    • Wikifi your Mux's Help & News Files like a Fucking Pro

      ("Pro" status not guaranteed.)

Finally! @Chime started it, because she is the most tits-up awesome coder Mu*ing's had since Myrddin. She didn't let me break it, but she did say, "If you want to work on it, eh, whatever," which I took as extreme excitement that someone is going to package her hard work.

      And so here it is.

      • https://github.com/thenomain/Mu--Support-Systems/blob/master/Wiki Help and News.txt

This is designed for a straight-up copy into Muxify then drop the results onto your game.

However, your game probably doesn't have In-line SQL enabled. It might not even have Myrd's Mushcron. If it doesn't have these things it will install, but trying to use it will fail.

This does not have a tutorial on how to get these things going, but if you post here someone may be able to solve your dilemma. I will try to help.

If you have these two things, though, you're still not done. You want to read the Setup Help at the end and make sure that's done, as well. It involves access to your wiki's files directly, which you probably have if you have a wiki.

Questions or comments welcome and expected.

    • RE: RL Anger

This whole Brett Kavanaugh thing. It makes me ashamed. It makes me ashamed of being male. It makes me ashamed of being white. It makes me ashamed of being upper middle class. It makes me ashamed of being from his generation. It makes me ashamed of my government. It makes me ashamed of my country. There is nothing from his bad acting to his outrageous entitlement that doesn't make me angry, and on top of that I hit most of the labels that makes me outwardly similar to that monster. Fuck. That.

      That is all.

    • RE: What a refreshing feeling

I'm listening to the Shadowrun Returns soundtrack and plotting the future. I think the best we can do is remember who we were then and who we are now and that the more drama we cut out of our games the more fun they are.

When I think of Mushing as a form of improv, I become far less picky about posing.

It's made me far less picky about a lot of things.

    • Happy New Year!

As we close out 2018, a year that was tiring and stressful, I think we can all come together on one thing:

      Fuck 2016.

May 2019 be something more than another repeat of it.

Adding in Bloodlines (though, I'm not sure that's much of a code thing, other than editing a list, maybe)

How in the world are both you and Reno needing the exact same things at the exact same time?

I still have my notes to add Bloodlines. I'll be free Tuesday.

And then I'll work on Hurt Locker's re-tooling of the Fighting Merits.

So, so painful. The first line of the code file for Hurt Locker Fighting Merits is "the hell that is my life", but I'll get it done.

I will need a coat of kittens to help me through this.

      edit: Or a hat.

    • RE: What does Immersion mean to you in MUs?

Immersion on Mu*s to me is the same as Immersion in tabletop play: If I think the character as something with its own life, the world as something with consistent rules even if they're different from reality, if I can imagine the game as existing in its own right.

The more someone tries to push the "IC is the only thing that matters", the less immersed I am. I do not forget that I'm in front of a computer screen reading text. The more a game tries to tell me to ignore this, the less immersed I get, a Role-Play Uncanny Valley.

@kanye-qwest You can tell who the clique is by who upvotes every single post in this thread praising the game.

Yeah, glad I left. You guys can fuck right off.

Even a cursory glance through this page alone betrays that this statement is factually incorrect, just FYI.

A cursory glance through this thread is inconclusive.

And while I would love to see you, Admiral and Seamus have a discussion about the pros and cons, I'm hating to point out that this is the Advertisement thread.

(edit: I hate to point it out because the last few posts have been nothing more than "nuh-uh"/"is so" haterism/fanboyism, and an Actual Discussion Would Be Useful. But no. Alas.)

    • RE: Experienced Tiers or How much is too much?

This is what I honestly think about Tiers:

      They're stupid.

Look, give everyone 300xp (or whatever) and then go back to the slower-xp system that WoD/CoD expects.

Throwing people all over the map for what they can and can't get involved in just tweaks me the wrong way. I can elucidate, but for the moment it's just a knee-jerk reaction of "barf".

In my opinion and experience a good player can make just about any character type highly appealing.

@paris said in I owe a lot of people some apologies.:

People are just identifying the cause of the drama and want something done about it.

I think more that this group of people you're talking about wants what they think is right done about it.

Hell, even Surreality upvoted Faraday's words of caution, which informs my belief that Surr is apologizing first and wants the rest of the fallout to be considerate and fair, not slanted toward her own personal desires.

      That takes guts.

    • RE: Spirit Lake - Discussion

      @gangofdolls

I don’t read Hog Pit. If that’s where admin wants to use it, sure, but I still feel that an advertisement thread that does not allow any negative feedback, but allows positive feedback, is not useful, just as any other one-sided discussion is not useful.

My use of terms like “weasel” maybe qualifies it for the Pit, but I was and still am pissed off at any staff group that has hidden rules for what constitutes what kind of response they will accept to a lecture.

I refuse to read the Hog Pit or participate because it was and I imagine still is something of a trial of monkeys, and I’m not interested in that kind of pointless time-sink. I can spend that time helping games or players avoid games or discuss whether or not games have sincere problems.

But since sometimes even I cannot avoid shouting into the ass of the community, let the chips fall where they may, but the Pit is not the place for discussion.

What did you experience in your formative years that made you go "wow, that stuff is different and cool?".

      I read books.

Sorry that this isn't more exciting, but I read books and books and books.

You can blame the internet for why I don't read anymore. This is not hyperbole.

      I miss books.

@Derp said in PC antagonism done right:

I think that antagonism only works in a game if the staff are willing to say 'this is how the actual antagonism is going to go down, and if you step out of line with that, there will be serious consequences from both sides'.
