RE: Who are you?
WHO WHO, WHO WHO
Woke up in a SoHo doorway, a policeman knew my name- Spent roughly half my teens and twenties in the southern US, so I can say y'all and do a pretty OK accent and manage not to sound like an ahole.
- Never going back though.
- I was raised with ferrets. I LIKE THE SMELL, FUCKIN WEIRD RIGHT
- I like metal, punk, funk, folk, some rap, some electronica...I mean really you could play a mouth harp in a cave and I'd probably listen to it.
- I love, love trying new food. Bizarre Foods is like, my one reality show I love. Favorite cuisines are fairly spicy or just interesting, like Indian. "Weirdest" thing I've ever eaten was probably balut, and I felt awful about it and had to eat it with my eyes closed.
- I do have one tattoo, on my chest above my heart. It's the Deathly Hallows, all gnarly like it was made with bent sticks and thorns. I'd show you but...there's a lot of chest hair involved. I got it this year and I want more!
- I've done hallucinogens and weed, but never anything harder and never will. Hell, once was enough for acid...wasn't a bad trip but yikes, intense.
- I'm a manager at a company that operates a network that transports Medicaid/Medicare patients to their appointments.
- I was raised Mormon but became an atheist at around 20. WEIRD RIGHT
- I've had lots of pets, but the kiddo was bitten when he was four and is still really timid around animals. I love animals so we're working towards something! Dream is to ride horses with him some day.
- HOT SHOWERS 4 LYF just kidding the inevitable water wars will probably take these away from us

So I guess if you're reading this, there's a chance it could be applicable to you?You just summarized about 90% of the RP STORYTIME content here. Like, all four years of it. XD

RE: What drew you to MU*?
@arkandel said in What drew you to MU*?:
Let's test this. Let's say all of General Your's friends retired tonight; there are still MUSHes around but they're all ran and played by strangers.
This has literally been my play experience for years. I've lone wolf'd my way through it since my teens, but what keeps me coming back is how immediately friendly and warm a lot of people in the hobby tend to be given even half the chance. It's awesome.
As for what drew me, I read LoTR when I was very very young and it impressed on me just a crazy-silly love of storytelling. I was a huge comics nerd when I was a kid and young teen, and while I honestly don't remember how I found MU*s, the chance to not only play but play with my favorite super heroes was just like...a dream come true. I've come and gone from it ever since but yeah, I think I'll keep coming back as long as the medium exists!

But please don't underestimate the value of being able to speak freely. I don't mean it for Arx but in general. While shitposts and unprovoked personal attacks are a sad consequence of it, there's a big upside of both being able to say what you want without looking over your shoulder and reading what people outside of your personal circle think of your grand plans.
I'm not, for sure. My critique of the forum is more in line with @Roz's, I just honestly don't think we're the place for big, constructive, positive discussion anymore. I used to really want to lean into that hardcore here myself, especially right after WORA closed, and I struggled with how people (including myself, the more time I worried about it and let my frustration grow and let it become a personal channel for venting about things like everyone else) made it very clear that that's not what the board's primary purpose is. I've made my personal peace with it and for what it's worth maaaaaan it's fine, this place can be that place!
@roz said in Constructive (keyword) Criticism of Arx Systems:
For the record, I don't think that staff is planning on pulling out from ALL THE ARX THREADS here or something. Just -- as @Arkandel said, MSB is not well-equipped for this kind of really dense system discussion, and I know it was getting pretty discouraging for staff just because of the way MSB discussions can get stuck on one particular issue and circle around it forever and not have a bigger picture to compare it to. There's the publicly accessible Github now, and yeah you'll have to make an account to chat there, but it provides a much better venue for being able to get into specifics, to have different issue threads on different topics and ideas and projects, etc.
Sorry if I made it sound like I was saying YAY THEY'RE GONE, that def wasn't my intention either. I get that they're still here, I just think less professional involvement (or whatever you want to call it, being here specifically as Arx staff and not just as themselves) by whatever degree is a positive, in my very personal and obviously very humble opinion I think they have been here a little too strongly lately specifically as staff responding to critical blahs about the game, that's all. That just takes a toll, we all know that.

