Hm? The colors on those posts are from the code here on the forums, not on the game.

To be fair, we could probably put up posts in those colors, though that would raise a few questions about our intentions in doing so. And even more, given that some of it is in italics.

We could call the game a Mud, for starters.

      @Arkandel,

I don't know, but look up further in the thread and you can see it. I'd rather it be left alone. It won't be, so I said it first.

      Sinister continues the discussion:

Just so you know, Sinister is still here, and the rug has not been pulled out
from under anyone. If you have jobs, I will continue to process them. If you
have questions, I will answer them. If you wanna run plots or whatnot, I will
still fulfill those things too. Right now, the only things that are changing are
that we won't be approving new characters for the nonce, and auto-xp is turned
off. But you can continue to play for as long as the lights are still on, or
until Deviant decides to start the engine again, and I will continue to support
you in those roles. So please don't feel like you've got to pack it in if you're
not quite ready to do that yet. We know that you have stories you want to tell,
and I'm fully here to support you in telling those, until you decide that you're
      storied out.

It's important to clarify that we're not giving the game to Sinister, but he has agreed to maintain it in a kind of status-quo. He knows that if he goes too far, Deviant (neé @Coin) will ask me to pull the plug. We're all on-board with this, and we'd much rather let people dork around than slamming the doors closed to the people who are still logging in.

edit: Yes, he has a Wizbit now. It would have been unreasonable and inappropriate to ask someone to maintain a game without one. He doesn't have any of the magic passwords. @Coin does but he keeps losing and forgetting them, like a forgetful landlord, leaving me, the head of repairs and improvements, to hold all the keys. Some people's children, I swear.

I know this is going to draw fire from the haters who want to hate, but this was posted on Eldritch and so I bring it here:

      Hey, babies.

So there are a lot of reasons for this, and I'm not really going to list them,
but they include real life, lack of motivation, and other factors that are
personal and also just probably not going to change.

Effectively immediately, we're shutting down automatic XP gains. Sinister is
going to stick around to handle any requests you guys might have if you want to
keep playing, but as it is, we're moving into the 'coasting' portion of this
game. Stick around, hang out, play with people--whatever you want.

Some day I may open Eldritch again with new purpose, but as it stands, this year
was probably just not the best for starting and running a game for any of us
that chose it. (And yet much like having children, when is the best moment to
      start a game, amirite?)

So I'm not closing the doors for you guys--you can keep playing and telling
stories. But yeah. We're pretty done.

Sorry for those that this inconveniences.

      So it goes.

      - D.

This goes for me, as well. It was a better-than-average run. We messed up, we over-extended and over-promised, and we learned a lot in the process. A sincere and heart-felt thank you to everyone who supported us.

I'm looking for that one Star Wars SAGA game that's mainly a Mud or Mud-like. There's someone there sith-side who I'm looking for, which will be a challenge unto itself.

I was listening to a Top Music of 2015, mostly rock/R&B, and I wasn't immediately disgusted by it. This means that I am still open-minded to music, which means I can be open-minded to new ideas and presentations, which means that I am not old.

Here's to everyone who can manage to be an adult without being old.

It's also not really fair to say that comic book writers -- at least superhero comic book writers at the Big Two -- are the only people involved in their process.

Then change the question to what makes sense. The goal is clearly stated, so the information is interesting for education, but not really the point.

      😕

      @faraday

Fair, but not without correlation. A comic book writer is all about giving the powers to a character based not on a list of stats but on the needs of the story they want to write, from a list of known abilities and personalities.

Comic book fans get their noses bent out of shape when their favorite character does something that they don't think is appropriate or right, and seem to follow writers for this exact reason.

So in asking how writers come up with this, what I hope is that through example players can be encouraged to think of themselves as writers of the story and not players of a character.

I have no problem taking Vincent Baker's "say yes or roll the dice" as a valid play style, but my scant experience with superhero role-playing games have it either super-hard stat systems (M&M) or whatever-makes-sense-within-reason (trait-based). As an amateur Mu* Historian, I remember more of the latter than the former.

In short: I'm pretty sure I'm a good team player. But I'm the team player that will stand firm on issues that relate to my players or that will lead, in my experience, to bad outcomes. When that happens, I have to ask if I want to continue to volunteer on the team, or move on so as to avoid a messy game divorce.

This also isn't what you wrote. You can't always push interpretation on the reader; you know that. Teamwork relies on back-and-forth and an understanding of those around you, which is exactly why I called you in particular out on sounding like you made an ultimatum.

Your clarification is, in my opinion, more important than the statement it was clarifying.

I have some problems in how your words look, to me, like you are otherwise saying: I will do what I think is right and if you disagree then I will judge that on my own terms.

This does not look like the willingness for teamwork that I would want to see, or try to give, when I staff.

Problem is, that means headstaff is the de facto lead for all major calls.

We see what happened when headstaff got overburdened.

That's the #1 reason a middle tier is a necessity.

If WoD Mu* Spheres is all you know, then Spheres suck and middle management is a necessity.

If you've experienced games where people can be in charge of a major group and not have it a fiefdom, then the lines become quite blurred.

Autonomy is not complete autonomy. I wasn't suggesting a carte blanche; only the freedom to do what I believe needs to be done.

I understood this point. My point was: What if you believe something needs to be done and your superiors disagree? Either you are foolish for expecting never to be questioned, or they are foolish for telling you that they won't ever get in your way.

      Not all managing is micro-managing.
