      How is OR as a community not entitled to define the criteria of games that the community includes?

      You are entitled to define your site as you see fit. You are not entitled to define the hobby without input from all parts of the hobby, even if you disagree with them. You have taken great pains on your site to present it as a gateway to the hobby, as a place for intelligent conversation.

      And yet, you refuse reasonable conversation here.

      You are handily ignoring pretty much every other post I've made here, where I have answered your question at least twice. This is why I stopped responding to your posts, or even reading your site, and I'll encourage others to do the same.

      One of the Optional Realities carnival hucksters boiled down this entire thread to (paraphrased) "this entire debate is just like science fiction vs. fantasy and I'm not going to get bogged down in it".

      That's right. I think I reacted similarly at the time (c.f. 'You are not entitled to your opinion'.) While I'm not opposed to standing against our group of Mushers, I don't disagree that trying to continue this conversation is a lost cause when, as you and others say, most points of contention are outright dismissed. It's like arguing with a wall.

      @Jeshin, I'm sorry for your loss. Remember Rule #1 in any hobby: Your life always, always, always comes first.

      I think the way we've been doing it has already been "more time on the game means greater perks" in the same way that staff get perks from simply being staff, such as access to the staff channel and the ability to use their position to encourage their agenda.

      After playing on games where +sheets are public automatically, I have no idea how player STs function without them.

      Do these games have the possibility of PvP?

      I checked just now, and you can also ignore an entire category. One good and easy way to keep it off your radar and from filling up your new-post notifications.

      I liked Thane (chose romance option with a Femshep and Thane, because it worked), but wan't the same way DA:O Anders or DA2's Merrill, knowing that a lot of people hate Merrill for the same reason I like her. Bioware writes characters. And because of that, I will continue giving EA money, goddammit.

      @tragedyjones,

      I recently went down nostalgia way and tripped over Aether's internet archive, which includes maybe the best written "for people who have never seen this nonsense before" set of instructions. Might want to look?

      I can't be arsed to finish Witcher 1. I'm trying, but it's so very, very eh. Yet in spite of how dated it is, I could go back and re-play Mass Effect right now, ugly weapon management and all.

      Also, in Witcher I feel compelled to get the complete set of collectable cards for fucking. (So much eyerolling. So much.)

      Meh meh meh meh meh. Okay, enough complaining about Witcher.

      I have no sense to organize logs this way. I still think it's kind of creepy, but I used to be one of the people who would argle-bargle about anyone who did so, but nowadays I don't care as long as some staffer doesn't come along and require it. As so many people have said, they can be faked, but in my too-long career I've had less than a handfull of staffers demand logs (or it didn't happen). I think it's fair to say that all of them were shitty staffers, though one of them apologized for it much later so it's water under the bridge now.

      I regret the existence of wheader() as a separate things.

      And so, my header is really:

      • header( <text>[, <width>] )

      And:

      • wheader( <text>) -> header( <text>, width( %# ))

      TAH-DAH!

    • Must-Have Mux Functions?

      Both @Chime and I share a love-hate relationship with Mux Code these days, but she keeps going back to make possible changes to the server to make it more usable, and I keep doing softcode bits for it. Right now my medium-term project with this is bringing the core SGP install up to date.

      With that, I present a list of what I have put in as mandatory functions. Input or additions welcome.

      (The addition I don't have here and am waffling on is ictime(). Seems like something that would belong to a different system.)

      • isstaff(): Not just 'is staff?' but levels for 'wizard' and 'admin/royalty' too.
      • header()/footer()/divider()/wheader()/etc.
      • msg(): Instead of having multiple ways of formatting '<game> message', we should have one
      • titlestr(): Makes Text Look a Lot Like This
      • lmax()/lmin(): max/min with a delimiter
      • isic(): for a different system?
      • shortdesc(): for a different system?
      • vcolumns()/vtable(): Chime and my vertical-column-output code
      • crumple(): trim() + squish(), I use this a lot
      • plural()
      • say(): simple way to format input into say/pose/emit output
      • lpmatch(): list-pmatch
      • width(): a replacement to built-in width() that uses a user-definable '&width' attribute

    • RE: Eldritch - A World of Darkness MUX

      My guess:

      Mis was seeing the "5xp for level 1 of a different Moon Gift" as the XP throttle. This is assuming that you can buy Moon Gifts out of Auspice, but in this case Onyx Path means this is how much it would cost to start a second Moon Gift, when we get to the point that you can. So it's not a throttle; it's a clarification made before the situation exists.