RE: Constructive (keyword) Criticism of Arx Systems
Um, I'm still here too, there's obviously something about it I enjoy, hahaha. Y'all are a bunch of incredibly witty, smart peeps and I have had a lot of fun participating in game discussions and GIF-offs and, yeah, even bitching.
I just mean, IMHO, the way Arx staff were interfacing with the forum as staff didn't seem to be doing them any favors and I think it's a really good decision.
EDIT: Just to be clear, I changed "interacting with" to "interfacing with." I don't mean to say I think staff were acting poorly here, I mean I just don't think it was a great thing how involved they were, because we can be a p mean forum and we are ALL like so fucking strongly opinionated, in a way that can sometimes drown out or delegitimize actual solid feedback, haha.

RE: Midnight MUSH
Dunno if it really needed to be said at this point, but I'm shelving this for I'm not sure how long. I was having a ton of fun writing theme files and playing with FATE but I really haven't had the exposure to the hobby I feel like I need to actually run a game in a long time.
Hopefully I can come back to this some day, I am still super fond of the idea.

So thanks for the idea of this thread, but we get goodfeedback talking to players directly and aren't really getting the kind of suggestions we'd hope for. If you have feedback, take it through the official channels in game or on github, we are abandoning this MSB-staff-interfacing to focus on what we think is important, and fun.
Back to your regularly scheduled posting.
Honestly, can I just say, seriously bravo?
One of my personal biggest peeves about the Way Things Are on Arx that I didn't feel like voicing because it was a) a bit hypocritical and b) didn't really seem like it would be a very positive conversation was how much time staff was spending on MSB and engaging here, especially with the Hogpit. It just hasn't seemed like a very healthy/beneficial thing either on a personal level or gamerunner level, because TBH Musoapbox is pretty toxic a lot of the time. That's just facts.
Nobody asked for or even maybe particularly cares about my opinion but damn, thank you for winning back a lot of personal goodwill with this move.

That said, i think this is the wrong thread, @Arkandel.
Maybe move it to the actual movies/tv thread instyead of this very old Mash-Ups thread(?)
.................GODDAMNIT @Coin XD
I wasn't gonna say anything
And just let this slowly become the movie thread
And then three years later I'd be like HAHA GOTCHA

RE: Automated Adventure System
If you look back at a lot of the inspiration for those kinds of items, like LOTR, the actual effects of a lot of the magic rings were actually very subtle. Gandalf didn't particularly find the One Ring all that unusual, but when Tolkien went into the lore of the greater rings most of them did just like, basically boost charisma and slow down aging and other things that weren't obviously supernatural.
It's just a thought!

Just personal preference, but the classics never die!! Haha, either way, sounds really cool!

RE: Automated Adventure System
@sparks said in Automated Adventure System:
It will depend. My current intention is that cost is related to Shardhaven difficulty level and how many people you take. Take 4 people to a lower difficulty Shardhaven and you can probably scrape together the funds. Take a bigger party, or go to a more difficult Shardhaven, and the cost goes up. If you want to outfit a large party to go to a high-level Shardhaven, some fundraising RP to find a wealthy backer might be necessary.
That it will scale like that on multiple factors is awesome and I think that is a really great idea. I'm excited to try this!!

Treasures (Trinkets and Weapons)
These are also randomly generated from what are called 'loot fragments'; a list of adjectives ('shining', 'gleaming', 'sinister', etc.), a list of weapon decorations, a list of item types, and so on.
A trinket might be an {adjective} {material} {item}, like a 'gleaming copper lantern' or a 'sinister orichalcum lyre'. (These items will actually figure into the magic system eventually, as they'll be able to be broken down for magic power to use in rituals.)I know this question figures p. heavily into the magic system you've mentioned already, but will trinkets include things like magical rings, arm bands, necklaces, amulets, broaches, nipple piercings etc.????

Wrapping a shardhaven journey into an 'expedition' which you need to actually ICly fund before you can embark on your adventure, and which will track what sort of things you found.
This is really cool, but the one thing I'm curious about is how this part will translate for commoners. Does this mean commoner characters will need to find wealthy patrons to fund any expeditions, or are they the kind of funds a small group of not particularly wealthy individuals could scrape together quickly?

RE: Halp Me @ Arx
I kinda wish Arx com channels had custom cycling titles because putting up verses from that song and then slowly changing them over time is basically the only legit use for such a system
