It's been argued facetiously and completely seriously that Batman is the only reason his rogues gallery continues to exist. Like he's basically deliberately keeping these severely mentally ill people in an institution he knows for a fact is understaffed, with corrupt/incompetent management, because he needs to justify his own hobby. He's simply too efficient otherwise and he has a small army of proteges, the only reason crime exists at all in Gotham is a fabrication to keep one insanely wealthy man pumped to the gills with catharsis in what is essentially his own private theme park.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
Kind of amusing to me on this subject, I haven't seen it but my super-conservative and religious bro in law came back from Frozen 2 saying there was something "very weird" about it. I didn't ask him to clarify because...I usually regret asking that question, but I think it'd be funny if he thought so for the same reasons.

RE: Model Policies?
...Do they tho
Or is it just like, another thing we do because we've done it forever?
I get Pub chans, it's fun sometimes to shout out to whoever might be listening on the entire game and join in what is usually pretty chill chatter.
But I don't get OOC rooms. They're like, the Pub chan condensed down into a very tiny pond that doesn't always have oversight and people who might be inclined to be an asshole on Pub will almost certainly be an asshole in one, in my experience.
I have literally never talked to anyone who was like "you know what I like to do? Hang out in the OOC room." They just...go because it's there, or it's where many connect screens dump you.

RE: RL things I love
Kiddo got anonymous gifts for Xmas this year, they just showed up on our doorstep in big cardboard boxes with his name in sharpie. No card inside, nada. Clothes, art supplies, Legos, action figures and a plushy -- like SO MUCH stuff. And he was so, so thrilled to open all these extra presents on Xmas day, which just melts your heart cause he is a goddamn cute kid and a real sweetheart, if I say so myself.
Like my life is still a mess but damn if I didn't feel better than I have for years seeing him so excited. What a sweet thing for some random person to do, I wanna cry every time I think about it.

Honestly, not a fan of descriptive trait-based games and it'd be a deterrent.
Any time I've played them outside of comic book settings (and even inside them) there is way more buy-in required to any sense of risk or reward and players get really weird about conflict.

Thankfully, with the weighted blanket, I'm taking ambien even less frequently.
I really ought to try one, but I get so hot when I sleep that it usually wakes me up just with a regular one. Kinda worry I would be a sweaty restless mess, haha.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
This year after a change to my meds, I started to fall asleep in the middle of the day and stay asleep for hours. I hated it so much, because I always feel like my free time is a precious and very limited commodity being a single papa and so this was robbing me of entire chunks.
Changing away from the meds back to a stronger dosage of the old seemed to help a lot, but now that winter is in full force and I've built a tolerance to my sleep aid, my sleep schedule is shot to shit and Iiiiiiii'm right back to sleeping in or just being so exhausted that I have to nap to even function, which increases the depression, which increases the urge to nap...it's miserable.

Lucky me - Ambien works (though they took me off it, the bastards), and now I'm on a mix of gabapentin and something else.
Ugh. Gabapentin was what was knocking me out hard. It was wonderful for my anxiety, but holy shit did it feel like I was narcoleptic.

RE: Good TV
Good week.
Going to see Star Wars on Sunday.
I'll message you all about it on Friday.
People have been talking about this all week and it is legit sad to me that I had no idea what they meant because I have been so disappointed and disinterested in the new trilogy. I loved Star Wars as a kid and teen, but maaaaaaan did the prequels position the stake and the sequels hammer it into the heart for me.
(...That said, The Mandalorian fucking rocks.)
I'll message you, too.

@Pandora That's not exactly what I meant. I meant more the vassal talks to the liege and is like 'Hey, heads up, I'm interested in working on elevating my House' the liege would be all 'Awesome, we can deal with that, ICly, full disclosure we'd be trying to keep your vassals under our umbrella, this is something we can work out, ICly, yeah?' 'Yeah, for sure, we can see how it plays out.' et fin.
That's not how it works though. According to Apos's lore post the former liege doesn't proactively try and snipe all the vassals out from under the newly elevated house -- how would an elevated house even stake their claim to their new position if all their land was taken from them? That doesn't make sense, and would likely just be seen as trying to prevent the elevation period.
The vassals of the elevated house are simply given the option to remain with the house or swear directly to their liege's liege instead if there's some sort of extraordinarily good reason for doing so, which -- given the extreme disadvantages of being geographically separated from a liege -- is the exception, not the rule. The reassessment of fealty is way more a traditional formality than anything that is expected to actually involve a change every single time.
The only reason vassals came up as such a big deal in the case of Pravus is that their elevation to a brand-spanking-new Great House is conditional on their success in taking new land for the King, who will then lease it to them and expect them to populate it. Their vassals can't hold lands in the mainland Lyceum and the Saffron Chain, it's one or the other, so those specific vassals on the mainland are going to be in a very tight spot when it comes reassessment time. Give up everything and start from scratch, or stay with Velenosa and their traditional holdings.
