If you want a bit of a challenge for your palate, it's hard to go wrong with 五粮液/Wuliangye. The stuff I linked to (and depict below) is at the leading edge of their non-speciality line: 68%/136 proof of so-called "thick fragrance" 白酒/baijiu. If you want to give this a try, I do strongly recommend that you start with the weaker stuff (say around 45%/90 proof) because, while the higher-alcohol stuff has also a higher concentration of the flavours that make it well-rounded and tasty, the unexpected burn of 68% alcohol will be a distraction if you're unused to it. The 45% stuff is just fine. It's just not sublime like the really good stuff.

Ironically, 五粮液/Wuliangye is not well-known outside of China despite it being China's top brand. (The internationally-known 茅台/Moutai is a fairly distant second place.) The irony lies in the fact that "thick fragrance" hooch is far more palatable to the western palate than is the "sauce fragrance" of the more internationally-known brands. So people trying out Chinese liquors are trying them out with the style that is most likely to make them recoil in horror at the flavour…

While we're all bruising our brains to stop the damage from reading @Jaunt's ravings, has anybody here ever tried Tatratea's liqeurs? I can get them here, but they're really expensive, so I'm not really willing to take the plunge unless I get some good reviews. I'm most interested in these ones:

Peach and White Tea (42%/84 proof)

Original Tea Liqeur (52%/104 proof)

Forest Fruit (62%/124 proof)

The other ones may be of interest too, but those aer the three I'm most interested in. Some of the questions I have are:

• How much of the actual tea flavour shines through in these? And here I mean the full complex of tea flavours, not just the bitter quantities. If I want stomach bitters I can drink Jägermeister.
• How much flavour is lost to the alcohol burn? For example, that mare's milk hooch I linked earlier I originally got in a 38%abv version, then the 52%. I was afraid the parts that made it taste awesome would be overshadowed by the alcohol burn, but thankfully I was wrong. The awesome parts got more concentrated. Is it the same for the Tatratea line?

And the added bonus! You get to interact with used car salesmen, yapping shih-tzus and failed bad cops while you're at it! How could anybody not want to go to OR!?

While we're sharing booze, I was absolutely delighted to find that I can pick up all my old favourites here now. I practically grew up on this stuff:

I think you're dead on. Personally, as discussed in private, I agree that @Jeshin is not a bad guy. I think he's involved in sales or advertising IRL and he has the blind spot that a lot of hard core sales/advertising types have about how grating and annoying their sales persona is. It's why I've tagged him with the (relatively) nice "Used Car Salesman-in-Chief" title. The other two are assholes.
