RE: Good TV
Been seeing a lot of hate for Masters of Universe on YouTube lately and frankly, I don't really get it. Like, people are losing their damn minds it. And it makes me wonder if the She-Ra remake got this kind vitriol.
Sure, it's not groundbreaking or anything, but I don't think it's that terrible by any stretch of the imagination.

RE: Critters!
@too-old-for-this I admit I get far more emotional thinking about the number of older, senior pets locked up and forced to live what's left of their lives within a cage, only to be put down eventually because nobody wanted them. I'm not taking anything away from non-profit shelters, the one I went to yesterday was really nice with a ton of play areas for the pets, both cats and dogs. And the one I adopt from will put many with foster families so a good many do get to live in a home, which I really appreciate. Trust me, if I had a house, I would already be fostering cats.
Still don't have a name for this old baby, as I was talking about it with my boss, saying "The name will manifest when it appears, you can't force a name.", my boss said "What if you named him Fester? 'Manifest'? Fester?"
I am tempted to name him that.

Bless you for adopting an older cat.
He came from a non profit and while they took great care of the cats there, all I could think about was "no pet should spend their last twilight years in a pen like that"
I know I will likely have just a few years with him. But if he gets a good home for those years, I'm quite alright with it.

RE: Critters!
We adopted a third cat recently. We like having three cats in particular and there has been a hole in me since losing my old man baby.
So we adopted another old man. I've thought that it's easier for kittens to get adopted than adult cats, and harder for senior cats. This old man is 14, but a big lump of love. He's so damn sweet. Obviously there's going to be some separation with the others while we introduce them to each other, but he's great.
Don't have a name for him yet. Those come organically.

RE: Good TV
@ganymede That's still an on-going thing, in which the onus falls completely on Netflix. For whatever reason, likely to save money, they hired non-VA union talent for a lot of the VA work, which is still going be a thing. So while the guy who does Prime does a passable job, it's by no means good.
That I think, ruined a lot of potential nuance. Especially when you act with a certain level of stiltedness to your voice that it almost sounds like you're trying to make a homage to Shatner.

RE: Good TV
Speaking of the War for Cybertron trilogy, I think Siege was far better than Earthrise, but only the premise that not a lot happened in Earthrise. As much as I enjoyed Siege, there's a lot of history and backstory that could've been explored, but the creators choose to focus on the literal last day of the war. Which fine, but I feel like it was a minor cop out.
Now Kingdom on the other hand I'm actually pretty excited about because it goes back to my all-time favorite Transformers series, being Beast Wars. I'm not really sure how they're going to pull it off, but I'm interested to see what they do when it releases this week.

RE: Good TV
@coin I think a lot of people's gripes was the fact that the trailers gave the expectation that there'd be a lot more He-Man when the first half the season is based more around Teela. Which is fine. Besides the fact that they only released half the first season, I think people should calm down a bit before getting out the pitchforks.

RE: Good TV
I think it's pretty good. It's better than I expected. I enjoyed it for what it is.
It reminds me a lot of Castlevania, beyond the fact that it's the same animation company.

I'm sure he would not be holding that trophy without a ton of injuries around the league. It takes just the right number of high profile injuries on the biggest teams in the league to put them there.
I mean, I think this outlook is a slippery slope to allowing in people saying "Yeah, but without X happening, then Y wouldn't of won out, so this puts in the legitimacy of how good Y really is as a player/team/etc."
And this isn't just a comment on basketball, but pretty much any major sport.

@waller Harden is also a huge drama llama so I'm not surprised the dude would be salty.

RE: The basketball thread
@arkandel In the post-game news conference, Giannis had some words regarding the need to sign that 5 year deal.
"I couldn't just leave. Coming back, I was like, 'This is my city. They trust me. They believe in me. They believe in us.' ... Obviously I wanted to get the job done. But that's my stubborn side. It's easy to go somewhere and go win a championship with somebody else. It's easy. ... I could go to a super team and just do my part and win a championship.
"But this is the hard way to do it," he continued, pounding the dais for emphasis, "and this is the way to do it, and we did it. We f---ing did it."
Not for nothing, but I feel like he just low-key threw shade at Lebron and Durant for doing it the 'easy way'.

RE: The basketball thread
@arkandel Giannis I think has cemented his legacy, at least in Milwaukee, he's a giant both literally and figuratively. Because his stat lines are incredible.

Just commenting to myself and for those who are not of the sportsball inclination that the Bucks won the finals in 6.
I like to think River would've lost his mind.
And for the record, it a good series. But I have a couple reasons to remember it.

RE: Crafting Thread Part ?
@crawfish I really love this. I've said it before, Mihaly has been the most background of background characters. I designed and created him to be a support character for @Aria. He was never meant to really amount to anything, or at least, that was my expectation. "A character to be played when time allowed." is the goal I had set for myself originally.
Makes me really happy to know that others put value into that character besides myself.

RE: RL Sads
I have to go to a funeral tomorrow. For a co-worker.
His name was River. He was well loved by everyone at my job. He had that kind of energetic that was infectious, and he was just the sort of person that was everyone's friend, despite wherever you sat on one issue or another. I thought him to a be a generally good person.
He had just moved from my department to another next to ours. Next door even, so we still saw him plenty, but after 2.5 years in my department, he wanted to move on, do something else. He had just started in what he viewed as a dream role that he could grow his career into. I remember him being so damn excited for it.
Well, nobody had heard from him for a few days, so his mother(who also works for our company but in a different deparment that's more HR related)went to check on him. It's said that she found him dead in bed. I don't know what he died of, and really, it's none of my business. I just hope it was in his sleep.
He was 26 years old. Far too damn young. And his own mother found him.
He loved the Milwaukee Bucks like nobody else and was so hopeful how they'd play in the Finals.
He loved his dog.
He was a good person. And now I have to watch him be buried.
I'm getting too old for this. I've buried a lot of friends in my life. And it never ever gets easier. So I remember his name and drink to his memory. And I have a feeling tomorrow after the funeral, I will drink. A good deal. I'll miss you, River. You were one of the good ones.

RE: RL Anger
Why fireworks?
Loud explosives used to celebrate victory in battle primarily used by people who have never actually been in a battle. Fireworks are pretty, don't get me wrong and I'm not shitty on someone's fun, but like a lot of things that touch on this, I have very complicated feelings on it. I'm not bitter at all and that's just something I deal with.
People generally ask me why I stay indoors on the 4th considering the fact that most people who know me also know my status as a veteran.
My general response, "Because what I did in the military is not worth celebrating." To note, I played around in air hangers trying to not kill myself with jet fuel. Good times.
To me, Memorial Day and Veterans Day are far more important than the 4th of July.
And to note, I spent the day yesterday building a computer for my girlfriend so she could play Sun Haven that new Stardew Valley crossed with DnD game. I think that was a far greater use of my time than trying to blow off my fingers.
