DC : Gods and Monsters MUX

I did my +request. I'm like you, there's some media spinning together in my head (Smallville-inspired teen adventures rather than Superboy; StAS/JL/JLU-inspired 'world of cardboard, constantly suppressing his powers' Superman; everyman Christopher Reeve-inspired Clark Kent angle) since I don't religiously follow comics.

I don't religiously follow them, either. I generally find a character I like and learn a lot about them. And I think a lot of us are like that!
Thus far no one on the game has been a RAR OMG HOW DARE YOU NOT KNOW- etc. type. There's def. people who are savants, but they've been cool/helpful.
-
@auspice
Oh yeah, I wasn't expecting that. But you never know. Plus it's weird apping on a game where I can't just go 'Oh, WORD VOMIT STUFF ABOUT GAME'.Now to just get pitch and stuff written, and some coordination with some people for backstory stuff.

RAR OMG HOW DARE YOU NOT KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT COMICS @Bobotron
I'm Carmine Falcone, and I approve this message.

Except this guy. He's a dick. >.>

Just wanted to share!
The following characters just opened (either idled out / didn't finish their app). None ever hit the grid that I'm aware of, so they're basically a clean slate.Ravager
Batgirl
Deathstroke*
Joker
Katana*Deathstroke is actually restricted to current players as he's tied into the game's metaplot, so they want someone that's proven themselves to be proactive.

Ravager
There's transformers?
edit: oh nvm, it's Ravage I'm thinking of. Haha.
-
Srsly someone needs to app Batgirl. I'm kinda super sad we don't have one.

I got Clark approved. He's a mish-mash of Smallville for teen years, StAS for 'world of cardboard' Superman and comics. There is also a Lois apping too, or at least planning to. I'm going to be getting started really tomorrow (have some stuff going on tonight), but I'd love to see some more Metropolis characters! Metallo, Parasite, Toyman, Lana Lang, Chloe Sullivan, Jimmy Olsen...

Lois is approved!

Selina Kyle just opened. C'mon, you know you wanna play Catwoman.
-
Come play with us people.... FOREVER
-
I don't wanna play Selina. I wanna play Donna Thunder.
-
@misadventure I don't want to play an FC.
-
@lithium Oh come on you don't LOVE the idea of being forced to conform exclusively to existing characters from DC comics only? Why would anyone ever want to play a character they themselves designed on a game?

Because that's what the game is about. It's like asking "why being forced to conform exclusively to one sphere in WoD?". Because that's the MU*.

@mr-johnson I do not get the mentality some folk have about superhero games being required to cater to OCs. While I have my own, personal, problems with the staff of this game that prevents me from ever playing there their stance on FCs is not part of that. I can see being disappointed in that decision and making your own decision not to play there as a result. I can see letting staff know that you'd be all for playing there if they did allow OCs. But to have a little tantrum mocking them for not allowing OCs? Seems a bit juvenile to me.
-
@zombiegenesis I think, at least for most posting not being for 'Canon' characters is more about how subjective it is to 'play the character right's since people absolutely read how these super heroes should be differently. Playing a favorite character can also ruin it for them. It is also not fun to be told 'that is not how x person should be played!' I also have not seen anyone expecting to be 'catered too' just be given the option to make their own thing. I also have not seen people demanding to be allowed to make something original just, more or less people going 'It sounds interesting but...' Hey, I could be reading the intent people have wrong though.
Except @Mr-Johnson His comment was pretty on the less kind side. Whether it was sarcasm or not.
-
My comment was pretty much directed solely to @Mr-Johnson and his comment here. However, similar topics have come up in the past and when someone says an FC game is going to be FC only some people get nasty and I just don't get it.
And while I can see your points, all of which are valid reasons for someone to not want to play on an FC game, expecting to be given the option to make your own thing on an FC game is what I consider wanting to be catered to.
Different strokes for different folks though.

There's no doubt one of the hardest things about comics MU* is playing canon characters on them since not only are their players somehow supposed to be continuity experts who get derided if they're not familiar with everything that's happened in the last 20 years, but they also have to fit everyone else's criteria for characters who, let's be honest here, aren't exactly written consistently by all those different writers over that same amount of time.
But even so, it's a game's choice to run the kind of MUSH they want. There's nothing wrong with that. A game can't be all things to all people, or cater to everyone's tastes, and it's quite unreasonable to hold them accountable when they don't try to do that.
This sounds like a deliberate creative decision and not a bait and switch. They're saying "guys, we're not gonna have OCs". Okay, well, if someone wants to play an OC they can do it on another game, what's the issue?
