    • RE: Character Information: Wiki or Mu*?

I do 95 percent of my MUing from a phone. I generally prefer info on a wiki instead of trying to figure out archaic + or @ or who knows what commands and switches to get the info I need and even then the formatting isn't always all that nice to read on a phone screen.

But.. I think it all should be available on the MU AND the wiki. We have the technology now to make it not a huge headache

    • RE: Theme feedback

Some basic definitions of thing would definitely be good to start. I think quite a few people just have no idea what some terms are when you throw them around.

noir? I know it's casa Blanca but couldn't really tell you anything else.

      Diesel punk? See previous.

Two Fisted Tales? I know this wasn't on your game but another example of a theme term that I've never seen before and have no idea what it means.

Basically, don't assume your players have a clue. Runescryer gave a really good example of some defining things that I certainly wouldn't have know were thematic (if they are!)

    • RE: Character Information: Wiki or Mu*?

Putting info on the MU itself does not necessarily make it easily accessible.

For example, at a MU I was recently trying out I was trying to find out the switches for the events system. It took 7 attempts of various combinations (help) and (events) before I finally got the help file for the +events command to come up.

    • RE: Magicy Shenanigans - high fantasy or more modern

There is always Dresden files rpg. I believe that mush code is still available.

Also Could ask the folks at spirit lake for their code that could probably be modified (relatively) easily if people wanted to use fs3

    • RE: Characters You Enjoyed Playing

Luecas my blademaster Tower Guard from Tarmon Gaidon. Though I didn't start as a know-nothing trainee like in Ark's Wheel of Time example I did move from being an experienced warrior to instructor in the White Tower, to fleeing to the Little Tower after the split and then eventually just getting tired of being a pawn for Aes Sedai shit and murdering one in her sleep for being so manipulative. He was one of the few characters on the MU to being given a heron-marked sword earned through roleplay and time instead of newer system that was implemented where they were given out as participation trophies (literally)

Also Mikhail Volkov, my irritable Russian Warden from Dark Spires. The bad cop to everyone else's good. He had spent time in a gulag in the Soviet Union and hadn't cracked so he had no patience for those that did.

I've seen it work out really well too, but was structured so that each PC leader was paired with a staff leader too.

    • RE: Wheel of Time MU*

Using the Tat's spell system from Spirit Lake is exactly what I was doing with Patterns of an Age. It works pretty well for a lot of things, but some weaves are just going to be difficult to put into that context... but that's fine really.

Tat's system is awesome, but unless you've got the time (I turned out not to), I'd stick with regular FS3 and just some simple guidelines/weapons/skills to mimic channeling like some of the other magic based games have (the nazi punching one I can't remember the name of, for example)

    • RE: The limits of IC/OOC responsibility

@ganymede said in The limits of IC/OOC responsibility:

I feel like sometimes people clamber for positions of power before considering that other players, who are trying to have fun, will require some of their online play time for their PC's needs/wants. If you're going to take on a leadership position, you need to recognize that other PCs are going to need things from you, so take a moment and think about whether you want to compromise your funtime to help others make their time fun.

      10/10

It largely depends on how a game is structured but if leadership ends up gatekeepers for plot/other characters being included in the fun.. don't take the position if you aren't willing to do that.

    • RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning

The fashion system very likely would have nothing to do with the desc of the item too.. fancy descing not required if I'm reading what Apos has in mind correctly. If it's automated and just based on wearing the stuff? only takes a minute to craft a colorless "a seasilk dress" or "an umbra union suit with duskstone flap buttons". Just make the desc the same and call it good.
