@thenomain Regarding white males of America, I doubt it.

We still run shit on both sides of the political spectrum.

The implication with this is that men on both sides of the political spectrum weren't getting away with sexual harassment, and yet here we are.

I’m sympathetic that this is shocking to many men and the individuals are to some women, but I’ll be blunt.

Every woman in your life probably isn’t shocked at this concept nor at its broad scope.

And I’m sorry to break it to you, but every industry is this bad.

I have an interesting follow-up question: Will the white males of America be held with their feet to the fire like this any time soon for treatment of the blacks here?

I want that to be the next thing, or the continued as the current thing, or that thing to not take over but run in parallel to this thing with similar effects.

On a way more serious issue, what the fuck has been happening in Hollywood? Dustin Hoffman is now apologising for sexual assaults he 'may have' committed?

Damn. I mean I figured things weren't great in that industry but damn.

      Repetition causes a normalizing effect.

In this case, the normalization is abstracting away from something that should never have been normal.

I believe that it keeps rolling because we've already spent far more than a year criticizing Trump for these things; it's going to internalize (and normalize) sooner or later, and that time just happens to be now.

Maybe enough people are realizing that double-standards don't stand up to enough scrutiny.

I know I'm behind the curve on this. I know I've been behind the curve on this for as long as I could manage, but Windows pushed the issue on me today, and oh my god, the new Skype makes me want to dig up Bill Gates' corpse and yell at it.

It doesn't matter that he's not dead yet, I can wait.

It's good to know your history.

Sure. By that rationale, we should all start playing TIE Fighter again before we go after SW: Battlefront II.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I'm assuming that TIE Fighter and SW: Battlefront 2 have the same studio and same elements and one has a natural progression to the other, and that the word "good" also means the word "absolutely necessary".

Er, sorry, what I meant to say was, "You say that like you didn't tie the two paragraphs together."

      @Thenomain said not long ago:

Or you could just play Witcher 3 and not have to worry about that, because damn that's a good game.

Because of all the latest games of the Story-Telling RPG Genre that I have recently played, Witcher 3 wins hands-down.

EA has been leaving all of BioWare's money on the table, lately, and that's just, well, that's depressing.

I tried to play again several years later and had a lot of fun, but accidentally went to some DLC content too early and didn't have an older save, so I got stuck, frustrated, and gave up.

I wouldn't bother. The Witcher III is eleventy billion times better, as is Horizon Zero Dawn.

It's good to know your history.

Like today, playing Knights of the Old Republic would be trite, but this is the first time some of that stuff had been tried and pulled off successfully. By modern standards KotOR's pacing is face-plantingly dull, but you can see where Mass Effect 2 started (as I consider this to be the absolute best of BioWare's games).

Or you could just play Witcher 3 and not have to worry about that, because damn that's a good game. Every time I hear the slightest noise of Cyberpunk 2077 out of CD Projekt RED I get goosebumps, even though it probably won't be until 2077 until we see it.

Um yes? I do remember? I remember all the plots because DA2 had the best story and best characters of all the DA games?

I have heard this a few times and while I try to give the benefit of the doubt to a company that could knock out some of the best storytelling in video games, but I don't see it. Even if I ignore Fenris (who I wanted to like, I really did) and Anders (who, having wildly enjoyed DA:A, I did not), I don't see it. I saw largely a series of shallow, far too short, and often vaguely referenced events that were tacitly linked together via not a whole lot of a lot.

This is absolutely a matter of preference, though I wish I could see it through the eyes of people who feel as you do about it. Ah well.

I didn't see anything that explained what happened when you rolled dice, except for damage. In the first system example on the game, you roll 5 dice and then what?

Not a criticism, but it's oddly missing.

Remember that plot in DA2 that wasn't about Merrill or Varric that was interesting? Yeah, me neither. Interesting aside: The woman who wrote for Merrill also wrote for Varric. (edit: Okay, Aveline was very good as a character, and I liked her little love plot. I did. It was heart-warming for Lady Man-Hands.)

I've been playing through Fallout 4 again, even though its stories are only a slightly better grade than DA2's. I find the game boring as sin. Why do I have over 700 hours logged in it? What is wrong with me?!

What, Paladins, conceived as the Bard of the Fighter class, not being great at everything?

Mind you it’s the duty of game designers to make every available option at least seem like fun; “clunky”is not the term you want to hear.

Wasn't it Gene Roddenberry who famously said that mankind of the future will understand their technology roughly as much as we do ours today? The average person of his day understood how to build a television just about as much as the Lords and Ladies of the future.

Personally, I think it strange that people can understand and accept Space Cowboys more than they can understand and accept Space Knights.

@thenomain On some MUD's I played on (Namely one WoT Diku derivative) they had an object that you could take say that Excalibur you looted off King Arthur (It wasn't fully converted at the time to WoT and had some base Diku zones still) and rename it, redesc it, etc, using ansi color and everything. Was pretty neat.

Yeah, it'd be nice to let people @create their own objects and rooms again, but as I'm not a fan of the giant purple penis brigade I'd have to create a more casual kind of game for it.

Maybe something involving three sci-fi universes colliding with our own.

      Possibly using the Cypher System.

I would assume something that you type +wear Purple Dress and, you get stuck with the pre-described Purple Dress description in addition to your base desc? I've seen a +wear system that let you mix-and-match stuff and it uses a [u()] to pull pieces (so you'd +wear green shirt/blue pants/black boots).

Yeah, I've coded that before. Super easy. So I went as far as allowing people to categorize so when they checked their description 'inventory', it would list all 'shirts', all 'pants', etc. The code went into my early softcoded help system, for people who didn't want to mess around in the server to add and change help and news files. Good days.

      @lithium

Ahh. We had coded inventory objects way back on DarkMetal. It's a very MUD conceit (even TinyTim and that era), but once we started creating generic inventory and multidescers, people preferred that much quicker.

If I had to code something that affected the character stats like this, I might consider it too. Objects are just plain fun, though I can see it quickly spiraling out of control. (Do I equip the red code object or the blue code object today? Will I end up looking like a WoW-style clown-school reject? Not things I would consider fun. Let me decide what the character looks like today.)
