In an attempt to answer @TNP's original question, there are at least 2 games opening in January of 2016.

      Which games are those?

One is entitled Dust to Dust, being created by out very own @Sunny. The other is, at least for now, apparently invite only so I won't say much, other than I won't be playing there for personal preference.

Do/did you play in a tabletop game now or in the past?: I have tried tabletop several times in the past but it never clicked for me.
What games(s) do/did you play as tabletop?: D&D, oWoD (VtM), Call of Cthulu and Traveller RPG.
Are/were you the GM/ST/DM at your tabletop?: No
Would you tabletop if you had the opportunity?: Probably not
Do you have the opportunity but choose NOT to tabletop?: Yes
Misc: For me MUSHing is a creative writing exercise. Tabletop isn't and so it doesn't have the same appeal.

I find this quite intriguing, and not in a bad way. To me, RP was probably originally an escapist fantasy, and eventually as a bit of a creative outlet for drama and story crafting. But I have never considered what I do in a game to be "creative writing" so much as Roleplaying but with words.

Do/did you play in a tabletop game now or in the past? I have in the past, for about as long as I have been a MUSHer, but more often overall
What games(s) do/did you play as tabletop? oWoD, nWoD, Shadowrun, Exalted, Aberrant, Cyberpunk 2020, D&D 2-4, Trinity, Scion, Adventure, BESM, Silver Age Sentinels, Alternity
Are/were you the GM/ST/DM at your tabletop? About 50/50 for the first 10 years, less and less as time has gone on
Would you tabletop if you had the opportunity? I honestly don't know anymore. I have a group I could go back to any Friday, but I generally find myself doing DIFFERENT nerd things.
Do you have the opportunity but choose NOT to tabletop? See above.
Misc: I think that tabletop is great when it works!

    • Do you Tabletop?

I have often said that I approach MUSHing from a tabletop background. But I know that some people, perhaps even a majority of us, don't have access to or never have tabletopped, or don't anymore.

So a quick survey, my answers to follow.

Do/did you play in a tabletop game now or in the past?

So not only did I finally remember to pay this medical bill I couldn't pay online, but while on hold I simply demolished my score on the dinosaur jumping game in Chrome.

I will say that the massive gap between editions is probably a good thing. Masquerade had a 2nd Edition in a year and Revised within 7 or so. Requiem went from 04-13 with a single edition.

Thematically Werewolf changed more than vampire. Mechanically Werewolf also changed more, but vampire do change a lot.

For the WoD Stuff, no concrete answers yet. Onyx Path is still working on them, but they may be immaterial.

    • RE: Let's Talk Metaplot

I have only played one one game that, TO MY KNOWLEDGE, had a major gamewide Metaplot, and that was The Reach.

      What worked:

      • Staffers, primarily @EmmahSue, worked tirelessly to try and keep momentum and logical cohesion.
      • Most spheres seemed to have something important to do, or at least I know werewolf did
      • A ton of background was written and held to.

What, I feel, did NOT work:

      • It could be difficult to get involved, at least for me, and at least in some spheres.
      • There was a lot of misinformation between what was initially told to players and what Roanoke changed some things to

      What I didn't like, personally:

      • I disliked the entire overall theme of the metaplot, but I am a big anti-lovecraft guy
      • I didn't like the way The Reach did families, thematically or mechanically.

Wow if this keeps up WoD edition wars will be almost as amusing as watching people complain about which version of comic continuity is the best.

Whoa now, let's not say things we can't take back.

Per Martin Ericcson, the new WoD lead at Paradox Interactive:

"Hia! I favour using the term Lead Storyteller instead of the more corporate / impersonal Creative Director or whatever. I'll be stewarding the WoD storyline across all media formats and guard it's themes and moods across multiple game lines working with multiple teams and products. My personal WoD collection includes a HUGE amount of NWoD material next to my beloved OWoD and Promethean is one of my all time favourite games. That being said, it's too early for me to even hint at our plans. The deal got done a few days ago, so thank you for your patience. The dark has a purpose."

Per Rosecond Bailey on the OP forum:

'We knew this deal was brewing, but can't talk about it right now.

As far as I know, this includes all White Wolf games still owned by CCP, including both Worlds of Darkness and Exalted. It does not include White Wolf games now owned by other people, such as Scion, Trinity, and Scarred Lands."
