This is a thread to share those celebrities who fail at being decent human beings. If youa re the type to justify (or even have) idols in any part of the entertainment industry, this is likely not the thread for you. I am going to kick it off with today's latest, but feel free to scroll the fuck back in the world's timeline and add people regardless of when, with at least one link.

This is not a thread to discuss whether it's okay to continue consuming the products made by these people or not; it's probably also not the place to defend them. This is just to inform.

Nobuhiro Watsuki (creator of Rurouni Kenshin).

How about all entertainment stars, actors and actresses from the get-go? I have no use for the rich and famous, at all. I give zero fucks about tabloid entertainews, and find that entire industry disgusting. Also, politicians - giving less than one fuck here, too.

I mean, since your OP basically makes it purely opinion-based, as you haven't described what "fail[ing] at being [a] decent human [being]" means.

I mean, I find that paying attention to context helps, but if you already damn everyone (which is perfectly valid) I don't think the thread's for you. [shrug]

Old news but I never bought another of his books after discovering just how big a bigot (among other things) Orson Scott Card is.

Al Franken. This is a heartbreaker for me.

Yeah, it ruined his books for me too. Not as much for the moral factor (some terrible people create great artistic works, and not just in literature) but because now when I re-read Ender's Game I start wondering about the author's agenda when I should be seeing characters' points of view. It just wrecks the whole thing.

You know what bugs me about Louis CK? For starters that he knew better - one of my favorite bits ever was one about rape, dammit.

But the other thing is... he's a really good writer, and his apology was pretty accurate and spot on, so I don't know how much of it is him and how much it's him trying to salvage his career. Other celebrities have PR teams, but the difference between some MBA drone and a top-notch writer is immense.

@arkandel It would be a decent apology/taking ownership statement IF.

IF he hadn't been denying it for years.

IF He hadn't pretended the women accusing him of this shit were lying. FOR YEARS. I'm sorry, but I can't, and it breaks my heart because he is legit my favorite comedian of all time. But fuck you, Louis. It doesn't take any bravery at all to 'admit' something when you finally have no choice, because for the first time in our lousy, miserable history, people are starting to actually maybe sort of believe women.

He could've used a better PR team to stop repeatedly talking about how much the women admired him.

Franken and Takei just about did it for me. If it's ever revealed that Tom Hanks groped someone's ass, I'm out.

My understanding is nothing's been proven and Takei has vehemently denied it. I still expect to see more than an accusation before I cross someone off my list.

I'm going to take the unpopular opinion here.

Whatever happened to scale or scope? What about a person's reaction? What about what's been alleged precisely?

C'mon. Let's just take a moment to distinguish and not lump everyone together.

Let's start with Al Franken. First, he admitted it happened. Second, he requested an ethics investigation. Finally, and most importantly, he acknowledged that what he did was wrong. To-wit: (1) forcefully making out with a woman against her will during a rehearsal; and (2) taking an awful, awful picture.

Let's go in the other direction for a moment to Bill Cosby. First, he admitted nothing, even though he testified to doing so in a deposition. Second, he continues to deny wrong-doing to this day. Finally, and damningly, he is alleged to have drugged women and have sex with them while they were knocked out over a period of decades.

I want to be clear: I don't condone either person's behavior. But I think it is also clear: these are not the same levels of wrongdoing.

This is a hot topic for me because a lot of my political friends are lumping everyone together, while some of us "moderates" are saying what Jules said in Pulp Fiction. What Franken did, relative to Cosby, ain't the same sport.

“It is better to live doing the things that you like. It is foolish to live within this dream of a world seeing unpleasantness and doing only things that you do not like.” -- Yamamoto Tsunetomo.

Absolutely. But what (I think) we're discussing here is whther a celebrity's image in our eyes is irrevocably scarred by something they did.

So sure, what Cosby did is way worse, and there should be a sense of scale at least legally, but when it comes to me admiring someone it's not like I'll ever go "well, he only raped one person". You know what I mean? The bar was set pretty high.
