      • Go to a place that seems interesting to me and announce that I'm there.

      @ThatOneDude said in Finding roleplay:

      But if you don't go to events, what do you do in RP?

      Rescue damsels, fight monsters, spend my loot on ale and whores. The same kinds of things that you do during events, only without the pressure that we're on a time crunch and that the Plot Must Be Resolved. I also get to socialize and plot and plan for greater deeds all on my own time. This last part is extremely important because I don't have time to just sit around and do everything. I can't (both because of my job and mental incapability) RP through a phone, and I have made promises for coding to people who have offered to pay me in everything except for RP--with the exception of the crew at Bump in the Night, to whom I'm grateful.

      (Note, this doesn't include the people who RP with me for free, most of whom are awesome people and all but a precious few at least are giving.)

      See, in the days before PrPs, people would either get together and have something happen and that leads to something else happening and so on or so forth, or staff would. I do not like the concept of PrPs for reasons above, but to re-state in this context are because they seem to be formulaic and that's not what I'm into.

      I am, to vent a little, frustrated at the Fallcoast Changeling plot going on right now as it's pretty much a matter of: Show up and participate to the forgone conclusion. Some people are way okay with this, and good on them, but for me there's no mystery, discovery, or agency. We're watching staff transform the sphere under the IC threat of "if you don't bad things will happen", knowing that the changes will happen anyway and nothing bad will actually happen. Well, nothing bad that I can't pretend my character isn't involved in anyway.

      So I do anything else instead. Involve myself in the opening of a new safe spot for Changelings? A++. Waiting an hour to pose one line how I am throwing rocks over the wall at the bad guys knowing that the good guys were destined to save the day anyway? D- See Me After Class. And I feel really bad about feeling this way because I know a shit-ton of work went into this, and I know that enough people enjoy it that I should just shut up and let them have fun. To you guys? This is nothing new from me. I'm just venting as an example and you can ignore this, or you know where to find me.

      I suppose to put it another way, my RP is mainly those things that happen between major events, and occasionally during them, occasionally causing them, just on nobody's schedule but my own.

      @Arkandel

      My secrets:

      • Check any hangouts list.
      • Ask people I know.
      • Listen to a channel that's the first step down from Pub, unless it's a narrower-focused game like Bump in the Night where Pub is already at that level.
      • Always have a non-Mush backup plan, like code or FO4. I get bored way easily, and use RP to fill my desire to hold conversations, whether real or imaginary.

      I have never used "Want RP" style information (never have I ever), but I have used "RP Preferences" style information. I extensively use lists of public hangout spots. I rarely use "where" itself because the information is too broad to find anything more than trends and to stalk someone.

      I don't use events code which feels a little strange but I have the crippling social fear that if I go to an event I'd be expected to know what I'm doing, and by rolling stats in front of a group of strangers may expose just how little I know what I'm doing with the game system.

      A Bluetooth keyboard with an iPad gives me a great deal of my keyboard shortcuts I carry over from OS X. It's not new, but I haven't had much reason to experiment with it and I'm able to do what needs to be done without much thinking. Neat.

      I say this in the least polite terms possible, but go to hell. Lithium and I were having two different arguments at each other, and I owned up to that. If you're not going to accept my explanation or apology, then kindly go fuck your self.

      Tone? My "control of tone" was my asking her to stop attacking what was to me out of fucking nowhere. Or is my tone to you suddenly okay because, oh no! We can't tell people that they're acting irrationally! I'll remember that the next time @Ganymede tries to be reasonable. So you can grow a second dick and double-fuck yourself.

      That's ... really depressing. It really is.

      I still have many issues about what just happened, tho, and I'm still afraid to express them. Which is also depressing. Oh well, time for my shitty job. Yay.

      It does answer my specific question, tho, about the conditions that Not All Men is a problem, so I won't complain. Well, not about that. I appreciate the candor.

      To be clear... I wasn't taking issue with anything in particular you said, but just trying to answer your question about why it can be a problem.

