George ZImmerman's latest circus. It's not so much anger as disgust but this topic fits well enough.

RE: Where Can I Play When I work Nights?posted in A Shout in the Dark
@Cobaltasaurus Not sure if you have any interest in supers but you could log in as a guest on Empire State Heroes and see who's on. Since I'm asleep, I don't know how many players are on at those times and active but of our two plot staff, one is in Hawaii and the other is in Australia so their times definitely overlap with yours.

RE: Pay to Play MUSHing?posted in Mildly Constructive
You could probably get around any problems with a button to the charity donation page and having players make the donation in the name of X Mush with the email address to confirm it. That way there's no money changing hands except directly to the charity.

Basically I view the block buttons as the social equivalent of ad blockers: a tool to eliminate the irritating and repetitive from your digital experience.
Yes. Also, my time has value. No one has a right to my time. And we have certainly had people who post the equivalent of 'your face is stupid' here.

So, The Preacher.
I don't know the comic and I'm not a fan of 90s Iron Age to begin with. But it came after FtWD so I watched it. I left me pretty uninterested. How did those of you who were looking forward to it like it?

I got into RP because I grew up using a computer and was part of the AOL Chatroom Roleplay crowd of the 1990's.
Did you ever play Gemstone III?

Definitely prefer modern or somewhat futuristic.

So not only do people ignore where they're going while texting, now they're doing it playing this game?

@Kay Hey Shulkie. I played Nick/Phase on CC. Damn, that was about 12 years ago too. If you're looking for a supers game, I think CoMux is probably the best one out there currently.

RE: The elusive yes-first game.posted in Mildly Constructive
So, question.
How is this proposed game different from Dark Metal? And what's to stop it from becoming Dark Metal?
Caveat: I never played there. I've only heard stories. But to my knowledge, it was an open cgen, free for all where players could basically do what they wanted and might made right. I could be wrong in that impression and I know there are people here who played there so they can say better if I am.

@TNP - Understood! As I asked the others, would you be wiling to expand on why? The more feedback I get the more helpful it is.
Sure. Part of it is much of what @ixokai has said. I'm also one of the staff on Marvel: 1963 and sometimes the historical setting can be a headache to figure out what fits. Even earlier will be worse.
Speaking as a potential player, I'm kind of superhero historied out Speaking from a staffly perspective, setting it in the 30s-40s will limit potential concepts. You're going to need to scale back all tech concepts by almost a century. Power armor users? Cyborgs? Androids? Giant robots?
It can be done but it's a huge pain in the ass to keep the feeling of the decade while not telling someone no outright.

Yes. Do you need that kind of person on your FB, let alone in your life? Alternatively, you can tell him point blank how stupid and offensive that was and to never post that kind of crap on your wall again. I unfriended my brother a while ago. But we've never really been close.

RE: How did you discover text-based gaming?posted in Mildly Constructive
Started with BBS games (anyone remember 300 baud modems?). I don't remember where I saw an ad for it but I started to play Gemstone III on GEnie back in the early 90s. There was the Sierra Network too.
Edited to add: Trade Wars. That was the name of the BBS game.

Zsa Zsa Gabor.
You know, I really don't give a damn about celebrities. And she was certainly not cut down in her prime. But I'm getting tired of hearing about people dying whose names I recognize and have encountered in various ways for a very long time. Really, it's enough.

Yes, it's not an SW game but you could certainly import a character from there.

As an analogy, think of how a gay man may be concerned with PCs mincing and fellating in public on a game.
I can deal with the fellating but the mincing always irritates me.
