They're making a brilliantly cast TV series with Gaiman's fingers all up in the mix.

And the showrunner is Bryan Fuller, who has my heart forevermore. I'm a little worried about how he'll split his time between American Gods and the new Star Trek, but everything I've heard so far has me really psyched for it.

@Arkandel I sometimes want to track down the original GoT pilot, where Jennifer Ehle played Catelyn Stark (I'm sure it exists on the Internet but I'm a lazy, lazy person).

I'm pretty meh on the new Star Trek movies. I enjoyed-ish the first one as an action movie but I agree it didn't 'feel' like Trek, and I disliked the second one pretty intensely.

That said, the thing I admired about them is how well-cast they are in terms of actors who evoke the original characters. I loved Quinto and his interactions with Nimoy in particular, but Yelchin was definitely great at doing Chekhov, and seemed very talented in his other work. Incredibly sad loss.

There's so much weirdness about downvotes I've stopped using them, even though I kinda like having a way to convey mild disagreement that's not worth posting, as well as mild agreement that's not worth posting.

This game is not a thing for me but there are certainly stranger pseudo-sex games online, so good luck to them I guess.

This isn't something I've personally ever been tempted to buy into, but I would have LOVED getting something like this each month when I was a kid. My fellow geek friends who have a couple of boys really enjoy it.

      @WTFE said in Kushiel's Debut:

It was largely because of @Sunny that I was going to give Kushiel's Debut a look, likely over my enforced summer vacation in Canada. Now it looks like the staff and its fellating hangers-on are exactly the wrong fit for me.

This is what bums me out as well. The theme isn't really my bag, but she'd been such a booster of the game here that it was on my 'should really give a look when I have brainspace' list. Even from afar, this is the kind of break that's depressing.

However, if what Sunny claimed is true and you took anger over a game out on her on FB then that ranks right up there with Elsa's angry e-mails and well the e-mail sent by Skaldia. It also brands you as a person I would avoid at all costs.

      This right here.

Sunny's account of what actually happened as far as the plot goes isn't, to me, that awful. It's not great, but these kinds of oversights happen and, in my experience, they aren't malicious a lot of the time. I'm also fine with the GM not involving the entire game in something (though something world-changing when you aren't running other events regularly is something else).

But the FB comments and that email posted here come off as nasty, whatever happened, and the responses in this thread from KD staff have been really tone-deaf. I'd like to think this is a heat-of-the-moment response that they'll look back on when things have cooled down and regret, but it still isn't good.

    • RE: Can RP be art?

@Roz said in Can RP be art?:

Totally. It's collaborative writing, and writing can be art.

I've been in scenes where I felt the same creative rush I feel when I'm in a really good writing groove. A very, very few scenes. I could probably count them on my hands with fingers to spare, and I've been doing this for 15+ years. But they're what keeps me coming back.

Is that 'art'? I don't know. I think the comparison to a jam band with friends in a garage is a good one. Or one of those 'wine and painting' classes. You are not creating high art, but you're doing something creative and fun, and that's enough most nights.

    • RE: Character Rosters

I like rosters if they don't go into too much detail about a character. Just give me a name, a concept, and a pre-made +sheet, and that's awesome. Gives me an easy jump-off point to make something m y own. Give me a background filled with details I can't deviate from and map out every relationship for me? I'm NOPE! on that.

Surprised it's still running. I thought it had finally been swallowed into the great black void, and we could all breathe a sigh of relief at its death. Oh well.

      There's also a Firefly one I've been meaning to look at. That's a space western...so it's close?

There's a Firefly MUSH not affiliated with Brooke and Brice?

      Intrigued, I am.

      Would love some DA RP.

I'm less concerned about FCs in general than 'some rando playing Hawke' in particular, especially if the game is going to attempt to touch on some of the DA2 story points. It's not really my bag, but I'll give it a look anyhow.

      • To this day I do not know why some children poop in the display toilets. I just don't. I have two. They don't poop in display toilets...

This isn't one of mine (my thankless mall job was as a barista, which I more or less enjoyed), but I had friends who worked in the department stores who told me of multiple occasions of finding people who'd urinated in dressing rooms. Boggled my mind but it happened...I don't want to say 'frequently', but 'more than twice' is 'frequent' to me when it comes to peeing in dressing rooms.

    • RE: New Player Onboarding

      @Bobotron
I definitely feel like there was more of an assumption, when I started back in the late 90s, that you'd get randos wandering in who had no idea wtf a MU* was. I remember a 'New Player Tutorial' walk-through of rooms after you logged in being pretty commonplace when I started (just a series of rooms that would explain posing, channels, etc.), and those have largely disappeared, at least on games I play.

I'd played on MUDs previously, so it wasn't as foreign to me as it would be to someone coming in from Tumblr, but I feel like the barrier for entry has gotten quite a bit steeper as the community's aged.

    • RE: The 100: The Mush

I feel like the 'Game sucks' and 'Game is awesome' sides have been pretty evenly split here, and even in being kind of annoying about their positions in spots. So that's as even-handed as a debate on the Internet gets, I guess. To me it indicates all the stuff in this thread should be taken with a big grain of salt, but it's probably valuable if I ever wander back.

My own experience on the game wasn't terrible and I think it has potential once it gets beyond the initial high-intensity growth spurt, but it wasn't my thing at this exact moment (in large part because of the 'playing angsty teenagers' things, but that doesn't mean anyone I encountered was playing them horribly). Which is a very uninteresting opinion, I know. So it goes.

I think I know the game you're talking about. I've known people involved and I know a lot of them wanted it to work (I was currently Not-MUSHing when it was going on).

Yeah, it certainly wasn't for lack of trying. Very much the wrong time, but I've come to the conclusion it probably wasn't a workable theme for a public game long-term anyway. At least, not in the way I'd like that theme to exist. There are compromises you could make with how the pairs function to make it more workable but, meh.

@Auspice said in The 100: The Mush:

But there -are- settings that don't lend well to a MU, but are nonetheless very cool. Sense8? Super cool concept. It'd be good for a small RP group to do privately, but as a MU it'd be terrible.

Buddy of mine tried to get a Pacific Rim game off the ground that didn't fall into place, for various reasons. Many of them RL ones out of his control, but I feel like some of it was how difficult it was to get people to app in as pairs cooperatively, and to sync up players who came in solo into functional jaeger piloting relationships.

I would love to RP it, because it's got amazing potential for both interpersonal character stuff and big stompy robot violence, but it's probably best left to a smaller, closed group.

I still kinda miss my character. So it goes.
