To me the code base issue is not really a culture one but a cost one for me as an end user.
For me the main draw is the RP and the various bells and whistles don't matter, once a game can handle +roll <stat> and show me the result I am good with the code support. So games that I have to learn a different command structure for induce a cost (the time spent learning) with no corresponding benefit since they do not add to the main draw.
Back in the dark ages I learned the commands to play on MUSHes and at this point that is what I stick with. This is not to say anything against other code platforms but I am not going to bother to learn a new structure until there are not viable options with the old one. I am the same way with video games as well. I will be loyal to the playstation line for as long as it exists because that the the controller I know and use without thought where hand me a x-box controller and say his the A button or whatever a button on it might be called and I look at the thing confused trying to find the correct button.

Another thought,l one geared towards the 'automated' side of the discussion...

A Waterdeep/Undermountain game. Undermountain gives you 20+ levels of dungeon hack & slash, along with an in-lore reason for rooms to 'respawn' (Halaster's portals and summonings). So, set the dungeon rooms to randomly generate appropriate encounters & treasure for the dungeon level, then respawn after a certain amount of time has passed since a group cleared the room.

Similarly, IIRC, there's plenty of random encounter tables from the various Waterdeep supplements & boxed sets for 'above ground' action. And you can also program random encounters in buildings for players that want to do exploring & thieving by night, with respawns of encounters & treasures like with the dungeon rooms. Plenty of material also for Staff to create and run their own events.

If that's your POV then hey - that's cool. I'm not saying you (or they) are wrong to spend your time elsewhere.

But for me? I don't give a crap if my character has a Big Hero Moment or not. I mean, sure, it's kinda neat when it happens but it doesn't drive my RP. I had immense fun being the lone Grounder PC in the 20-person scene in 100, making wisecracks to a NPC I was emitting. It's roleplay. It's a story. I didn't feel like the "third extra on the left" even though my character didn't really accomplish anything, ended up on the losing side, and got shot in the head and mostly incapacitated by some random NPC extra.

Different people like different things. All I'm saying is when you have a significant number of people feeling like "I've got a 66% chance of wasting my time if I don't get to do something awesome", you've got a serious logistical problem that I don't think is solvable.

@thatguythere I agree with you for the most part. Fantasy RPG's are the last bastion of Class/Level design that I participate in. I'll still look at other genres of games with systems like that, but odds are I won't buy or play them.

And yes, the TORG revival was exceptionally well done. They fixed several issues in the original game system and made several overall improvements to the system and game world. Check it out when the books go on sale in physical stores. Or, the next Kickstarter (beginning in a few days) is supposed to have the big 'Cargo Crate' option and Core Books, Dice, Cards, etc., available in the BackerKit.

Marvel Heroic, for sure. The biggest trick will be establishing a means of semi-consistent CG constraints just so you don't have people wanting to put a d10 or d12 in everything.

The Valiant RPG kind of has a way to do that, but I'm not sure how easily it could be translated to the MH system.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. You can even create additional NPC types beyond goon/henchman/miniboss/boss if you want to have more fine-tuned pre-set NPC types.

I used saved NPCs pretty regularly in the past edition, but I just figured I was a nutter, like usual. With Ares, we've used the ability to create additional NPC levels to provide set stats for various critters and beasties on T8S, without having to set them individually or anything like that. It's quite handy.

My first example of GM Fiat came from before what I knew what the word fiat meant. It was in I think 4th grade we had just picked up the Basic Set of Dungeons and Dragons. (Old red Box set) In the first session one of the characters wanted to punch an NPC, no where in those rules is there any word about hand to hand combat so the GM at the time had to make something up.

@nemesis Your post was about social health tracks, where several prior posts were discussing those in relation to how FATE uses them (including the person you were responding to). Shockingly, context is a thing.

The rest of your post is a strange rant about your RP resume and a ridiculous hypothetical system no one has suggested. Just like combat doesn't need a hitloc for every blood vessel, you can abstract social stuff down considerably as well.