      Which is what I was asking for. Albeit, I didn't explicitly add the secondary that it must pass whatever reasonableness filter I as a human being am wearing, but I try to assure that reasonableness filter is reasonable.

      Really, so far the best answer was given to me in PM: The wikipedia article on "Not All Men". That's a thing? That is fucking horrible. No, I'm not talking about that. I was never talking about that. That's disgusting. I was, as Faraday continues, talking about this:

      And in response to some of the other sundry comments from the gallery, I will just add...

      If someone says "All X do Y" and the response is "No, not all X do Y, stop making sweeping generalizations" then I think that's a totally appropriate way to re-frame the conversation.

      If I tripped into a trope I didn't know about, I understand the outright disbelief and hostility (tho I still think being hostile about it does more harm than good), and shame on these trolls for confusing a legitimate remark with something that's bullshit.

      But I mean, of course. They're trolls. They succeeded to get someone they never even interacted with to blow up at someone else they never even interacted with. They controlled my conversation. Bravo, fuckers. Bra-vo.

      Lithium, I apologize for participating in this hellish farce of communications that we had.

      Edit for Double Post Avoidance:

      @Derp said in RL Anger:

      What's been really eye opening for me is the fact that we seem to not be disagreeing on the subject itself, but we're disagreeing about the language used in it.

      I don't know if "we" can be said, here, as "we" is largely Lithium and I doing what has amounted to talking at cross purposes. Really, with entirely different understanding and expectations of what was being said.

      Thanks to Faraday and my Anonymous Benefactor, I get it now. I don't know who else (except Tyche who, let's be honest, is being pretty Tyche by picking at the lynchpin) is participating that "the community" is something that needs abandoning.

      All we have to do is shift language, and then we're mostly on the same page. But we're bickering about whether the shift in language is even the right call. It seems silly.

      I'm not. Hell, now that I know what the rest of the language is, I no longer see an argument. I still have my peeve, but it doesn't seem conflicting to anything else said.

      P.S. Are you saying that #notallmen isnt' the sort of thing that is distracting and derails a conversation regarding this topic?

      Are you telling me that 141 characters isn't enough to have a nuanced conversation? Or that using self-identifying labels instead of clarifying your position is likely to cause harmful miscommunication, because I'm pretty sure it's both.

      Also, I don't know what this #notallmen movement is, but I'm pretty sure I already hate them.

      There are times when it makes more sense to back away from a conversation with one person to have a more productive one with another.

      It seemed clear to me that you and @Lithium were missing one another in the night.

      Yeah, I got this feeling at the end, too.

      36 Questions Women Have for Men.

      My first thought? "No, not all women." I have no clear idea which "women" are being represented here and I'm left to guess. That's a shitty way to approach an issue, and I hope a bunch of women are pissed off at being miscategorized like this.

      @faraday

      I did try to clarify what conditions I was responding to. Twice, even. Let's say I'm a male gamer. Let's say that someone said that I exist in a group that is being said to do something that doesn't always, doesn't even usually happen. Now it's "Asian women can't drive."

      Here, at least, we're getting to a place where it's easier to see that my understanding and experience could be to blame. Or at least that different people are framing the discussion differently.

      I did /try/ to clarify my frame of reference. Something shitty happened to a female gamer. That's shitty. I agree. Are we still talking about similar instances? I wasn't. I am sorry if that's the core of the complaint against me , and I can understand why hackles would be raised.

      It does answer my specific question, tho, about the conditions that Not All Men is a problem, so I won't complain. Well, not about that. I appreciate the candor.

      @Ganymede

      It makes as much sense as I'm probably going to make of it. In the case of Black Lives Matter, I can understand the issue of someone focusing the issue away from fixing a specific social issue. I'd be pretty ticked off too.

      What I don't know is the statement that comes before "Not All Men". I regret that I don't have the social language to comprehend what is being said, but those instances where I would use the phrase involve being labeled unjustly. This is, in the sense of this thread, something that triggers an emotional response.

      So no, it doesn't really make sense to me, but I have a better understanding of what doesn't make sense; the ground state of the conversation being attempted by those who object to the response.
