    • RE: Unlikeable, incompetent, and inactive: Can these characters work in an MU?

In my personal experience, the answer can be Yes to all of them. I have played more than my share of cranky curmudgeons that stay at home when the Hero's are getting their armor dented. Or those that go on (or are forced on (damned Ghoul lyfe)) adventures but are just THE WORST at things. I mean right now I'm planning a character that is just going to be awful at what he is 'supposed' to do.

As mentioned above, I think it comes down to portrayal and self awareness. You still have to be entertaining. It has to be IC, usually with a lot of snerking and giggling ooc.

@macha I haven't gotten texts, just calls and people showing up at my door. Thankfully I mailed in my vote earlier so the conversation usually goes like so: Hi, are you voting? Yes I am and i have already mailed in my ballot. Okay have a good day sir!

@Aria Okay first of all that bowtie is amazing and i need it.

Secondly, I just dont comprehend people just... abandoning their animals. Like wtf, too much trouble? I have cancelled vacations rather than leave my Lily alone. Some people just dont deserve pets.

@tinuviel If Cyberpunk 2077 comes out first, Miami will never open. So, before then.

    • RE: Do you read the book(s)?

@autumn Happened on FC too in changeling, we had a couple people over the years just sorta ride the channels an basically try to have the sphere read the whole book to them. Like every aspect of the game. And I'm not saying 'asking questions on channel is bad' but after a certain point like, go read man.

@jenny I really wish we could give a clearer answer, but we are very gun-shy about setting dates at this time. Less than 6 months? Hopefully a lot less.

When i run scenes, the most I want/expect is for people to read about what is on their sheet/what they are trying to do.

    • RE: Social Stats in the World of Darkness

@sockmonkey said in Social Stats in the World of Darkness:

      @faraday

Some people really enjoy rolling up characters who are perfect at everything and cannot be manipulated/persuaded/intimidated/etc. And that's fine. If that's their version of fun, then..

I would also say to that, there are stats that cover that. Resolve, Composure, Rigid mask, Indomitable... So if you wanna be totally blase, i would expect people to have the stats that represent that.

    • RE: Social Stats in the World of Darkness

My social group in MUing is pretty small these days, but we roll social stuff all the time. Mostly because we're all a bunch of terrible people who lie constantly. heck i even got a subterfuge spec for dealing with two specific people because it was such a web of lies and manipulations. I've used social dice for 'taking off my shirt deliberately sexily' and gotten an exceptional success, and the response was 'subtle checking out and side eyeing' and not 'forced into humping'. But I mean there's a level of trust and OOC mocking our own PCs and cackling at the terrible misfortunes. Which isnt there when strangers are involved.

So this sounds cool as hell. If every ounce of my creative energy was not developing another game, I would be tempted. But this seems rad.

Also wanna note that we seem to be focusing on persuasion and Intimidation.

Will this 'PC's are Immune to social rolls Include...

Empathy rolls to get better insight, Subterfuge rolls to shield emotions or pick up on lies, or Expression to be a dramatic bitch.

These are ALL social dice pools.

@faraday I am not disagreeing with that? Game Runners should absolutely set boundaries and what should and should not be possible.

What i object to is the idea that you remove them entirely because people don't wanna 'lose agency' or whatever.

    • RE: Social Stats in the World of Darkness

@faraday That is NOT what I said, so please do not put words in my mouth.

It's not weather you 'like' them or not. Social Rolls are part of the game as written. People who ignore the results of dice rolls are, by definition, cheating. As game runners we can mitigate that and set boundaries (No you are not so hot you change someone's sexual orientation, nor can intimidate someone into shooting themselves).

But fine, lets argue that 'Hur durr no matter what you roll Imma react with violence. <insert pseudoscience argument about fight or flight>'

Suggestion: Yes, Player A rolled 5 successes against/over Player B's resistance to back down. By Definition Player A has intimidated Player B , that should not be in question. Player B wants to take their shot at Player A anyhow? Okay. Penalize that attack roll by Player A's successes. This represents the opponent being terrified but lashing out regardless, albeit in a fight/flight panicked state.

    • RE: Social Stats in the World of Darkness

      Clarify for me:
The opening of this thread says 'social stats'

Some of the reply's are talking about powers, like Majesty and Dominate

I am generally against all of this, it seems that the response to people not cooperating with stats shouldn't be to just remove those stats.

Clearly Persuasion shouldn't be used to force seduce people that arent interested. Sure you could get a good roll and i could be like 'yup, my loins are fired up but I am making a conscious decision not to fuck you' But that's generally because that kinda shit is skeevy on an ooc level

But frankly, people get convinced to do things against their better nature all the time. Yes even harry Dresden could be intimidated into backing down with the right leverage. Millions and Millions of People are convinced to vote against thier best interests all the time.

No, Social Stats aren't 'magic powers' but people who lose dice challenges (Example: Intimidation to get somone to back down from a fight.) and then do whatever they want anyhow are called assholes and cheaters.

I dont think the solution should be that every PC is suddenly immune to 1/3 of every PC's sheet.

Also Re: Powers Literally almost half of changelings magic is about emotions and social stuff.
