly)utter garbage.
Find it hard to believe that making something worse than the prequels would be possible, and yet, here we are.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
I should note that my previous comment was in no way shaped that I could do better. I just didn't like them. Nor was it looking through nostalgia goggles. My reasons for disliking it was poor writing, disjointed editing, and nonsensical plot.
Also, I just supremely dislike Abrams directing, regardless of what movie it happens to be.

RE: Favorite Youtubers?
@Auspice For the record, I too have a massive crush on Claire from BA. I'm pretty sure it's the salt and pepper hair.

RE: Good TV
I told myself I wasn't going to get CBS All Access. I refused to give them my money.
And then I read the initial reviews on Picard. And I realized, I couldn't deny the fact that I had been asking for this very show, for years. Finally something that goes further into the Prime timelines post ST Nemesis. Which is exactly what I've been asking for so goddamn long.
And it did not disappoint. I feel vindicated in how many references I understood from the number of times I watched TNG in its entirety. Looking in Picard's vault made me squeal in a way I am not ashamed of.
I passed on Discovery because I think it's a load of bullshit which abused and disrespected so much of Star Trek's lore(Klingons, spore drive for starters).
Firmly believe that Star Trek has righted it's current course with Picard. It's like everyone involved understands what has been established in the past from previous movies/shows and respects while also playing on and continuing from the last point.
I will watch the shit out of this. I haven't been this excited for something Star Trek related in....hell, a very very long time. Probably not since the premier of the last season of DS9? And then I'll probably watch the new Twilight Zone before ditching the subscription. All Access will get my money for now. And like with how I ditched Disney+ after I finished watching The Mandalorian, I'll do the same here.

@Jaded I will always remember him most as Kathless from TNG.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
No kidding. My SO went Target last night to get my go to Pedialyte, which is what I exclusively drink when I'm sick. They sent me a picture of the aisle where the Lysol and cleaning products were kept. It was pretty much empty. That's nuts.
And while I live in a state that's only had one confirmed case, it does make me think about how many cases are unrecorded. How many are just mild cases that people will simply sleep off and not report. Hell, the CDC even states to not bother going to an ER unless you've got legit pneumonia symptoms.
Also, don't buy masks. They're not going to work. And you're taking them away from hospitals who actually needs. Wild that we're having a mask shortage, but people are losing their minds. Plenty of people die by the normal flu every year, but that's something most don't think about. But when we give it a new name and produce mortality numbers, people start freaking out.
Now, I'm not saying I have the coronavirus, I don't actually know since the symptoms are almost exactly the same as any other variation of flu virus, but considering the work I do, I also wouldn't be shocked if I did.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@Aria I mean, it was a lot of people all at once. A combination of various people I talk to on a usual daily basis all going radio silent at once combined with no me fighting with my doctors to get my own meds refilled(they apparently lost which pharmacy they sent my prescriptions to) and my old man cat having surgery(he's fine, just sleeping a lot right now).
And I'm starting to think things that aren't actually a thing. The difference is I'm aware of it, instead of feeding into it taking precautions to tell myself that I'm thinking irrationally.
ETA: Sorry to hear about @insomniac7809. Hope things get better for you both.

RE: RL things I love
I'm not going to say that I love this, but, I finally got to do a "Per my last email" response to an email where I have to repeat the same thing because someone didn't get the point the first time.
I giggled.
