    • RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning

This game looks really interesting to me, especially as it approaches beta, but I have been curious about the tasks.

Are there ones you have to complete daily? I'm fine with weekly, but leery of anything that's going to need maintenance on a daily basis. I just dunno if I'm going to be in the mood to log in that often, even if I'm able to (and I won't be sometimes).

Pitch reminds me of Friday Night Lights (which is maybe my favorite series ever), in that it uses baseball as a backdrop for character stories (though Pitch is probably better about baseball than FNL was about football at this point). I'm digging it so far. Hope it sticks around.

MUSH of the Dead exists, though I can't speak for it, apart from its existence.

I didn't play either Fifth World or The 100 for any length of time enough to comment extensively on them, but I will say my issues for Not Sticking Around were quite different.

I feel like the criticisms of the headstaff spot-lighting their own PCs were a lot more applicable to Fifth World.

Maybe The 100 had these problems too, but the thing that made me want to log out and not come back were the other players.

Whether this represents growth or just me being annoyed by different things at different times, I don't know.

I LOL'd for real when I went looking for this thread, briefly couldn't find it, and then realized it was started as an advertisement for The 100.

Oh, the twists and turns of...6 months of time.

That hate in my world still sits with Witchcraft and Wizardry (seriously why require people set whether or not they would allow their char to be rostered if you're just gonna ignore it anyway?!).

I was so fucking weirded out when I saw an old character of mine being played by someone else there. Not cool.

Of all the many problems with people in this hobby, I don't think setting up private games that are straight-up private sandboxes is one of them. If anything, given the track record of the staffers, this is probably what they should be doing.

If I'd been a long-term Fifth World player I might be put out by the game reappearing in that fashion, but meh.

I enjoy both The Flash and Supergirl on about the same level. I'm not too deeply invested in either of them, but I find them fun and engaging. Very interested to see what Supergirl does this season on The CW, which seems like a better fit for it than CBS ever was.

Anybody familiar with MUSH of the Dead (http://mushofthedead.com/)?

I'd like to know if this particular brand of fuck is staffing on other games, or alternatively if he's incorrectly attaching himself to another game.

People who bought a registered version back in the day can give you their codes if they've got them (mine has worked for a few friends). I think that's the only way at this point.

I wanted to like The Good Place because Kristen Bell but I couldn't.

I'm enjoying it so far, but I'll watch anything Mike Schur does. The end of the third episode made me interested in where they're going, since it implies other problems baked into the afterlife than just Bell's character.

That made me sooooooooooooooooo happy, along with Tatiana Maslany's win for Orphan Black.

'Second Pass' is one of those games I regret missing. I only stumbled upon it a year and a half or so ago, when it seemed definitely in its twilight days, but I really liked its rules and the way it handled Pern as a setting.

I notice these things in Mr. Robot. More than any other show I can recall, this show captures its atmosphere and mood superbly and with a tense sense of foreboding I can't escape.

The creator is also directing every episode this season, which is super rare in TV (can't recall if this was the case with the first season or not, though I don't think so). I feel like this is part of what gives it such a strong sense of atmosphere.

    • RE: Dragon Age: Dread Wolf's Rise

While I think DA has an interesting setting, it's basically a fantasy pastiche (like ME is a sci-fi pastiche). If you're passingly familiar with fantasy elves and fantasy dwarves and fantasy religion and magic, you can get the vibe pretty quickly. Playing an elf or dwarf or mage would require further reading, but I think you can get by without playing the game. Ideally the wiki will be fleshed out with some basic info for total newbs, though.

@flahgenstow said in Threads of Pern:

And the author Anne McCaffrey had several games that she blessed with her hand?

McCaffrey seemed more involved in MU*s (at least in terms of 'authorizing' them) than most authors back in the 1990s, which led to a lot of weird rules around canon and permissions and dragon names that couldn't be reused from MU to MU (and other nonsensical stuff I'm sure I'm forgetting because I never went too deep down the Pern rabbithole). That stuff hasn't been a factor for a loooooong time, though. Hilarious as some of it is to think about now.

This tempts me more than I thought Pern MU*s were capable of tempting me at this point. It's been so long that one might be refreshing.

    • RE: General Video Game Thread

I now own an X-Box 360 controller for my PC.

I played a little Bioshock with it tonight, which is a good example of the reason I got it. In general I prefer the mouse/keyboard but there are some games (shooters, especially) where I don't feel like I'm getting the best experience. It felt much more fluid with a controller, for me at least.
