I think you'll find people who absolutely refuse to talk are a minority in the hobby with a very vocal representation here.

I'm not saying that it's wrong not to be ashamed. I just don't like the implication that people who are are weird. Humans have a lot of hangups. Frequently about sex!
This is maybe just semantic, but I didn't mean to say that people who have sexual hang-ups are weird (hello, I am a human and thus have hang-ups!), I just meant the constant over-analysing of TS itself is strange to me and maybe a bit harmful in the way some people approach it, to themselves and others.

Is it an IC romance scene, or two human beings on opposite sides of an internet connection getting each other horny?
I'm in the camp that thinks it doesn't particularly matter if it's both, as long as what's happening is comfortable for all parties involved. I've also always felt like TS was something that could be enjoyed OOC on an intellectual level (ie, "oh dang, that is spicy") and an emotional level (ie, it is very cathartic to see two characters with a lot of chemistry connecting and being intimate) without it being some weird level of self-insertion, or being odd/shameful that you're enjoying it as a person and trying to make something your writing partner also enjoys.
Being ashamed or overly worried about what it means or says about you is what is very weird to me. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I vote against Dead Wolves being Gangrel-only, but it is what it is. MAYBE ROME (where I'll pitch it now, whee)
I'll bite: why?
You could argue that it doesn't really make sense to think that Wolfbloods have always been exclusively sired by Gangrel and that those that were are the only vampires ever to think of trying to recapture that heritage, especially given the occult bent of the Crones and the Ordo Dracul, purely from a fluff perspective.

Y'know, after watching you desperately campaign for literally like years now, I will laugh my ass off if someone actually implements it and you never make one.

RE: General Video Game Thread
I'm psyched! Seemed like they'd kept development so quiet after announcing it was in the works that I was worried it had been cancelled, so even a cinematic trailer is p. thrilling!

I like the idea of becoming a not-total-monster being an almost impossible task, but the heavy emphasis here is on "almost."
ANYWAY the setting is what it is, so I'm gonna quit bitchin' and start learning about warwilfs.YAY WHEREWOOFS
I mean I don't play but...ughhh I love wherewoofs. I really ought to make one.

RE: Derbyshire Estate
@Grayson said in Derbyshire Estate:
As it was, there was absolutely nothing in the ad (or, apparently, the wiki) that said this wasn't a reflection of the Derbyshire some of us know and, er, know. If we have to explicitly ask to find out that the setting is nothing like our Derbyshire, something's gone wrong.
As per the wiki since the ad went up, directly under the Theme page:
Setting
The main focus of play is set in Derbyshire, fictitious location once on earth that has since been 'moved' into another dimension. Earth exists as it does now, current date and time. The world Derbyshire resides in is known to residents as the misty realm. It is a dimension nestled among a prominence of ley lines, allowing access to Earth as well as a myriad of other dimensions. Walking too far from Derbyshire one can walk into another dimension and become lost if they do not know the Ways.
Y'all are just bored.

RE: Games? Do they exist? Where?
Purple prosing the hell out of in-character letters has always been some of the most fun/amusing writing of all time for me tho, especially for characters who don't actually speak that way and are often involved in Dubious Affairs.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
My son has a big ol' patch of it on his foot, and a little on his back. We've been looking into treatments and stuff but most of what we find is so noncommittal on how effective it actually is, so I can definitely commiserate there. That sucks.

RE: Cyberrun
For my part, I've had an acquaintance since we were teens who was a self-indentified pedophile who struggled against it very publicly as a mental illness for most of his adult life. He's in a healthy adult relationship now, and he's successful and doing well. I'm not ashamed to say I am proud of him, even if I can't say I've always felt that way. I understand how complicated everything about the subject is.

RE: Cyberrun
@Wizz lol
Sure, I'm wrong about
I'mma stop you right there.
That's not really your goal here. Your goal, as usual, is to make this issue about yourself -- in this particular case, "I AM THE MOST NOT-A-PEDOPHILE ON THE FORUM, FITE ME."
Nobody here is on the fence about pedophilia, dude. But your ego is denser than a dying sun no matter what the topic of conversation so, again, you're missing the point by miles and it's exhausting.
Rather than join in with the much more patient souls trying to explain it to you, I'm going to encourage and challenge you to really flounce off as you've loudly stated you will be doing now. Cool off on the subject for a few days, and then come back and actually read the actual responses you've gotten, because it's clear you've been...hell, even saying you skimmed them is giving you the benefit of the doubt.
This is a very emotionally charged area of discussion for a lot of people for very good reason, but that can and does cloud judgement and comprehension at even the best of times. You will be doing yourself a favor to try and give the previous posts another pass, rather than alienating and attacking everyone else for no reason.

RE: Cyberrun
You two win. You are both 100% correct. Consider me corrected and educated. Let's leave these places alone and let them face their own risks.
...Wow, only roughly four pages in to our usual round of "Ghost doubles down, triples down, and then fucking quadruples down against all comers rather than just admit he's being wrongheaded about something."
Hmmm...

RE: Star vs Ensemble Cast - Why Theme is Vital
@Auspice said in Star vs Ensemble Cast - Why Theme is Vital:
I can take just about any Dresden files story and go onto an urban supernatural game (if we must absolutely quibble over this part; I use WoD because most urban supernatural games are WoD and it's a readily available ruleset) and play it out. Magic users? Check. Vampires? Check. Werewolves? Check. ........ etc.
I...guess? In the broadest strokes possible? But again, you're ascribing what is a staffing problem-- in this case, inattention or even apathy about being faithful to detail in order to appeal to a larger crowd-- to the settings themselves. You can't actually play a White Council story out in the Pentacle, the two organizations have different focuses, structure, reach, conflicts and goals. Magic is fundamentally different in each setting. I guess I am just not seeing your point here.

RE: Star vs Ensemble Cast - Why Theme is Vital
I remember the game you're talking about, aaaand yeah. There was definitely a "Harry Dresden with the serial numbers filed off" character, and (at least while I played) the only joinable org was explicitly his merry gang of ne'er-do-well backup dancers. There was even an actual CG rule IIRC that basically said "you can't ever be a Warden, we only have one and it's his special position that can never never be anyone else's ever" even though that wasn't technically themely even at that point in the series.
But that's pretty anecdotal, and a little weird to apply to the setting in general when that's...really been a fairly common scenario for the hobby at large -- "small group of friends run an OTT for each other, decide to open to the public but are not willing to retire their characters and broaden the focus" is just your typical Staff Sandbox, not a specifically Dresden Files problem. There's a lot of baked-in themes and fun faction conflicts for a Dresden Files game, you just need to actually run it that way.
